One week and I am going in for an exchange. Phone stopped charging the other day. If I fiddle around with the usb plug, sometimes it will light the screen up and start charging but stops as soon as I let go of the plug. The inside of the connector looks a little loose and not straight so its not making good contact. This sucks too cause I just paid to get this one unlocked.
so pretty much we had a blackout on campus and my phone was low on battery. to salvage my laptop's battery, i used the USB charger on the phone while the laptop was closed and barely even booted up (did not "log in" to windows). so, later in the night my battery went dead, and i'm sure my turning it on and off 15 times with a empty battery just to see the home screen did not help.
next day, I plug in the charger and get the RED LIGHT!!!
i give the phone "CPR" and plug it back in the charger to get an amber light a few minutes later. The phone eventually charged to 30% before i took it out with me to lunch, when I got back I plugged it back in and now it would would not charge at all. the battery % would just gradually decrease.
i tried cleaning the battery connections with alcohol and im pretty sure this made the sticker turn pink (means "water damage"), and att wont give mea new one because of this.
anything i can do?
PS- i never got the red light back since i "fixed" it the first time, now i need to plug it in to turn the phone on and even then it turns off after 2-4 minutes by itself!!! If plugged into wall charger without a battery i just get a red flashing light. with batter, a constant amber.
Take it into a store and try swapping out the battery temporarily with one from the one in the store - if it works then purchase a new battery?
UPDATE
not an option, dont have any stores by me and have no car .
***update - i did use the usb charge trick but splitting the wires and connecting to the battery for 5 or so minutes.. it got up to 17% but is now going back down even though its plugged into the wall charger
Did they ask you if the sticker was pink? Did you yell at a manager or something. Just because the sticker is that color doesn't mean there is damage.
If the sticker is not the default color, they won't warranty the phone. That's just how it is. Someone might get lucky and they do it anyway, but in general that's their policy.
Why else would the plaster the stupid things in 6+ places in/on the phone?
I still don't buy the "I got it wet cleaning the contacts" part myself. But the overall story seems unfortunately common for the Kaiser (other phones too?) with it deciding to die after the battery gets too low. Most people have decided it's not the battery that fails and even if they get the phone to charge, it does not work properly afterwords.
I think HTC should take some responsibility here.
OK, I finally got to try a seperate battery and the charger still would not charge the battery (the charger used was also a new one). What can I do!? Should I buy a parted one from ebay and replace something?

is that possible, something anyone could do themselves?

wow, i hope it is not that!
anyone else have suggestions on how to fix my kaiser?
-better yet, any successful repairs of this? thanks!
this is old and all, but i finally now have another kaiser to fool around and part out.. any suggestions?
well first off if there is truely water damage and not just a freek bricking then i would try the rice trick first, simply place the phone on a box of rice for a week (or silica gel). not u can not reflash the device because u can not get a 50% charge correct? it almost sounds if the battery is dieing that quickly that u have a short somewhere in the phone cuasing the displacment of energy, also i know that i had a phone a while back (not an htc) but it would only take a charge from a car charger, so try possible expermenting with USB/WALL/CAR chargers. if i were u i probably wouldnt take the phone completely apart unless u are sure that neither the original or the parts phone can be used as anything more than a paper weight.
on an un-related subject if ur looking for a replacment i have a tilt i am looking to sell if u want to pm me we could negotiate a price.
thanks for the reply, i ended up leaving it in the wall charger overnight, and if charged up to 17%, so it is working, i'll try other methods as well.
if it bombs, i'm sure you'll be receiving a pm very soon!

