Kindle Fire HD bricked ? - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I have rooted a Kindle Fire HD 7" (2012) and installed CyanogenMod (cm-12.1-20151211-NIGHTLY-tate.zip) with TWRP. All was ok.
After 5 days of normal use, for cleaning the Kindle, I made a reset by Android classical option, in settings. And the Kindle won't restart !
In starting, the "Kindle Fire" shows in orange.
Few seconds later, the "Kindle Fire" shows in blue.
Few seconds later, a blue screen called "Teamwin" shows and hide approximately each 2 seconds.
So, I think my Kindle is bricked but perhaps have you got a solution ?
Thanks.
PS : sorry for my english, I am a french user.

So, I used the Kindle Fire HD recovery tool (found in this forum) for try booting with first option (Restore-Factory Rooted with SuperSU.apk). The process is done it correctly, the files copied. In the center of the screen, a little logo "fastboot" show. I thinked it's good, but after reboot, the Kindle loop now with the original logo orange "kindle fire" and won't starting. What's the matter ?

You need to do recovery and boot as well. I would also wipe data

OK, but I don't know how to do. I have tryed these commands (with the drivers) :
Code:
adb push fbmode /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/fbmode
adb shell /data/local/tmp/fbmode
adb reboot
But not recognition of the device...

News.
I made a DIY factory cable and I succeeded in restarting the tablet. I have re-rooted it, reinstalled CyanogenMod and she works perfectly. However, after the installation, I realized that I did not have access anymore to the root (in Android setup, the root access is even so selected). I tried of the re-rooting with Restore_by_Bin4ry but unsuccessfully.

You have to change Root Access to "Disabled" in developer options, and then toggle it back to "Apps and ADB". Once you do that, root works flawlessly.

I had already tried 3 root options but that does not work. Re-rooting with Restore_by_Bin4ry works badly : the Kindle restart 2 times instead 3 until the end of process.
My CyanogenMod version : cm-12.1-20151216-NIGHTLY-tate

That's odd - try downloading and flashing SuperSU.

Ok, it's done and it's works !
I didn't know that it was necessary to proceed at the installation (flashing) by boot on TWRP Recovery and I found the procedure
here.
Thanks.

Same situation as you were last month - please help
Hi Enabran,
I am in the same situation with my Kindle Fire HD7 (tate).
Could you please point me to the steps you followed? I do not have a fastboot cable yet, but will get one shortly. Thanks in advance.

dyg

First, download and unzip the KFHD_SRT_v1.3.5- 7.3.0 found here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254
- Double clic on SR Tool.bat
- Connect the Kindle with factory cable
- Select option 1 and hit Enter
- Wait during restore (no ETA display)..........
- When done, select option 6 for reboot the Kindle.
When reboot, if it's ok :
• Logo Kindle Fire orange
• Logo Kindle Fire blue
• TWRP interface displayed
• Reinstall CyanogenMod
When reboot, if troubleshooting, TWRP don't show. Well :
• Close the Kindle in press a few seconds the power button and restart. A amazing "listing" show, with error messages and only 2 options.
• With the + and - buttons, select the original Amazon Android restore (I forgot the exactly label) and press one time the power button for validate. Wait during restore..........
After, follow this video for re-rooting, flashing and reinstall CyanogenMod : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVuvR-hHOLE
So, I hope you will to know my english language.

Thank you for the detailed reply...
Sorry for the late reply, Enabran. Your English is very good, and is way better than my French
I have not been able to attempt to do this yet because I have not yet got the fastboot cable that I ordered from ebay yet.
I will attempt to do this this coming week. Your instructions are very concise and clear.
Which version of cynogenmod do you recommend? Could you post the link/instructions to get the cyanogenmod version that you have on your kindle?
Thanks again,
dyg

My version is : cm-12.1-20151216-NIGHTLY-tate.zip
The Kindle Fire HD 7" 2012 is called "tate"
The link : http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=tate
I'm not an expert and I just taken the lasted "nightly" version when I had rooted the device.

