Xperia Z1 (C6902) issues after a few centimeters in water photography - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I will explain what happened as elaborate as possible so that some of you can help me with the problem I've been facing.
I have put my phone in water about 5 - 10 cms in my aquarium for a video. 1 was 20 seconds and as it came well. I've took another video for 47 seconds. After that I've tried checking for problem in any component of phone and everything went well. I've shared videos and then used my phone as usual for a long time and phone was completely normal.
I've placed my phone on dock for charging and the magnet didn't work in the first instant. They just didn't stick. I thought it was some issue and I just rubbed my phone to the dock twice or thrice and the magnetic action came back along with a wide array of problems.
I removed from dock while charging and the screen started to randomly blink and the touch never worked. I placed it back in the dock and it charged normally. After a while I've removed it from the dock and the screen got blank all of a sudden scaring me to death. I placed it back and again took it. This time it worked completely normal as if nothing happened and I was able to send a text message. I thought that was just for one time and placed it back for charging and that was the last time my phone touch screen worked.
I removed from the dock after a while trying to unlock the screen and nothing happens. I could use all the hard buttons on the screen. I was able to capture photos using the camera button. Change volume, lock and unlock screen. I tried switching off using the method of volume up + power button. It turned off and on turning on it got even bad. The sony logo blinks a lot it goes dim it comes bright and all sorts of weird things happened. I've removed the sim card and turned on the phone to charge and now the phone restarts after every few minutes.
Even now except the touch screen everything else works fine like the camera. I tried removing the screen protector but that didn't help.
Hoping to have an answer other than taking it to a service center.
Thanks

It seems that not all of z1s are waterproof. I had mine in the sea in about 1 meter deep for 30mins and its still completely functional ( I wash it every day too). Anyway, sorry to tell you but simply there isn't any way to fix it yourself. The only thing you can do is take it to service. And more bad news to come: your warranty doesn't cover damage from water, so you will have to pay. The only thing you can try is blowing your phone with a hairdryer for a few secs, but thats risky.

Took it to the service center. Asked them to check the flaps before they accepted the mobile and there was no water through flaps as the flap litmus is completely unaffected. They took it under warranty and the next day called me to say that it had water in the display connector and the same warranty void answer but I've requested to let me know how the water went inside and they said it was through the bottom speaker grill which clearly means manufacturing defect. Along with escalating the issue I've also asked for a quote for the repair if the warranty gets void and today they came up with this wonderful quote of ₹20,179 its wonderful because I purchased the phone for ₹17,600 just a month ago. The request for manufacturing defect inspection is under progress so I wish to get some good news.

More strange things here. I have completely lost all of my speaker grill but my phone is still 100% waterproof. It's clearly a manufacturing defect, but I doubt they will accept it . Sony support and service is just terrible

Water damage, maybe?