I've cleaned the battery terminals and spring contacts many times on my TyTN II and not had this problem since. The key is to use a cotton bud sprayed with contact cleaner/IPA to rub the contact cleaner on/off and not spray it around the area directly. If a cotton bud isn't used as well as the contact cleaner/IPA then much of the grime wont be cleaned off. This still sounds like a conductivity issue to me.
still not clear what you think happened...
in any case, using a FULLY CHARGED BATTERY (charge it using something else, or just jimmy rig to the battery terminals for a while), does the Tilt function properly ? If so, then the most it can be is the charging circuit of the Tilt. Worse case, get one of those charging cradles and charge your battery on that instead (a pain, but cheaper than replacing a Tilt)...
in other words, I wouldn't give up just yet, given what it sounds like has happened...
does the tilt function when plugged into a powered USB port ?
I have an hd7 tmous, and this problem has persisted on the original rom, and the official nodo, both locked and unlocked. Phone will work fine, run it all day, then while I'm at work, phone in my back pocket, it won't wake up with any button, and I have to pull the battery. Only when its in my back pocket. Sometimes takes 5 minutes, sometimes a few hours. Front pocket takes more time. Any ideas? I thought about trying another radio. I have search xda and the net and can't find a solution. Got it used and have no warranty. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Also, on my days off, and the phone never goes in my pocket, no freezing. How odd. Sometimes its really warm, almost hot.....
I've had a similar problem but only when its been on charge a few hours. the lil green battery light stays lit but the phone wont respond unless I do a battery pull
Hmmm. Now that you mention it, every time it has done it, it was about 80+ % charged. Never done it on half charge. The green led that you mentioned doesn't behave as you said, but you gave me an idea- battery maybe? Gets hot, only does it when mostly charged, it makes sense.
I recreated the problem. Putting a fair amount of pressure on the bottom of the phone, just below the battery cover causes the screen to dim, keeps dimming, then the phone is off. Seems like a short. Gonna take it apart when I get home. Fun times, lmao.
SOLVED
I was right, it was a short. After a little process of elimination, I narrowed it down to the protector shield/heat sink that the SIM card/sd card cluster rest on. I pushed on the SIM card bracket, and it dies. I unplugged the cluster, left it on, same result. Removed the cluster and the shield it is stuck to (by adhesive), and it didn't die. Increased the pressure until my screen made funny colors, still didn't die. There is a heat sink pad and some amber "tape" that are on the underside of the shield, centralized around the CPU. The area I pressed on was on the opposite side of the cluster though. And, oddly, there was no protective amber "tape" on that area. I cut a piece of clear packing tape, made it just the right size to cover the area, and not overlap the amber side. I put the shield back together and the problem is gone. Turns out that when my phone was in my back pocket and I bent down for something, it would put pressure on the bottom of my phone and short it out. Considering the area of the short, I feel very lucky that my phone is still kicking. I am posting this to help anyone who might have a similar problem. I hope this helps. Easy to take apart, unlike the hd2
Thanks, xda, for without you and your awesome gathering of people, i would be lost...... And bored.
Need advice Bad/fast. I'm on call at work and dropped phone about one storey and glass broke. I have a spare for for rooting with not sound.
replace screen using the thread here and a you tube video. All went smooth and booted with no screen issues. The issue is the battery bar shows a red "?" and won't charge. I had on charger all day in my work truck and was very slowly losing power. Then went to Bar for some Budweiser and went from around 65% to 0% in about 1 hr and not using /screen off.
check the battery connection make sure the screws are tight and the ribbon looks good.
Thanks for reply final sat down with good light and checked and looked good and tight.
just removed all screws and reset them all T5 blacks and jsut plugged into wall charger and about 3 minutes later it kicked on.
Oh and now getting a charge light.
Weird I'm a Service(Gas) station POS Tech "Point Of Sale" and as a rule. Start with the easy, obvious things first.
I was wondering if anybody knows of a battery case that doesn't plug into the phone itself and make the phone longer?
I'm looking for a battery case that not only has wireless charging capabilities but also just charges the phone wireless-ly when you switch it on. I mean it's already touching the back of the phone so why not just put the coil right there? Of course, this may be inefficient and there may be heat issues, but just wondering if anyone has seen a case out there that is like this?
I don't know if such thing exists or doesn't make sense with todays tech but I think it would be cool.
I haven't seen one and I have looked at everything on amazon trying to find something that I like. I generally do not use a case on my phone, but I have been looking for a battery case for conventions / traveling. Funny thing is I do not mind the section on the bottom that makes it longer. If I could get a small simple case that had that extended bottom that forced the speaker to face forward I would get it. I hate how the speaker faces down.