Note : since the root and the flash, it's the day and the night compares with Android Amazon Stock. The Kindle goes fast...

Couple more questions
Hi Enabran,
Thanks for the quick replies.
Yes, I had it working on the cynagenmod and noticed it to be faster than my iPad Air in loading webpages and such.
I am in this state because I installed a nightly that then caused issues with the google services; which then resulted in me not thinking through properly and doing a reset via settings and thus brought me to this state.
I got my cable yesterday and was wondering if you could help me with a couple of questions:
1) My tate was running 7.5 if I remember correctly, am I still okay to follow the steps you detailed above?
2) I am not a windows user, but have an old machine running Windows 7 Enterprise (64 bit) - when I tried to follow the steps you mentioned, I am getting a message saying "fastboot is not a recognized internal or external command" - did you run into that problem?
Thanks again for your help - I sincerely appreciate it.
Cheers,
dyg

1) So, I think yes. The different stages are the sames.
2) Did you plug the cable before execute SR_Tool.bat or after ? Try before and after but in the 2 options, plug the factory cable in tablet before in PC. See too this topic :

Now, my main tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 in 9.6". It's faster than Kindle. Fortunately moreover because with its price and its technical characteristics, that would be unfortunate.

hi Enabran,
thanks
I have gotten past the fastboot is not a valid internal or external command error - thanks for sharing the link. Additionally I had to reinstall the Kindle ADB drivers.
I ran the batch file and here's the log:
>>
sending 'system' (907264 KB)...
OKAY [312.221s]
writing 'system'...
OKAY [ 72.881s]
finished. total time: 385.167s
Welcome Back
Press any key to continue . . .
<<
For rebooting, should I use the non-factory cable? Because when I try to reboot with the factory cable, it shows the Kindle logo for a brief moment and shows the fastboot logo like before.
Please do reply when you have a few minutes - thanks again.
Cheers,
dyg

thanks @monster1612
I had problems with the reboot and ended up resolving this by using option 4 & then 3. ps that this did not work initially and I downloaded 7.4.8 from the thread that @Enabran mentioned to get this to work.
I have now unbricked my kindle, and plan to wrap up the rest of the stuff later this week.
thanks again for keeping an eye on this thread and helping out @Enabran and @monster1612.
Cheers!

Download the KFHD SRTool from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254
Don't worry you shouldn't need a factory cable. There is another way to enable fastboot.
Power off your device and unhook from the computer.
Unzip the tool and run SR Tool
Choose option 1 or 2
It should say [waiting for device], at this point plug in the device. It should automatically start to boot (if not hit the power button) then go to a screen that says Fastboot Kindle Fire and the tool should start sending the image. This is going to reflash the system image. Be patient it can take awhile to finish. More than likely it is what is causing the problem depending on what you did to cause it. If some applications you downloaded are causing problems I would recommend erasing cache and userdata after the script completes.
To get out of fastboot hold down the power button for 10-20 seconds
Let me know if this works as I have not tried to enable fastboot this way on the HD7. Should work though, it does on the HD8.9 and the original.

Did it go straight to that screen or did the Kindle Fire logo appear first? Like it was trying to boot but then went to that screen. Did you try selecting an option? Did the command prompt change? sorry for all the questions just trying to get a feel for what exactly is happening?

Yeah I just had someone also test that method and it does not work on the 7" hd models, sucks!
To answer your question about factory cable,
Yes it is, and its really easy if you have a soldering iron(don't really need it but helps) and are handy. Basically a usb cable has five leads but only uses four of them. You have to make a jumper with a 1k resistor(thats what is recommended) from that fifth lead to the power(red) lead. Pretty easy.
Here's a link with more details and there is a post by someone in there who sells them, cheap at that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392693

First of all not to be an ass but why would you do this? First the kindle fire utility is for the first gen KF. Second how could you not have seen all the news and articles talking about the bootloader on these devices being locked down. It's probably one of the most talked about aspects about this device right now. What has happened is by trying to load fire fire fire, which is a custom bootloader for first gen, you have flashed over the original bootloader and hopefully not but possibly bricked your device permanently. If you can manage to get it back into fastboot I can send you a backup of the bootloader partition you can reflash. PM me and i'll walk you through it.