Eh, bad week. First comes the small crack in my Kaiser's screen, getting out of a car, then somehow the bottom of my cup from BK giving out in my car, pouring water into the area where I leave my phone.
I know you folks have read a fair share of water damage problems, I have searched around for the last hour or two reading threads, but to my avail, haven't came across anyone with the same problem as I.
Basically, as the phone stands at the moment, it's basically completely stock. Haven't flashed anything, added a few programs, etc. Haven't upgraded the battery; everything is how it would be buying a brand new phone, essentially. As for my problem, yes, the water sensitive sticker is pink. The phone was probably sitting in about a half inch of water for 10 minutes; only the bottom half (everything below the LCD) got wet. Then, it probably sat in my pocket for a good 10 minutes before I noticed my leg was getting drenched. I took it out of my pocket, only to see my screen going berserk, thinking that it had to do with my small crack in my screen from the day before. (The crack only runs about 1/8th of an inch in the bottom left corner. The touch screen and LCD were working absolutely fine the entire day with it there.) I noticed the bottom of the phone was wet, took the battery out, etc., and promptly took the SD card and my SIM out as well. I dried everything off, as there wasn't really much water anywhere, just streaks of water here and there, let the phone sit in front of the heat in the car for a good half hour or so, and decided to test it out to see if it works.
Normally, I'd be afraid to put the battery in so quick, but everything seemed pretty dry. On my first attempt, it booted up absolutely fine, with the exception of lasting long. After the AT&T screen and the norm, I got to my home screen where the screen ended up breaking up into pixels and slowly fading black, then to white. I decided to take the battery out and let it dry again.
I got home earlier tonight, took out the hair dryer, dried it on very low heat for 30 minutes, just to be sure, and tried again. This time, everything boots up, with the exception of the graphics. It goes to a very-bright white screen, where the AT&T logo would normally be, then dims a bit, where the green windows mobile load would be, then stays that way. After I know it's fully booted, everything works, but the screen is still white. Keyboard lights up, I can receive and make calls, speaker works. Hell, I know the camera works as well because the back-light goes the brightest when I hit the camera button, and take a picture I can hear the shutter sound.. despite no graphics.
My question is, do you guys think it has to do with the crack in the screen at all, or the water damage? If I had to take a guess, it would be the water. If I touch the crack, or any part of the screen, I don't get the normal black/white discoloring someone would normally get. Yet, why would everything be functional except the screen? Since I bought the phone off of Ebay, I have absolutely no coverage with AT&T, and never planned to anyway, my only resort would be to either mess with the phone itself, or find a repair service.. and of course buying another tilt, which, could kind of burn a hole in my pocket with the holidays and all. I'm tempted to go buy a set of T torx, but of course it'd be my first time taking apart this device and if it is repairable, I'm not trying to be the sole "act" of bricking it.
Anyone have any thoughts or comments? Anything would be appreciated.
Thanks, Scott.
Edit: Gah, just got another RLOD. I've gotten past this once already.. it ended up being my manufacturer's charger. When I toggled with it for awhile, nothing seemed to fix it. I got pissed one night, and jammed the old charger into the USB slot, and viola, amber light. I changed chargers right away, and it's been working fine since. I just tried messing with it again, but nothing happened. I guess I'm going to take apart the device, leave everything standing for a few days, and see what happens, unless of course, someone provides a decent solution to this.
Edit2: Lol, Amber light again. I hate this ****. I'm really looking into the Fuze, but once again, I'd like to get this up and running.
The first thing to do if you get water damage is pull the battery and do not put it back in until you're well beyond sure it's dry and clean. If the liquid was salt water, soda, etc, it would have to be cleaned, then dried.
Otherwise, probably garbage. Especially considering it ran for a while when wet, and you then tried to power it back up after wiping it off.

unfortunately this is quite true... I've been working with electronics (specifically printed circuit boards & surface mount technology) for nearly 2 decades and have seen a number of items with water damage come out fine if it was powered down, cleaned and dried properly.
Disassembly of the tilt and hermes is very easy, especially with Mike's guide. But you have a digital problem. You could take it appart and try to clean the surfaces of the circuit boards with a q-tip and some Isopropyl alcohol, possibly a short amoungst one of the IC's. I think at this point, you've got nothing left to loose. Good luck none the less, let us know what happens. PM me if you think I can help!
Thanks guys, I'll see what I can do.
Hi
I was wondering if the OP managed to get this sorted ? I have the same problem, due to phone somehow being exposed to water. the OS loads fine, but screen stays white.
Is there any solution ?
Thanks

[Q] xperia z mobo replace/water damage

hey guys here is a story
so i removed my xperias factory screen protector (because of a major scratch on it) and it left some
residue on the screen. so i started washing it off in the sink w/soap and water. although after i finished i dried it off and
noticed that the water enter the ports (headphone and charger) because the rubber bits were broken. (so i thought it cant be that bad i
took a shower with my one s multiple times and it didn't fritz up or anything) then i noticed my back light flickered and i
thought this is bad so i proceed to turn it off but it wouldn't stay off (it practically boot looped several times) then it finally
turned off then i placed my charger in just to see what would happen it had a red led w/ 3 vibrates after a bit i
blow dried it with a hair dryer and sucking and blowing my device like CPR and finally burred it in rice (what i should of done
before) and left it over night then i woke up plunged it in the charger and my screen had water and my lock
button doesn't work although it seams everything else works (i think the usb is buggy)
although i think im going to have to buy a new button thinginy and i was also wondering if i replace my mobo with a 6603 because i have a locked tmous version. could everything run normally and have an unlocked boot loader?
read the red if tltr;
You water damaged your phone, so you will have to replace more than the "button thinginy".
You will be better of just buying a new phone, as the cost of all the parts you need will be in excess of buying a new one.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
honestly for all the trouble of finding a motherboard, disassembling your device to fix it DIY, you might mess it up and it might cost you more.
unless you REALLY know what you are doing and have NOTHINg to lose, just send it in for repairs. or just buy a new phone.
you two are probably right about not taking the risk although I did find out I have a faulty battery and the buttons I found out that the volume up key took the place of the power button (it can only wake the phone) and it also does it's normal duties
I'm going to do a change log soon (yes a change log) on my phones states for any solutions
plz I didn't even own it for more than 6 months sad panda Is sad

