I wanted so much to buy the Note 7, but we all know how the story went...
Right now I am on a stock unrooted S7 edge because I want to use NFC paying systems without troubles.
However I see 'tools' like suhide and Magisk and I am tempted by buying again a Note 5, but I am not sure what are they exactly?
Also would they really allow me to use NFC paying system APKs by hiding succesfully root.
The apps I am using are 'Vodafone Pay' (Italian version of Vodafone Wallet) and 'La tua banca'.
Samsung does not rely on NFC, that's why it can work on payment terminals that don't accept NFC. Therefore use Samsung Pay!

We don't have Samsung Pay (yet) in Italy. [emoji6]

The only thing that needs to accept Samsung Pay in a region is a bank - no changes needed to any terminals. Therefore if you have a bank outside of Italy, maybe it would still work?

I am not talking about Samsung Pay AT ALL.
I am talking about root hiding methods that have been introduced recently (see above) and that could be handy with the two mentioned apps that I currently use.
Please stay in topic. [emoji6]

Will the Nexus 6 support Google Wallet Tap and Pay? I'm assuming that it will. I'm on T-Mobile and currently have the Note 3 which they are blocking from working with Google Wallet. Since this is a Google device, I'm hoping that Tap and Pay will work. I'm tired of the Isis/SofCard stuff especially since it doesn't work with rooted phones.
It will surely work!

The Note 3 isn't blocked. The NFC chip in the Note 3 doesn't have support for Host Card Emulation in KitKat.
Google not supporting Google Wallet fully on their own branded device would be silly. Especially with Apple Pay now on the scene. There is a 99.999% chance that it will work..
Use it all the time without fail on my g3. Should be awesome bumping a big screen TV to the pay pass device.

I'm using Isis on my rooted Note 3: I used an Xposed module called RootCloak. 'Worked like a charm.
Got mine yesterday and setup Wallet, Tap & Pay is working as expected.
Yeah I used it yesterday and I'm on ATT
I've been having a lot of trouble using sofcard since rooting in my note 3. Root cloak does NOT work. But the root cloak module with xposed did the trick. It now works flawlessly.

To answer op, Google wallet works without any problems although you should note that some companies have disabled Nfc payments due to their partnership with that company, I forget on the top of my head but search for cvs Google wallet

That would be awesome!
Been using Wallet since I got the phone last week from ATT. I wish I got a buck for; "Oh is that the new iPhone 6?" comments, Apple did invent paying via NFC after all.
^ Lmao, just had this happen this morning.
Just to be clear... It sounds like the op is talking about tap and pay, which is one of many features of google wallet. Subsequent answers seem to be making the assumption that google wallet IS tap and pay, which is patently untrue. Google wallet works fabulously on old non-NFC iphones for example... Its just that the tap and pay feature doesnt.
In answer to whether gw tap and pay works on the n6, it works fine. But beware if you are into custom roms... Last i looked, there were no AOSP roms besides stock google, in which tap and pay works without kludgey workarounds if at all.
My att n6 is rooted but othwise stock and i used gw tap and pay in the verizon store to buy something for my brother, and in the tmobile store to buy something for my wife.
I used gw tap and pay at CVS and Walgreen's a few months ago on my 4.4.2 note 2 and it worked fine. But I've heard the drug stores are might be trying to do something that might block he tap and pay.

I want to root my SM-N920C but I've heard some things break, like some samsung apps, samsung pay, screen monitoring, netflix, etc. Can you guys confirm what's broken after rooting the device? Such as apps, features or any change at all from stock.
Rooting doesnt technically "break" anything. Samsung has a security system in place called knox. It is tied into secure stuff like the nfc payment hardware. It has a "counter" that keeps track of u doing stuff to effect the security of those features. Rooting trips that counter and in turn will make samsung pay un usable. Even if u unroot the counter has been tripped and samsung pay will not work.
As far as i know this is the only app that is useless after root. There are other nfc payment apps u could still use after root but samsung pay is a little different in that it will read a magnetic strip reader whether the merchant is set up for nfc payment or not.
The problem with sampay though is the amount of banks supported is very limited. So your bank is prob not even going to work with it unless u use one of the 4 set up with it. Apps like netflix and others u mentioned shouldnt be effected that i know of

Before rooting ask yourself why u want to. I use to do it solely for the hotspot unlocking since sprint wants to charge u for it. But the note 5 u can unlock it without root. So figure out if u need root then u know whether u should root. If u are someone like me who changes phones a lot u may not care about samsung pay but the person getting your phone after u might want it

I remember back with the Note 2 you could put a wee device in the USB port which would reset the counter. I assume that is no longer the case any more?