I Think I Hard-Bricked my Kindle Fire HD 7"

Help! I successfully rooted my Kindle Fire HD 7" following your tutorial "[ROOT][HOW TO] Root the Kindle Fire HD and 2 with Windows - Noob (Simple) Version", and then installed Google Plays etc. following "[ROOT][HOW TO] Install Google Play Store Noob (Simple) Version". I then got to the "[How to] Install Go Launcher EX and HD Noob (Simple) Version" tutorial, and everything went down hill from here.
After following the instructions of tutorial 3, and error message popped on my screen saying that "October has Stopped" and my device froze. I held down the power button, but my device wouldn't boot up - instead it went to a screen with a "Red Warning Triangle". I tried everything from this screen to reboot/reboot my device, all to no avail. Eventually the battery died.
I was able to my Kindle Charged again using the wall charger. However, when plugging into my computer via USB, it doesn't appear on my list of devices. Thus, tools such as KF First Aide are of no help; they cant't communicate with my device, and get stuck on the "<waiting for device>" message.
Any advice?
Can I fix this? How Is my Kindle Fird HD 7" dead forever?

Yes you can fix it,In Fact, You need to have done a lot worse than that to completely fry your kindle, Don't worry, But you will need a factory cable now, Do you have one?
If you don't you can either
A) Order one from SkOrPn
B)Make one yourself, It's easy if you know how to solder
Once you acquire i'll tell you how to completely restore your kindle!
Yes he is right. You can order a factory cable from prokennexusa by PM.

The simplest tool that can restore your kindle would be
KFHD System.img Restore Tool KFHD SRT
All you need to do is download this tool
KFHD_SRT_v1.2.3- 7.2.3
This is a large download, System images are ~600Mb
Originial Thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254
Open SR Tool.bat
choose option 1
Or option 2 if you would like to have Go launcher or Apex launcher installed along with it, And google play store!
The tool will send the system image to your kindle, This will take about 7 minutes
Next, you should choose option 3 to wipe cache and userdata, This is recommended but not required, You will lose any files you transferred to your kindle, You don't need to do this if you want to keep your files!
If you need help just ask

I wanted to update everyone on my situation. I followed the threads advice - and it worked!
Specifically:
1. I ordered a factory cable from SkOrPn - got it in 3 days after placing order (shibby!).
2. I charged my device by plugging it into wall charger.
3. I installed the Kindle Fire ADB drivers on my compter - directions and links can be found on the thread [ROOT][HOW TO] Root the Kindle Fire HD and 2 with Windows - Noob (Simple) Version
4. I installed the toolbox KFHD_SRT_v1.2.3- 7.2.3 - from the thread KFHD System.img Restore Tool KFHD SRT
5. I plugged my device into PC USB port using the factory cable - it immediately went into fastboot.
6. I used KFHD_SRT_v1.2.3- 7.2.3 from my pc (SR Tool.bat), followed the instructions, and presto.

