Hi,
I just tried to read an exFAT formatted microSD card via OTG (with a SD card converter and then a USB card reader) but fail.
When I did some search, I heard from other people that Note 8 can read exFAT format, but mostly they are referring to if I put the microSD card to one of the sim card slot.
However for my case, I don't want to put it there, since the microSD card that I want to access is from my Mavic Air, which I want to copy those 4K video and RAW photos to my phone directly. It is too troublesome if I need to remove the sim card slot, put it in, copy and then pull it out again...
So is there really no way that Note 8 can read exFAT microSD card via the OTG way?
Many thanks for any help that can be offered.

Help,
After i flashed my KAISER i have a problem. The sd card is not recognised anymore. Is there a solution for this problem?
I hope so, otherwise i have a brick
Storage card problem
I always used a 4 gig card, just tried an 512 mb card, and that one was recognised. Strange isn't it?
First, which method did you use to flash your new ROM?
If you used the USB method to flash your new ROM, did you remove your SD card during the flash process?
If you used the SD card method to flash your new ROM, did you do a hard reset with your SD card inserted?
Second, do you have an SD card reader for your computer? I would probably try to verify that the file system and data are intact on your SD card. If you have an SD card reader, you can also use it to reformat your card.
If none of this is helpful, provide some more information to fill in the gap between your microSD card working properly and not showing up on your phone.
Re
I flashed to TPCV5.1 full today. No sd in my phone.
My cars reader in the computer doesn't recognise the sd card either.
Strange thing is , when i use an other 4 gig sd card, the phone still doesn't recognise it, my card reader on my computer does, so why not on my phone.
I had a 2 gig sd card, and put all the data again on it, and it's working.
Stilli have a problem that my phone won't recognise a 4 gig sd card.
So far my story.
Does seem odd. What file system is your 4GB card formatted with? If it shows up as "RAW" or anything, I would definately format it to FAT32.
Edit: I was referring to your "other" 4GB card. I don't think I have any advice for the original one.
I wanted to ask before I did it. If I transfer all my data that is on my 4gig card to my 8gig card and switched it out would it be fine? I have a lot of back up files and stuff on my 4gig, but doesn't the new card have to be formatted before you can use it? Sorry, I'm real stupid when it comes to external storage.
Thanks,
Alex
It does have to be formatted as a fat32 drive, which you can do in Windows.
I did the same thing though (transferring from one card to another) and it worked fine.

Cool, Thanks.
You're gonna be just fine transferring content from a 4GB to an 8GB SD. Just watch out for potential hidden files that might not get copied in the process. Usually they are either temporary or cache files that will get regenerated when you use the new SD for the first time.
When I put my card in the card reader my computer doesn't find it, then I put it back in my phone and it's fine. What could be the issue? Would a PNY micro sd adapter work with a sandisk micro sd card?
Well, I found out it was my card reader. It wouldn't detect anything over 2gigs. That's odd, but I got it to work at home. Thanks for all the help.
Hi all. I just got a new X1 a few days ago. Pretty happy to have it, however, I'm having chronic problems flashing a rom on it using the micro SD method. I have a PNY Micro SD card, and after hard spl-ling my phone, I put a rom on the micro SD card in the root, renamed it to KOVSIMG.nbh, powered the phone off. Removed the battery and micro SD, reinserted everything, and when I powered it back up, I got the tri-colored screen, then it said no image file. For some reason, this PNY card isn't being recognized by my computer, so I can't reformat it with my computer. Can somebody please either tell me how to format the card on my X1 or direct me to the most current and reliable USB method thread please. Thanks.
[A] Micro SD Flashing method won't work
Hi x1-pc7,
try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787867
In Summary,
try to copy all your microsd contents somewhere else temporarily. e.g. your pc desk top
FORMAT you SD card as FAT or FAT32.
try the micro SD method.
sorry, i mis-read your post, you knew all that above...
To format your sd micro card, you would need a card reader to format your sd card.
card reader that handles the microsd, or put the micro sd into a sd card adapter, usually provided with the microsd card, and put this into a sd card reader.
Hope this helps!!
Have a Happy New Year!!

Listen. I said that my micro SD does not get recognized by my computer. I have an adapter, but my computer won't recognize it. Read the whole post, and please show me where it talks about how to use the USB method to flash because the micro SD method will absolutely not work for me.
Thanks.
Happy New Year to you too.
usb method is simple
just turn device off.push the volume bottom in(& keep it in) then push power & keep both in until bootloader screen appears.then connect to usb.run Xperia Software Upgrade...Done!

You could try to change your USB to PC setting to "Disk Drive" (Start » Settings » Connections). This way your phone will only show your microSD card instead of both internal memory and SD contents.
See if that enables you to format your SD card.

Not even without the X1, i.e. when using only your adapter?
Sounds like either the card or the adapter is broken - any chance to cross-check with another card/another PC?
Make sure your adapter can handle the card: (µ)SDHC cannot be read by older (µ)SD adapters....

Are you trying to flash your phone? If you do, have you copy the new ROM to the SD card? (in root, not in any folder) And rename the ROM to "KOVSimg.nbh"
Then the boot loader mode will detect the ROM and show instructions.
However, if you're not trying to flash your phone, you don't need to enter the boot loader mode. Just do battery pull, and start your phone normally.
not dev related, therefore moved to q&a
Hi all.
I download torrent all the time. Especially games
The problem is, most game are + 10gb
And my ext.SD is fat32 same as everyone
And fat32 don't have the ability to handle more than 4gb per file
I want a way to chang it and able to read it..
Plz step by step, iam very noob in this think
If anyone could make a software or guide how to do it it will be very nice
Thanks in advance and have a greet day
Sorry for my bad English
You're better off formatting to exFAT, which is specifically designed for flash NAND memory and USB "Keys".
It removes the silly encryption that NTFS provides, giving a performance boost for things like writing to the card itself.
You can do this easily in Windows. Insert the Micro SD card into a reader that the computer can read. You can buy USB - Micro SD readers for around $10 off of EBay. Then, right click, format, and select exFAT from the drop down list.
THIS WILL ERASE ALL CONTENTS OF THE MICRO SD CARD
THIS WILL ERASE ALL CONTENTS OF THE MICRO SD CARD
THIS WILL ERASE ALL CONTENTS OF THE MICRO SD CARD
THIS WILL ERASE ALL CONTENTS OF THE MICRO SD CARD
THIS WILL ERASE ALL CONTENTS OF THE MICRO SD CARD
Once that's done, re-insert it into your device, and all is well.
Thanks alot. You made my day ^…^
Thumb up ?
Hi guys,
Ive already spend days of google and even brought my old laptop from the storage room to format my newly purchased sandisk 128gb micro sd card. Its not recognized by the modified tablet running 14.1 chalagwifi(?). So stock android has the option to format the sd card, but is there a way i can do that within lineageos? Under storage my sd card is not listed...I have tried to format it from my laptop to exfat but still not recognized... From google results the sd card should be compatible with the tab - so any one has an solution?
Best regards.
HI
The mount point for the SD card is not under "/storage" but "/mnt/media_rw/" witch can cause problem with most of media reader (Like Mk player)
you can see your Sd card with an explorer like "ES explorer" and read a video with google video but not with Mx Player
i expect it can help you. i'm searcing in formums a way to change the mount point of the sd card
Note : i have a 128 go sd card formatted in NTFS and it work well
