I am stuck on the CWM Android system recovery screen. My Kernel is fine, I entered it not realizing I couldn't get out because my home button hasn't worked in over a year. I've tried resetting with the power button, and the power button + down key, but it always comes back to this screen. All I need to do is select the "reboot system now" button but without a Home Key I can't select it. Any way around this? Is my phone esentially bricked?

Bricked?

goto the option of reboot system now and press power key...
Just pull battery and power on. It will be fine for sure.
As for the home button, it can be fixed, but until then go search and learn how to flash from fastboot.

Hello everyone.
I got a new Galaxy Ace S5830i today.
I rooted it and installed CWM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552792).
After that I did install Retribution beta 4 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806471).
Then after rebooting I ended up getting a boot animation loop and neither the recovery mode would work nor the download mode.
Could anyone of you please help me? I feel very uncomfortable with a brick in my pocket. :x
I'd be surprised if neither were working, particularly if you are getting as far as the boot animation.
To clarify, to enter recovery mode: Switch off your phone (pull out the battery and re-insert if its looping and the power button won't work), hold down power button AND home/rectangular button AND volume up button. When you see the Samsumg GT-S5830i logo, let go of the power button but continue to hold down the home and volume up buttons for around 5 seconds then let go of everything. Recovery console should appear on screen.
To enter download mode: Switch off your phone, hold down power button AND volume up button AND volume down button. Warning about custom OS's should appear, followed by download mode after pressing volume up again. If this doesn't work try taking out battery, sim card and SD card, connecting USB lead (screen will be completely powered off) and then trying the key combination.
Hi guys,
I just unlocked my phone and tried entering recovery mode, but it won't work, it just boots normal.
Pressing 3 sec VolDown + Power
Pressing VolDown, then VolUp.
Android Logo appears and after a few seconds phone boots just normal.
Tried it now a thousand times.
Any suggestions?

Ohhh srry flash stock recovery
I have a slightly different problem, I try to get into Recovery but in Recovery no options show up at all, all I see is the Android robot laying down with the '!' mark, with no options, sometimes it also says 'No command' with the Android.
Boot menu before you select Recovery works fine. (I'm completely stock)

Similar issue here: I unloacked the bootloader, and can't enter recovery mode of the stock Motorola recovery. Recovery mode stops with same picture as described above, robot lying on it's back. Does Motorola prevent loading the stock recovery when the phone is unlocked? I did not try to enter recovery with locked phone by the way, so can't tell if stock recovery didn't work in the first place.
Hi
That's the correct behaviour. Press volume UP+power, release power then volume UP, that v then shows the menu in recovery
Sent from my XT1068 using XDA Free mobile app
Finally I found correct way to do that
To be clear I will start from beginning
1. Power off device
2. Press Volume DOWN + Power buttons for 3 to 5 sec then release Volume DOWN and then Power
3. Now select Recovery. Android with /!\ will be shown.
[Lollipop]
4. Press Power and while pressing it tap Volume Up
[KitKat]
4. Press Volume UP for 5 sec while pressing Volume UP press Power button.
(don't release Volume UP before pressing Power)
You are now in stock Recovery

Thanks, for the explanation! Only remaining odd thing: my device reboots to system OS instead of recovery when selecting recovery in the bootloader. I'm only able to go into recovery by:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery
I have the same exact problem where I could not go to recovery mode.
When in fastboot screen, I select Recovery by pressing volume up button and instead of phone going to recovery mode, my phone restarts to lands to lock screen.
When you say that you are able to go to recovery by -
Code:
fastboot boot recovery
What does it mean?
Which directory I have to be in to execute this command?

My moto g is having the same problem, let me try the method you mentioned down here

It is really odd though that you have to follow steps which are not mentioned in fastboot mode to get to the recovery mode.