How long did it take your kindle to charge? When I plug mine in the wall charger it only turns on for like 5 seconds and that's about it? Also did you use the factory cable to charge or the usb cable that came with the Kindle?
bricked .. red screen
I was able to root my KFHD7 with Root_with_Restore and then Qemu .. rooting seemed to work fine.
I then tried to use Fire Flash app to load Hashcode's freedom boot image and TWRP recovery image.. clicked the flash button, it rebooted to a red screen.
I made myself a fastboot cable, when I plug it in, I see the Fastboot logo on the kindle, but my PC never detects the device.
Not sure where to go from here.
I've downloaded and tried KF2_SRT tool and no go. Also downloaded and tried KFFirstAide .. same deal.
All tools stay on <waiting for device>
remove factory cable after it is in fastboot

So, basically.
1) I rooted
2) got google play
3) tried to get twrp with fire flash, and this is where i screwed up
Insted of using hashcode's twrp img i used the actualy twrp (blaze) img. so im in this constant reboot loop thing.
So i got a factory cable and I am in flashboot. I got KFHD recovery tool 1.3.5 and when i click option 1, it says <waiting for device>.
I think this is due to the fact that my drivers are not installed correctly, so i tried to reinstall drivers but it just doesnt seem to be working. My thoughts are, If i can just get my computer to recognize the device we might be ok. but i cant seem to make it do that.

KFHD7 turns off after 5 seconds
So I've basically followed all steps here and in numerous other threads, but one problem still persists: the Kindle Fire HD 7 turns off after 5 seconds. If I press the power button, nothing happens. If I plug it into a charger, it'll turn on and display the "Kindle Fire" logo on the screen then turn off after 5 seconds. If I plug it into a USB port, it'll turn on and display the "Kindle Fire" logo on the screen then turn off after 5 seconds. If I plug in the factory cable, it'll turn on and display the "Kindle Fire" logo, then display the "Fastboot Kindle Fire" logo then turn off after 5 seconds. I've left the unit on the charger for hours on end, then attempt to turn it on using the power button or plugging in a normal or factory USB cable and it'll do the same thing, turn off after 5 seconds.
OK you may have a 50/50 shot if its doing this because of a bad boot loader, but it could make things worse and end up in a hard brick if it shuts off mid flash, but if it happened to be something wrong with the battery then you would risk this for nothing, but I'm more inclined to think its the bootloader since it doesn't warn u of a low battery. If the fastboot device needs its drivers still, try installing the ones in my signature in that small time frame. If u can manage that, get a copy of the boot loader for your device and check the md5sum of the file( very important) and make sure it matches. Once you have that setup, you need to flash the boot loader onto the device, so I would suggest putting the boot loader in the same folder as fastboot.exe and running "fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader bootloaderfile.bin" and let it say waiting for device, then plug you fastboot cable in and see if it will successfully flash within 5 seconds. If things go south it will hard brick though from an incomplete flash so just warning you ahead of time its up to you.

[Q] Brick Kindle fire HD 7", red screen after Fireflash.

hello everyboddy !
I have a rooted kindle fire HD 7" with the last update and i have attempted to install:
2nd bootloader
Fireflash
TWRP
CM10
But... when i have try to install twrp with Fireflash a red screen is a appeared after the reboot.
I'm a noob and i'm a little panicked !!! Can you help me to unbrick my kindle, i'm ready to make evrything but i have only in my hand my kindle and the original cable.
Please XDA's community !!!
buy a fastboot cable
this helped me with a red screen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254
The reason this happened was because you was on 7.3x of the AmazonOS, you needed to flash the 7.23 bootloader first before installing the second bootloader. Only a factory cable and the restore tool will save you now.
I did the same thing and the fast boot cable saved me. Good investment.

It may look complicated but I've used his method on 3 kindles successfully and I'm a bit of a noob Just make sure you open the command window from the folder in which you saved the files - shift +right click mouse >open command window here. Sorry if you already know this. It just took me ages to figure that out lol! The link is here:

Actually, I've used the FireFlash method twice now on my Kindle Fire HD, and it's worked flawlessly both times, and takes less than five minutes to complete. But hey, whatever works.
i was also stuck in a red screen loop!
you really need a factory cable
what i did was turn off the kindle fire hd then plug in the cable, i turned on the device, and boom just use the toolkit which you can find on the development thread
i hope this helps!!! i was so frustrated as to why it wouldnt work
also you must have the kindle fire adb drivers.
ONLY FOR THOSE WITH A BROKEN POWER BUTTON: and if you dont happen to have a functioning power button like me, wait until the tablet dies, after just plug in the tablet to your pc with the factory cable that way when it finally recharges it boots up in fastboot, otherwise your tablet will be in red screen forever

