Violet pink Tint screens - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

This is what makes me irritated about Samsung. Mine of course has the Violet hue. Yes all the same exact settings full brightness etc. Purchased through Samsung . Guess I'll open a ticket.

That is pretty obvious. I hope that we're not going to have another case of screen lottery.

Talked to a Samsung rep in best buy, believes it'll just be a software update like the s8 problem they had this year. He doubts Samsung will warranty it as a defect

If I had a buck for every time I had someone tell me that over the years... These types of things have been going on since electronic devices got screens. If it was a software issue, wouldn't it affect all screens? My wife's Note 8 looks a lot more like the picture on the right.

Is it possible that blue light filter is ON on one of the phones?

Doesn't the blue light filter make the screen more yellow?

Looks like only a portion of your screen is tinted no amount of software update can fix that issue, you lost out on the screen lottery, demand for a replacement.

A possible problem

Hello guys I never noticed it but for some time I noticed something strange on the screen of my galaxy S. Putting it in landscape in the upper left corner i see the notification bar as if it's printed on the screen. I don't post any screen because in these you can't see what you see on the screen phone and that's what worries me
Sorry for my english
Thanks

Well since the picture is already burned in to your screen, the only way to fix it is to change the display. If you haven't opened the phone etc. then you can just take it to a service centre. I'm quite sure that burn in is covered under the warranty, so you won't have to pay anything.
You could first try to take the battery out for a couple of hours and see if it helps.
If that doesn't work, you can try to somehow put a bright white on the whole screen on the phone and keep it about an hour.
If none of those solutions work, just take it to a service centre.

Well yes, you've had the problem once so you could have it again. But warranties are there to ensure that you have a product that functions as expected. If Samsung are willing replace the item at no charge under warranty then it's obvious this is not the expected behaviour. Based on that logic not only is it your right to get a replacement, Samsung aren't really expecting it to happen again, otherwise burn in would be expected behaviour and not covered under warranty. Anyway my point, although so far, poorly made, is that it's not expected to happen again. Well that and so few other people have the same problem, it's extremely unlikely that it will happen again.

Exactly. Burn in is probably quite rare, especially in LED and LCD screens. I was actually surprised when I read your post. Old CRT screens used to get burn in quite often if one screen was left on for a long time. But since SGS has an AMOLED screen, the chances of a burn in happening again any time soon is quite slim.
You can try one of them burn in repair videos that just keep flashing colours that they use to unstuck pixels on lcd screens. You can get the video from youtube or anyplace you can and set media player to loop for a few hours. It might fix burn in.

Actually that wouldn't work, since the screen is AMOLED. There isn't any crystals that get stuck in one position. In LCD screens the pixels are tiny crystals that move in a way that a color is reflected to the screen. Sometimes these crystals get stuck in one position and so they show one color constantly. AMOLED screens have tiny LEDs that provide the colors to the screen. These can't get stuck, but they do wear out or burn out which leads to the colors not being produced correctly, and for that reason it'll look like a picture is stuck on the screen. That's something you probably can't do anything about.
Ok i'll see what to do.
Thanks to all!

LG Service Center complaints

I bought my N4 on 22-3-13.
it is a great device and i tried calibrating the screen before sending it in.
i had a REV11 unit.
anyway my problem was that i was having really yellowish tint on all screen but specially from left lower corner.
but the most annoying were the huge black spots especially on the upper side-center of the screen.
ok i did not worry cause some told me that that was just glue waiting to dry (well that is just BS).
the spots became larger and easier to spot when phone was getting hot( normal hot) and my eys were getting tired by that ( i guess because knowing where it is was making me concentate on that).
so i sent it to LG service here in Greece-Athens explaining the problem and along with the phone i sent a comparison pictire with another N4 of a friend.
their response toward me was " We see nothing. it is perfect. we are sending it back to you"!
lol. i asked them to keep it and contacted the customer protection agency.
2 days later LG calls me and says they are exchanging my motherboard. i asked them why, 2 days earlier you found nothing?
the responded it was the fault for the bad screen.
so they sent it back and guess what, the problem is still there and they sent a REV10 which i δon't minδ that but the previous board was flawless.
so now i am very pissed and will send it back on monday but to conclude, how dumb do you have to be not to exchange the screen and instead chang the MB when it is clearly the fault of that?
P.S: which one you think looks better?
The left one for sure is better

