G5s plus unlock bootloader without voiding warranty - Moto G5S Plus Questions & Answers

Hey Guys!
I have been doing some research into decoding the key generation process. And i think I can crack it with your support.
It would be great if you guys can share your unlock data and the key you got from motorola.
So that it can help people unlock boot loader without voiding their warranty.
So it's a humble request for those of you who have already unlocked their bootloader to share their info.
Message back please!

Once you unlock bootloader, your warranty is void automatically. Even if you lock it again, it is already tampered as unlocked. Afaik, code is device specific.

Sending back GSM Dev edition with unlocked boot loader

I'm going to return my dev edition moto x. Do I have to go through the process of relocking the boot loader or will they accept the return with the boot loader unlocked? I'm curious if anyone has tried this?

Re-Locking the BL won't do any good. They will know without a doubt that you had unlocked previously, since once re-locked, the status can never be changed back to "LOCKED", but only "RE-LOCKED".
Word is that they will honor the warranty on the DEV edition regardless of whether or not you have unlocked.
Additionally, some individuals have reported that Moto honored the warranty on their *non-DEV* editions, even though they unlocked the BL - even though the terms seem to suggest this voids your warranty. I'm certainly not saying that they absolutley will honor it for a non-DEV edition, but the word is that they are honoring the warranty anyways.
The documentation seems to suggest that unlocking an actual DEV edition does not affect the warranty process whatsoever.
Good Luck :good:
I appreciate the reply. I'll give it a shot and see what happens.
Moto's policy for Developer Editions is... Unlocking the bootloader does NOT void the warranty. So there should be no fear of returning it unlocked.
I would just make sure you have flashed to a stock rom and factory reset the device to ensure its a hardware problem before you send it.

relock bootloader

Sorry for the question....i've an xt1052 with stock 4.4.4 and i would root it....i'd want know if there is a way to relock the bootloader and restore the warranty?
Even if you could, you still wouldn't get your warranty back. When you unlock your bootloader through moto's website, your IMEI is sent to them and they know that you've unlocked the BL and your warranty is now void.
Also, relocking the bootloader will give you a "relocked" status. Not locked. So they know anyway.

If you purchased the developer edition, the warranty isn't voided by unlocking...

The xt1052 isn't the developer edition.

There are 3 states for the Moto X bootloader.
1. Locked Status Code 0 (as it ships from the factory)
2. Unlocked Status Code 3 (when the bootloader is unlocked)
3. Locked Status Code 2 (aka RELOCKED, after you use fastboot oem lock)
If the status is Unlocked or Relocked, you'll get the unlocked bootloader warning at boot up. And we do not have a way to toggle back to LOCKED Status Code: 0.
No matter how you unlock your bootloader (Moto Web site, China Middleman, Sunshine app), if your status code is 3 or 2 (unlocked or relocked), then your warranty is void should Moto or your warranty provider see it.
If you got your bootloader unlock code from Moto's web site directly, the official way to unlock, then they likely also have record in their database that your warranty is void.
Some states or countries may have laws that prevent denying the warranty coverage when the claimed failure is not related to unlocking the bootloader (like micro usb port no longer works to charge.)
And for others who may come across this thread... Unlocking the bootloader on a real Dev Edition X does NOT void the warranty. The OP has an XT1052 which is likely a European X, and is not a Dev Edition.
Thanks for the informations :good:
This is really lame from Motorola, I come from a Samsung Galaxy Nexus where this didn't happen..

The X is no Nexus, nor was it supposed to be.
All current "non-Nexus" Samsung phones have a Knox Warranty flag.

[Q] Root with locked bootloader

Hello xda,
so I killed my EFS Partition on my last Moto X and had to send it in. That cost me 100€ but I got a new phone, with a locked bootloader. I confirmed this with 2 Motorola Chat Supports, but if you unlock your bootloader, they wont honor their warranty, even if its a hardware problem that was there from the beginning. So I'm kind of scared to unlock the bootloader again, but I really want root. Is there any way to root without unlocking? Thanks in advance !

Your warranty will be lost with or without Huawei ID

Sure but what Huawei does'nt know..
And you could lock the Bootloader in case of a warranty defect...
As far as I know when you requested the bootloader unlock code - there is no way to return...
Well, requesting the code doesn't mean that you actually applied it. So if you send in your phone with a locked bootloader for repair, you should be fine.
Yea coming from LG G4 and we had to request an unlock.bin from them to flash. Requesting the unlock won't void warranty, I'm guessing it is the same as LG where it will have a "Bootloader Unlocked" message on splash screen once unlock.bin is applied.
To those of you who have unlocked, is this the case, and I have read somewhere you can relock bootloader too. Does this then have a "bootloader relocked" message or anything? Or is it if it is locked you can't tell it was ever unlocked?

Yes, I successfully relocked and do not receive any warnings during boot. I don't know about Huaweis, but Sony Xperias that had been unlocked and relocked have a modified TA partition and can therefore be identified.
Ok would be nice if anyone can confirm that it is possible to relock the bootloader in case of warranty ?
Thanks guys!
Is there anyway too unlock de bootloader now that huawei stop giving the code??