[Q] HELP! Kindle Fire HD 7 doesn't boot

Hi, everybody. First of all I want to say that what I did on my KFHD was a rookie mistake which nobody should ever repeat. To begin with, I copied the full Nexus 7 build.prop into my KFHD. When I tried to reboot it, the problem began. The "kindlefire" bootlogo shows up for about 3 seconds and the screen goes fully black. On my desperation, I made the second terrible mistake: I managed to get the KF into recovery mode through System File Manager V 0.4 and made a full restore. Nothing changed. I bought a fastboot cable and I'm trying to restore it through SR Tool but it doesn't work. Is there anything I can do? I would really appreciate your help!

Hi, thanks for your help. I downloaded KF First Aid and followed all the steps. When it finished downloading all the images there is a message displaying " < waiting for device >" and nothing changes. Any suggestion?
OK either you didn't answer no to kffa when it asked if you want it to place the kindle in fastboot, or your drivers for fastboot aren't installed. I'm betting on the drivers. Plug the kindle and open the device manager, you should see a Tate device with a yellow triangle next to it. Download the drivers in my signature and extract them somewhere. Now right click the Tate device and hit update drivers, hit browser, point it to where you extracted mine. Try kffa again.
If on windows 8 you will have to disable driver signature enforcement first.

[Q] Kindle Fire HD 7" 2013 (KFSOWI) stuck on fastboot

Hi guys,
i have a problem with my kindle fire hd 7 (2013) soho.
It is stuck in fastboot mode. During normal start up it shows gray kindle fire logo for a few seconds, after that screen goes red shortly and then it goes to fastboot mode.
I have tried to restore in several ways it but without success.
1. Used firerooter 0.2.3 with Fire OS version 11.3.1.0 and 11.3.2.2
- it starts to download minisystem.img and there is a line on top of the Kindle screen " Start downloading writing system. . . . done", firerooter displays message "waiting for boot..........Make sure the Nexus ADB drivers are installed" and it just hangs there like that
- i have used win7 and win xp and in both operating systems kindle is recognized in device manager as Android device -Android ADB interface
2. i have also tried to upload some image files ( stock boot, stock system and stock recovery )with fastboot commands found on thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2650596 and boot image is passing ok but for stock system i get a message that file is to bigto be uploaded
So if anybody has some solution i would be very grateful.
Btw. sorry for bad english it's not my native language........

Thanks Red for a link.......
i forgot to mention in my first post that i have already tried with Kindlesuite but without results....
downloading and writing boot is passing without problem as well as downloading recovery but then everything is stuck at writing recovery....
waited few minutes although recovery file is not big but nothing happens it just hangs " writing recovery ".....
as explained in first post also with other tools firerooter and with fastboot commands, boot is uploaded normally but then on next steps upload/recovery stops......
i have also tried to contact Kyleberry.graphics who had same/similar problem and in thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2650596 he has mentioned that by using fastboot commands and by resizing system image he made it boot :
" I GOT IT TO BOOT!!!! modified a systemimg and it booted.
file available at
https://drive.google.com/#folders/0B...zc3eDdvRVJXaWM
writing a script tomorrow"

but that thread is not active any more and mentioned link is not working for me
i'm not expert ( can copy/paste few files on windows ) and there is a big possibility that i'm doing something wrong so if there is anything else that could be done to restore the unit that would be great............
one more time maybe it will help you helping me:
unit is Kindle fire HD 7 ( 2013 ) , bought in Germany, recognized by windows as Android ADB interface -SOHO-PVT-Prod-07
and during normal startup it shows GRAY kindle fire logo for a few seconds and then screen goes dark