I just can't seem to get Samsung Pay to work with Walmart card readers. Think they have them rigged somehow to help push their Walmart pay service?
I've never got it to work at Walmart. I think it has something to do with their actual card readers not allowing it to work. Probably trying to push their own Walmart pay

Up at self checkout, I can only get one register to work. All the others get card read errors. The one that works, when it asks for my pin, I have to select "change payment method" and select Credit for it to go through. If someone is on this register, I'm screwed.
I had the same issue of it not work and I had left my wallet at home!
We tried for about 3 minutes and little did I know that at least 10 other people were in line behind me LOL
I told the lady at the register I would be back and for her to hold my things ( I never went back)
Always works with me. The cashiers have the shocked look on their faces every time. Lol
Works for me every time at both the self checkout and regular line.
Works fine for me. Used BOA and citi bank cards just fine.
Works for me at Walmart. The only store where I haven't been able to make it work is Lowe's.

It uses both. It uses NFC on tap to pay terminals and the magnetic spoofing on magnetic swipe terminals.
To the OP: I've only been able to use it once in Walmart. I've tried 10 times now at several different Walmarts and have never gotten it to work again, even on the same register where it worked before.

True it can use tap to pay, but even on those machines I just do MST lol I never use NFC.

I think he was really meaning that disabling nfc doesn't hinder using Samsung pay.

Actually it is my understanding that if you have NFC turned off, Samsung Pay will enable it temporarily for the payment and I have seen in settings where NFC goes on in my first Note because one time it failed to turn off after paying.
I have also read in several places that Samsung Pay automatically turns on NFC.

Where as this is true, it is not dependent upon nfc and they enable it to provide both possible options. It is not dependent on if there is a nfc device to tap so in this case if Walmart disables the nfc payment reader our Samsung devices won't care because it will use the mst instead.

After all this time you'd think the American public would realize what wireless payments are. It's no surprise Google Wallet didn't take off!

Exactly. I just don't get it. Ive been using phone/NFC payments since the Nexus S. It still seems new to ppl.
I think most ppl know about "apple pay".
Hi guys I really want to root but my main worrys is knox does anyone have a full list of what tripping knox brakes
I've head that most custom roms can save s health is there anything else
I must admit I don't use Samsung pay or secure folder
I just don't want to have features broken where it make parts of the device useless forever like the heart rate monitor ect
Thanks
Basically that's it.
Samsung Pay, And secure folder, i can use everything else.
In my country we don't have samsung pay so idc, and for secure folder i just use private mode or app lock instead, i don't feel like im missing anything.

Well here in the UK Samsung pay doesn't support Halifax yet and it's not somethi g I'd use anyways so s health ect is fine
What about Samsung pass? Then again I carnt see me using that either lol
There's also the problem that you won't receive OTA security updates unless you're using the official firmware.
I know in the past the value of the phone for re-sale is lower on a Knox tripped phone as well, so if you want to get a decent price for the phone if you don't plan on keeping it until it dies that is something to consider as well.
I never had a problem selling rooted phones, as long as you're honest about it when selling, rooting is one of the first things a lot of buyers will do anyway.
my rooted with custom ROM note 4 sold for 335 euro when I bought the n8 last year
If you do not care about knox and samsung pay, AND, in your country rooting does not void warranty, root it

Mmh, I already sent a Galaxy Note 4 on Custom ROM in a PSM (Point Service Mobile, shop who sent to Samsung Repair Center) they flashed Original ROM and sent to Samsung.
They repaired the phone without ask me money.
Moreover, in France, they must repair the phone if the hardware is defective

Called "Samsung Stars" (Some dedicated team that I assume S9 and Note 9 users get access to) yesterday and in the UK at least, they confirmed that if the KNOX bit has been reset and you send the phone to be repaired, the service centre won't even touch it, hardware fault or not.

This item (warranty, )seems to have been discussed with every Samsung I can remember owning since Knox came into use.
You won't likely get a definitive answer since many owners in various countries including UK will argue that neither Samsung or any other manufacturer gets the final say on warranty repairs.
Many countries, including UK have consumer protection legislation that gives purchasers repair rights for defective items. You may get company warranty department staff and retailers who don't fully understand these consumer protection, you may have to be assertive or get trading standards department to assist you to get repair for defects.

This is definitely news to me. For folks like myself who try to maximize battery durability, this would be a very welcome side effect. Constantly keeping an eye on the battery percentage while charging is getting old
Yes in France if they sell you an hardware, you can use like you want. I even wonder if Knox restrictions are really legal to be honest.
I'm pretty sure when you trip Knox you are "burning a bit" like a fuse bit on an adrino hobby chip and that's permanent