My phone won't go past the android with ! in a triangle. I have tried pressing the up button for 15 secs and then the power button but nothing happens.
I have a Consumer Cellular XT1064 with unlocked bootloader which I flashed to retail Rom. Then I was able to go to stock recovery normally with pressing up 15sec and power, and manually flash the 5.0 OTA update. Now a few weeks later when I want to flash the second OTA update, I can't go into recovery.
Any help please.

Worked on the first attempt. This is the correct key combination in the Android 5.0 build.

Not bricked , either stuck in boot loop or Hanging ( a soft brick) both ARE fixable
custom recovery? boot to this and wipe ALL caches / data / user / dalvik etc and then try to boot ROM again
How do I reset my device?
In the unlikely event that your device becomes unresponsive, frozen, blank or black screen, or will not respond to the power button, you can perform a force restart or reboot on the device by following the steps below.
Press and hold the Power button for 7 - 10 seconds, the device will restart and go through the boot-up sequence.
Notes:
The forced restart or reboot will not delete any Data on your phone.
If completing the 7-10 second Reset does not recover normal functionality of the device, then press and hold the Power Button for a full 120 seconds while connected to a charger.
Factory Data Reset is a tool used to remove everything that was imported, added or installed on the device. Keep in mind, when using this feature everything is deleted.
To reset your device:
1. Touch Image
2. Touch Settings
3. Touch Backup & reset
4. Touch Factory Data Reset
5. Touch Reset Phone
External Reset (KitKat)
If you are unable to access the phone's menu to perform the standard reset you can attempt an external factory reset.
Notes:
When using this feature; everything is deleted from the device.
Reset will require a minimum battery level of 25%. If you are unable to perform a reset, please charge for 20-30 minutes and try reset again.
1. With the phone powered off, press the VOL DOWN KEY for 2-3 seconds then POWER key then release.
2. The device will display different BOOT OPTIONS
3. Use the VOL DOWN Key to SCROLL to Recovery and VOL UP Key to select
Tip: If the device reboots, you may have waited to long to make a selection, you will need to begin the process again.
4. The device will display the Motorola logo and then the Android in distress ( logo with Exclamation mark)
5. Press and hold the VOL UP key for 10-15 seconds. While still holding the VOL UP key tap and release the POWER key
Tip: You can try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are stuck on step 6, try a force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.
6. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear in BLUE)
7. Use the VOL DOWN Key to scroll to Wipe data / factory reset and the POWER Key to select this option
8. Use the VOL DOWN key again to select YES - delete all user data and press the POWER key to CONFIRM
9. Once the Formatting is complete, press the POWER key to confirm a REBOOT
10. The device will reboot and start the normal power up sequence
External Reset (Lollipop)
1. With the phone powered off, press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button at the same time until the device turns on. You will see the word "Start" with an arrow around it.
2. Press the Volume Down button twice to highlight "Recovery mode"
3. Press the Power button to restart into Recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark and the words "No command."
4. While holding down the Power button, press the Volume Up button.
5. Use the volume buttons to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press the Power button to select it.
6. Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press the Power button to select it.
Well hold the power button till the screen goes black .. Now don't leave the power button and press the volume down the volume button ! Now leave the volume down button and then power button.. You'll boot in to the bootloader ! Now boot into the recovery ! And flash some other ROM !
Or flash the same ROM again .. This time clear internal data , system , dalvik cache , and then flash the ROM ! Hope this works !
So as title suggest, having hard time accessing the recovery. Cannot into it. So, if you guys dont mind, post here the right combo and sequence, how to access the recovery. I have managed it before, even writen down how its supposed to be done, but doesnt work for me now anymore, the way it used.
// EDIT
And just when i bothered to make this topic, i found how it actually works, by trial and error.
Into BOOTLOADER: Press and hold POWER, then press and hold VOL DOWN, once the logo appears, let go off the POWER, but keep pressing the VOL DOWN until till the bootloader appears.
Past the DEAD DROID, into RECOVERY: Press both POWER and VOL UP, until the recovery meny appears.
