Hey guys,
Just a general question here. I always installed my programs on the storage card and never the device whenever I had the option but then I wondered is there a difference in terms of speed or anything? Are there certain programs I should be installing on the device and not storage card?
I did a search and didnt find anything.
Thanks
I dont think speed is the problem. I have never encountered any noticeable difference in speed. But I certainly had some stability problems with apps installed onto storage card.

Most of the time the read/write speed from storage card is sufficient to make the app run well from the storage card.
But because the storage card is controlled by a driver the stability can be a problem. I've heard from several sources that an on the storage card installed program running in the background can cause SoD's.
storage card is better for "storage" as applications use the main board memory better...
hmm ok, ill keep that in mind.
My xperia is randomly shutting down by itself for no reason, so Im wondering if thats a problem.
Ill just have it in my pocket and when I press the power button, instead of coming out of standby, it actually starts up.
Sometimes too when it starts up and it shows the sony ericsson screen it will just shut off there too.
Generally I recommend you the following: Don't install system relevant programs onto your storage card. By system relevant I mean all programs that are autostarted or otherwise associated with the os. For example today plugins, programs that replace certain native applictations like messaging etc, task managers...
By following those rules I have no problems at all with unstable applications.
when in suspended mode sd interface is turned off so programs running from there will not run
Hello,
I'm using the latest Google Maps version on my Nexus One. I regularly get a message saying "Memory is Low, Traffic is disabled".
This is quite odd because I quickly go into my memory manager and see that in this case (and 2 others since Sunday), there are about 210 MB of RAM available.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I'm seeing the same thing on my Evo running cyanogenmod 6.0. Sometimes it happens at all zoom levels, sometimes not all for several days. I can't pin it down. Restarting doesn't seem to help either, & I have the maps update from several days ago installed. I haven't tried flashing back to a Sense ROM, though.
I haven't seen much talk of the problem on google looking back several months.
Setting the VM heap size back to 24m fixed this for me on my N1 running CM6 final.
It's in Settings > CyanogenMod Settings > Performance Settings.
Thanks, dlee. I reduced the heap size from 32 & rebooted, but I still have the problem. Traffic is almost unusable. It will sometimes be ok for a minute, but once it happens the first time, it then happens again within seconds. I haven't tried flashing a nightly since I don't want to worry about backing up and redoing settings. I don't recall ever seeing this on a sense ROM, but I updated my google maps around the time I installed CM6. I'll try flashing back and checking again.
UPDATE: Same thing running Vaelpak sense ROM. Turning on the terrain layer seems to make it happen more quickly.
Let's start with some basic information. I am running not rooted stock Froyo 2.2.1, Baseband version I9000XXJPY, Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1, Build number FROYO.XXJPY. Using stock TW Launcher.
In the morning I've moved couple of apps to SD card. Few hours later my battery went flat and the phone turned off. I've replaced the battery with a fully charged one and the phone was booting quite a while and when it finished it started with locale setting screen. At the same time several apps started to force close unexpectedly. When I went through all the initial settings the wallpaper was the same, icons and widget layout was the same. There were many apps missing (I reckon all of them were installed on the SD card). Many apps that remained were either force closing just after starting or had the settings reverted to defaults.
Some examples:
- Android Agenda widget was in its place but settings missing.
- I've reinstalled TwittCaster and moved to Phone - although it looks like the data/settings are being wiped after every phone restart and I need to put my login details every time.
It looks like many of the apps are reverting settings to default every time I restart the phone.
Both my external and internal cards seems fine, I can access and open files (e.g. photos and music) on them.
When I was trying to install some apps from the Market I was getting error messages that the app cannot be installed in the chosen destination, or there is not enough space. But after few tries I've managed to install them. As far as I know there should be quite a lot of available space.
I've tried to unmount/mount external card, take it out and in again. I've formatted cache partition from recovery mode. I've tried to clear RAM with Task Manager.
I would be grateful if someone could help me to diagnose the reason behind all this, help me to fix it and prevent it from happening in future. I really want to understand the problem and the trigger so I can avoid similar problems in the future
I will appreciate any help.
Thanks!
Sorry to bump, but this is really driving me mad.
It appears that I need to reinstall every app as they all closing unexpectedly on starting. after I reinstall them they loosing settings every time I restart the phone. Is it an external or internal card issue or maybe internal memory? Please help!
I have also noticed that Android Market is quite slow on me. Muc, much slower then before it ask happened.

sounds like hardware failure to me. Its back to factory and exhibiting problems. Why not take it back and have it replaced/fixed?

Strange problem this...
I guess format, reflash and clean install of apps would be a better option... instead of just re-installing apps...
I just wish to avoid sending it for a repair. This is a new replacement I get several days ago from Samsung, for which I was fighting for 4 months.
Anyway I will try to format and reset everything and build everything up from scratch. But if only I could understand how and why it happened maybe I would be able to prevent it from happening in the future.
Is there a special way I can format sd cards before installing and moving apis there?