that is my point. they said it is the same. everyone i have asked say the same.
also a third one looks just like the left one. great
Personally, I don't see a problem with either. There will always be minor variations with screens.
If you want to be really picky about things, the left one that's "better" has a blueish hue on the top 1/3rd of the screen. I'd rather take the right one, but that's the point it's all subjective.
It looks like gamma variation. IMO the right one looks better. It looks like it has deeper blacks.

Are the brightness levels the same on both of the phones in that picture?
I know there are screen variances with this phone, though many don't believe. My coworkers Nexus 4 scree has washed out colors, whites aren't white, and just plain doesn't look as good as all of the others I've seen.
Some reviews you see on the web talk about the screen of the N4 seeming washed out. My phone isn't washed out in the slightest bit.

it's not even close.. the one on the left looks great, the one on the right looks like sh*t
You'd have to be blind not to admit that.
I just replicated the exact same thing with my friend's N4.
1) Gamma/Saturation can make it look exactly how yours do.
2) Brightness, I've got one set low and one set high and they do the same as what yours do...
I like the one on the right

Personally seeing issues like this makes me understand why companies lock bootloaders, and try to chase away modders like most on XDA. We are the most pickiest of all cell phone uses. We create problems that don't really exist and brick more phones than anybody else.
Having two phones with two different color tint is perfectly normal it happens all the time with big screen TVs. A manufactured doesn't always use the same supplier to supply a LCD screen Hance the different color tint.
Just get on with your life enjoy the phone and stop looking at a white screen

I was in the cell phone industry for over 10 years and this is a normal variation. Literally it happens all the time you probably might not have noticed if you had not had two phones next to each other. If you had brought that back to my store we would have told you it was normal. If phone manufacturers replaced phones for minor variations they would not be. If you don't like it sell it.

Yellow tint goes away after one week of using the device. Or root it and put your own screen values.

If they did that successfully, your phone would suck bro. The "modders"as you so elegantly put it are the reason things improve. Don't believe me? Look at how many 3rd apps turned into features that Android uses now as part of their OS. Linux is beautiful because of open source and sharing ideas. Go buy an iPhone and "get on with your life". It's consumers like you that allow mfgs to cram crap down your throat

Nothing against "modders" as I'm one myself. And I do appreciate the work that some have done on certain devices. But I mostly talking about the nitpicking, OCD'ing flashaholic that return devices after devices for minor imperfections like a squeaking volume rocker or yellowish tint, I can name a million more things but lets leave it at that.

it is not only the colors, it is the black spots too if you read my OP. they make my eyws suffer just by knowing they are there.

just so you know i am in the mobile phone industry.
i have a service center for mobile phones. i do not want to mention which one i represent.
i am not talking about color variations or lcd suppliers, i tried to calibrate it, but nevermind that, as i keep on saying the spots make the difference.
and i never asked the service to change the MB. i was very specific describing the problem.

Nexus 4 screen issue ( Not a troubleshooting topic)

Hi everyone, i would like to share a experience i've had with both of my nexus 4 ordered from the google play with you other n4 possessors.
This is not a troubleshooting topic it's just a kind of survey i'm doing.
I've received my nexus 4 in december, and i noticed there was something going on with the display, some horizontal lines stayed on the screen while i was swiping the homescreen or changing image/scrolling webpages. Then after a while i noticed there was a dark horizontal line on the left side of the screen. This line doesn't appear on white images, it can be seen more on grey or dark backgrounds, e.g. put the 4th default wallpaper and scroll all the way to the left and you should be able to see it. Also, this line became more and more marked on the screen depending on the temperature of the battery, e.g. while charging or playing heavy games or flash player. I called google play ordered a replacement and i got it the day after, turn it on, install all my apps, and the line was STILL there, also on the new device.
My question is, am I so unlucky that i've received 2 faulted devices from google or everyone has this problem? can anyone please check?
P.s. put brightness to the maximum when checking.
where is this line appearing i cant understand

On the left of the screen, horizontal dark line, it can be seen better on a gray or dark image, such as the wallpaper i suggested
The line actually appears when I'm swiping away recent apps..hadn't noticed until now. It could probably be fixed with switching roms though. I'm on JD's perfect android right now. This is my 3rd nexus device, no problems on it, 303k.