[Q] Weird water damage

Hello,
I used my z1 in water and it turned off after a while. Then, a day after, it suddenly turned itself on, and worked for about a day. During that period, there were an issue about battery level, and so on, it showed wrong level, but it worked. Also, i could notice some drops of water under the screen. Afterwards, it turned off, and I couldn't make it work ever since.
But... When I press vol up and power btn it vibrates 3 times. When I hold pow it vibrates once (turns on) and after couple of seconds it obvioulsy starts working, I get audio notices about new mail, SMS and so on. The second I receive mail on computer phone makes a sound as well, so it is actualy on. But... Screen is not working at all...
What can I do?
Thanks
You can try drying your phone through rice and forget about it for a couple days, however I recommend you send your phone in since the screen is already not working. If you want though, to reduce cost, you can replace the parts yourself, but it's very hard to find the parts, diagnosing what's working and not, and performing the assembly / disassembly process.
there are videos how to take z1 into parts, but it is not easy, seriously. i would also try opening ports and put phone into rice for some days.
Just one question, have you tried contacting Sony? The device is IP certified, should be covered under waranty.

[Q] Screen Flipped and Mirrored after drops of water went inside

Alright so basically 5 weeks ago I had my phone in the pool with me, just a shallow backyard pool. And somehow water got into the flaps tripping the water indicators.
I felt it overheat and the camera button being held down, so i basically turned it off and drained its battery. For a few days it was fine, but couldnt hold a charge and everything was fine, but some water in the screen. And then it decided to invert and flip itself. From then on it hasn't been turned on.
I sent it off to Sony but they send it right back to me unfixed, which kinda confused me, because i got a message saying the Claim was approved and they'll be sending a new device out to me. And then when i recieved it, it was my phone, with the loudspeaker grille nowhere to be found.
So now ive decided to take things into my own hands. Where do you guys think the problem is?
Currently its like this
No Water In Screen
Phone Works Perfectly
Screen Mirrored and Flipped
Top of Digitizer not responding so cant pull down menu
Ill be opening it up pretty soon so Im just trying to get an idea of where i should focus my search.
The speaker is also where the screen/digitizer is connected at.. so if there is no loudspeaker there you may have a problem because of that!
Also opening the phone is very tedious and I advise against that.. they should fix it!
There has to be some kind of app that can flip the screen.....

[Q] My phone is drawned then resurrected

EDIT: Sorry for the mistake in the title
Hi guys, I need a suggestion about what to do with my phone.
I've always cleaned it under running water without problems, but Friday 5th I decided to do something more and I put it in the swimming pool to make a video; I didn't go neither deep neither for a long time: about 10-20 secs 10cm under the water surface. When I finished to record the video I pressed the stop button, the phone was frozen, touch was unresponsive and 30 secs later it said "Unable to save the video", then it worked well.
I washed the phone under tap water as written in instructions (chlorinated water has to be removed immediately after submersion). 15/30 minutes later the phone turned off by itself, and I couldn't turning it on. After some other attempt it turned on but immediately shut down after Sony logo. Some other try and the phone seemed to work well, but when I arrived at home the phone turned off by itself and I noticed that the rear camera was covered by condensation and the water indicator near the SIM card slot was pink. So I left the phone on with all ports open and I went to sleep. Next morning condensation was almost (but not entirely) gone but the phone had turned off by itself. I put it under charge and... After 5 secs it died. Saturday and Sunday the phone did not turn on, and the LED did not turn on when put under charge. Fortunately on these days Xperia Care support was closed so I had to wait the next Thursday when I came home from a study trip and... Surprise: the phone works perfectly and I'm using it right now flawlessly.
Of course the water indicator is still pink and, according to the Sony manual, warranty is gone. Should I bring it to Xperia Care for a vacuum test risking htey keep it for long time? I'm sure the ports were closed when I put the phone in the water and I did a pressure test and the results are:
one finger pressure at the center: 993(relax)-994(press)-993(stabilization)-990(release)-993(relax)
four fingers pressure at the center: 993(relax)-997(press)-993(stabilization)-989(release)-993(relax)
If you were me what would you do? Thanks in advance.
If all is working why bother then? And the pressure sensor is only worth comparing by a) slightly pushing your finger on scren with flaps closed, b) doing the sam ewith all flaps open.