Hi guys,
I just came from CM7 to this CM6 by Milaq. Love it, everything is much faster, always enough RAM.
I did 3 wipes, flashed ROM through OpenRecovery, reboot, flash gapps for HDPI, reboot, and then restored some apps with titanium backup.
I'm having some issues, I'll list them in order of how much they're bothering me:
1) A bunch of system apps aren't showing up in the market and therefore aren't getting updated. Ex. Facebook, youtube, twitter, etc. What do I do and why did this happen?
2) Titanium backup seems to fail at restoring data for a lot of apps (ex. Shazam, LauncherPro, ColorNote, etc). At the very least I want my Shazam tags back. It doesn't say it fails, it says it's successful but once you open the app, the data isn't there. Interestingly enough, the data IS there in /data/data, at this point basically just taking up space. Now I'm wondering how many apps it restored data to which the data just sits there, useless.
3) The custom LED blink frequency in HandcentSMS just broke. It was working fine until I turned the CM setting "succession" on, and then off. Basically now the LED either blinks as it wants to (no matter what setting), or will stay on if I choose the "Default" setting OR a custom setting with 0 for the "off time."
HELP please?!?
I have had similar problems with market some time ago once switched from CM7 to CM6. I did several cleanups of the marked data and even full wipe plus SD card cleanup (there are some system folders) and suddenly it helped. Can't confirm what are the correct steps to recover from the problem ...
Additionaly had an impression the Google backup is causing some troubles so disabled it.
Edit:
The led blinking is controled by some hardware device so either you can't change the frequency OR apps controls the led by itself using main CPU, which costs extra battery ...
I stay with apps settings only and not change anything by CM settings and works fine. Every time have beeing playing with CM led settings ends up with some mess I could not recover from.

1) is solved: I fixed the market by rolling back to the old market that is included with gapps. I forgot to write that I had updated to the new one (provided by Milaq though so I thought it'd be fine). All apps are seen now.
3) As for the LED, I know what you mean, as soon as you touch CM settings it gets messed up!!! How can I reset the CM settings? Tried data wipe through titanium backup on CM settings but it didn't do a thing... This is gonna bother me to no end.
EDIT: I somehow managed to find this thread: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/18051-solid-led-notifications/
Going to CM settings, selecting Succession and then clicking cancel at the dialog box seems to have brought the blinking frequency function back to handcent. Although...it's kind of buggy, doesn't alway blink properly. But at least some change is visible now. Does your led listen perfectly to on and off times?

Has anyone updated to marshmallow? I recently did and noticed several features I often used gone...first the power saving mode is changed and does not turn your screen grey anymore to save battery life. Also I often used power saving mode when I wanted to quickly charge my phone (this would charge the phone much faster than not having it on)and this feature is also gone bc the phone will not allow you to use power save and [email protected] time! Another feature gone is being able to quickly preview a text in the notifications bar without going to the text. However the greatest issue is that all my music and video files have to be opened individually instead of being in a large list...Also I cannot use the app but have to go thru the sd card folder topopen each file one by one I'm using the stock Samsung video player and music player...is there a way to fix this it has to be an issue with marshmallow bc I've tried 4 different sd cards and it worked fine before the update to mm..? .if anyone can help please lmk

MM is one of the best update which s5 received.
Yes greyscale power saving mode is gone
Stock Video player & music player is working fine on my device
Try clearing cache and data for both app
And try if it works out for you
I have greyscale power saving mode on mm.
Tapatalk S5
okti : how do u have it? Whenever I do power saving mode it stays in color plus you can no longer charge while in power saving mode...This helped me charge my phone super fast compared to color mode...
yash92duster: Clearing the cache and data did nothing...I still cannot access my music or videos that are on my SD card through the stock samsung music/video player...The only damn music/video files I can access are the ones that are on the phones storage but not the SD card!!!? Can someone help as to why this is happening?

Greyscale
Go to developer options , click simulate color space and select Monochromacy. It will give you the grey scale you looking for. But not sure how much power saving that will give.
I dont know about you but for me it`s worst. I`m on official software(dbt-germany G900FXXU1CPEM), updated via ota system update. It looks the same as 5.0 but it says it`s 6.0.1. .I get ~1-1.5 hours of screen time (on 5.0 i had ~3 hours). If i use the phone for more than 3 minutes it gets hot, never happend on 5.0. Except for the new animations and icons it`s nothing new for me. Even the notifications panel looks like old 5.0(with green icons not white like in 6.0.1.). Also battery is charging a little slower, it took 1.5 hours to get from 30% to 100%.

There are many S7 edge ported roms for S5 G900F
try them
It makes the device better than stock
My biggest issue is the Battery Life. It is fluid-smooth esp. with games, but at the expense of sucking every bit of battery. Tried a lot of Marshmallow Firmwares from many regions but all have this issue with the battery life. I hope Samsung fix this.

Don't know if this will be any help, but personally speaking I DO NOT update by way of OTA's. I had a bad experience with my S2 Skyrocket (that I still have) and ever since I flash stock firmware thru Odin, but only after I install a custom recovery and do a data, cache and system format. I presently use a G900M (Latin America.) I just updated to MM from KK about 4 days ago, CWM recovery installed, rooted, debloated, Xposed installed, and I must say my device is running quite fine.