Thanks for checking justin, can you also check it again when the battery gets warmer? like just play a heavy 3d game or charge the phone. it should be more marked, sometimes i can even see it over my power control widget :crying:

Are you sure you don't mean vertical line? on the left side.
If so then yes mine has it.
I can't see any line on my display
oh god guys i meant Vertical..meangreenie is right.. sorry everyone, i mean vertical line on the left of the screen!
I've got 2 vertical lines on both sides of the screen (left and right) and they're not that much visible but they're always there. IT just looks as if those sides were a little bit dimmer than the rest of the screen.
I have same problem on my n4,there's grey line on left screen which more visible when the device getting heat..is it possible to disappear by itself after few time?or should i claim my warranty?thx before and sorry for my bad english
Guys I'm having the same issue. Should I claim my warranty? Or any solution to make it disappear? For me this is a very costly phone and I don't wanna take any risks. I can see the line in most apps even in chrome while typing in address bar the window greys out. At that time its perfectly visible. Its jus 1 month old n now I'm **** scared

Guys please help
I'm glad I caught this thread. I bought a refurbished Nokia wireless charging plate. I didn't have the good sense to check XDA first, and sure enough the thing has compatibility issues. I thought I'd just leave it on the plate overnight to settle in as some people have suggested, and after about an hour my screen was violently flashing on and off with pronounced vertical lines over the screen (discoloration, not a line of pixels). After a while the lines mostly faded, but I can still see them just as described in this thread when I pull down the notification tray or open any app with a grey background (like the gallery).
I just got an RMA today. I'm wondering whether we've all experienced power issues or if I just didn't notice the lines until I was looking for them.

I'm not so sure that this is even a problem that an RMA is going to fix. Like I said, I only noticed it when I was looking for it. Might just be a charactaristic of a batch of panels, more like a light leak than damage.
However, if it is damage there is no way you're fixing it without an RMA. It's clearly not a software level issue.
I thought I was the only one. Mine has it but I barely notice it anymore.

Hi guys i just bought a g flex today and first and foremost it is an amazing phone. There is a couple of things that i have noticed which would help me if anyome would know how to sort them.
1. There is a hravy screen burn. I know this is a common thing but wondered if anything can sort it.
2. No update for 4.4 i know this phone is a little old but you would still ecpect an update of sorts but nothing since the release.
2. The blacks on this phone just are ent black they have a grey hue and whites do too. And there are very small dots all over the screen. Now i came from a nexus 5 which had a FHD display and this doesnt but come on it shouldnt be that noticable to see eaxh pixel.
If there are any solutions to any of these problems they would be highly appreciated.

1. Do you have permanent burn-in or suffer temporary burn-in?
2. It is possible to flash 4.4 yourself if you are feeling a little adventurous and can find files. There are guides on the forum.
3. It's not even black in a dark room? Or are you talking about the reflections making the blacks appear grey? Amoled white won't be as white as on LCD.
Regarding the pixels/noise/grain that you see, it seems to float around different revisions of the screen. I've seen two Flexes. Mine and another. Mine does not suffer from it. I can hardly see it even if I look up close. While on the other one it was VERY visible and the only thing I could see all the time. This screen also heavily suffered from temporary image retention which mine does not.

You probably have the first model which was as grainy as the other one I saw myself. It was seriously grainy and unbearable.
Try dialing 3845#*955# (replace 955 with your model number). Then "settings/version info/HW Version". Do you see rev1.0 somewhere?
