Unable to find Clear Storage option in Device Care. - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hello. I am using Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Exynos Variant running Android 10 One UI 2.0.
I cannot find the clear storage option in device care. It was there in Android 9.
After updating to Android 10 I have done full factory reset.
Cleared the cache and data of device care but still it's not there.
Is this an error or Samsung just removed it???
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Screenshot attached.
Thanks.

It's been removed as it sent data to a 3rd party in china. There's literally no reason you'd need to use the feature anyway...

I like a junk file remover. Yes I know it should clean out on its own. Still like gaining back the 2-3GB of wasted space even if I don't need it. I don't keep junk mail for weeks or months why should I keep it in my phone is my reason.

I sort of get that although I've literally never needed to clean up 2-3GB on my phone in the last 6+ years. But a junk remover that sends your data to a spyware company in china? No one needs that, even Samsung finally agrees.

I have a tendency to over research things (Asperger's) and cache files can grow quickly in short order. I also use my phone as my main device so I spend more time on it then most. I think I also have anxiety over having enough storage for all the movies and shows I buy. Which is probably what drove me to get the 512GB edition and then slap 128GB SD in as well.

stolen...

Today is my saddest day, my perfectly good shape (no cracking screens..etc) Nexus 7 16GB stolen at Liberty Since Center Museum, in Jersey City, NJ.:crying:
I was at second floor sitting at table at cafeteria , and then step out for a few mins to watch out my 3 year old girl. I was worry about my daughter who was running on the floor, so I jump and run behind here, I completely forget my small backup on the chair I was sitting...when I realized it, I grabbed my little girl, and rush back to the table where I was sitting, but it was gone, couple of waiters cleaning the tables, and I asked them if they saw a small green back pack, they said yes..they brought my back bag, and when I checked, my Nexus 7 gone!!!
I told them where's my tablet to two waiters now standing next to me, they said they know nothing about my tablet, they said they saw the bag and thought it was forgetten, and took it back and put it here inside. They asked me to talk to office/info desk in the Museum, so I went there and told them what happened and I said I know I am pretty sure one of the waiters took the tablet and demanded that there must be some security camera or something. they said there's none in the cafeteria area.
We are talking about max 10-15 min here, I know it was museum closing time and it was only me sitting on the table in the cafeteria, and waiters cleaning the tables...that's the time all happened, so I am quite sure one of them took it out.
I did not have any remote security app installed...so I cannot remotely wipe my stolen N7, but I changed my gmail account password using my phone, and when I get home, change all other password I can think of (amazon, box, etc)...I also went to Google wallet and disable N7 device, I also deleted my google account credit card as well.
I am not sure what else I can do without any security apps installed, I did probably best I could at this point (chaining the password..etc). Drop me a line if you have any other ideas that I can do.
I am not sure how much this would help, but hoping they cannot get my account info or do anything about it. I am quietly regret that I did not install any security apps on my N7. I am also quite sad that I lost my beloved Nexus 7!!:crying:
so I was sad, holding my 3 year old girl, went thru steps and front door to meet my wife. When my wife saw my face, she said what happened..I said my nexus 7 stolen...she knew that I loved my N7, so she did not say anything, tried to cheer me up..but did not work...
:crying:
This is one of the reasons why it's so important to have a remote security app. The usefulness on wifi-only devices is a bit lacking, since your ability to control it remotely without having it online makes it difficult to use a lot of the functionality. But on the 3G model especially, it allows you to track/wipe/etc. it if necessary. You can also make it sound an alarm, which in your case could have tracked it to where it was if it was still in the building (ie: in the employee lockers or storage area).
I highly recommend Cerberus. It's a great app and does everything you can want. You can also install it in the ROM, so even if the thief wipes the device, you can still remotely access it and track down who stole it (unless they do a full system flash).
Contact Google and report it stolen.THey can wipe and disable the device as soon as it comes online.
This is why every Android user should install Cerberus immediately. The app is only $4 (after the first free week) and will allow you to use it on up to 5 devices (so less than $1 per device). Cerberus is amazing & has an insane amount of recovery/tracking methods, and can even survive through a wipe. Makes me sad more people don't use it...

if I only I knew....I was aware of security apps, in fact I had one lockout app installed, but after I was dealing with 4.2 upgrade, I did fresh re-install stock ROM, so forgot to install lockout app (not sure if it is really as effective as Cerberus though)...too many lessons learnt today
James-NC, thanks for the info. I called Google's Nexus support phone# 1-855-83-NEXUS (63987)., but could not able to get thru, waited on the phone over 40 mins...I will try tomorrow morning see if I get hold someone.....
I did know Google can wipe and disable the devices...

U should of accused them of taking it , you should have cause a scene big enuf to allow the cops to be called and them inform them when they arrive that one of them stole it. Or you coulda done it the old fashion way and kicked some ass .....never play nice with suspected thieves ....

if your SURE you was the only one in the area except the waiters i woulda really .....really caused more then a scene, i can see your situation thou especially since you had your child present. :good:
did you leave wifi switched on? or bluetooth?
if so go back and quickly use bluetooth to search for your device name
or use "wifikill" connect to the wifi in the area you woulda been using, wifikill will then show you all devices connected tho that wifi point, you would then see if your device is still in the area "hidden under the counter"
Don't mean to sound bad, but I purchased Cerebrus and after a few weeks of leaving it dormant (not needed most of the time?) I realised that it had started sending messages to my contacts.
How do I know it was Cerebrus? BECAUSE THE TEXTS IT WERE SENDING WAS MY LOCATION AND MAP CO-ORDINATES !!!!

But it was just doing it by itself, I even forgot I had Cerberus.
My phones networks kept turning themselves off and on, then contacts kept getting sent maps of where I was.
Un-installed Cerberus and Deleted the accounts on website, the issues stopped.
WHY? WHY DOES CERBERUS MESS MY PHONE UP !?

because user error. its an option in the program..
Shame you have changed your Google password.
Otherwise could have done a remote install of Lookout Plan B (search on market)
Then tracked the tablet yourself!

Really sorry to hear about your device, but even ten minutes is a really long time. I wouldn't leave anything of value unattended for more than 10-15 seconds.
I've had Cerebus installed on two phones and three tablets. Never had any issues with contacts randomly getting text messages of my location. I'm calling user error.

I disagree.
If it was a random person walking by who spotted the device and took it, they would high-tale it out of the area, making any BT/Wi-Fi tracking impossible anyway. But odds are, the first thing they're going to do with it after they get to a safe location is play with it and see if they can get access to it. Sure if they were smart they might realize it is safer to turn if off and reflash it when they get home, but honestly, what are the odds of the thief being that smart?
If it was a waiter, as the OP assumes, they're going to try and hide it ASAP. It's unlikely they are going to walk out of the building, at least not too far. So that leaves a few random hiding spots around the immediate vicinity. They aren't going to take the time and inspect the device, let alone try and figure out how to turn it off. They wouldn't want to be seen by anyone with it in their possession. Odds are, they grabbed it, hid it with something they were carrying or in their apron (if applicable) and stashed it for later. And if that was the case, and if it was online (highly unlikely for the non-3G unit, then recovery would be possible.
As a prime example of stupidity regarding thieves and tablets, look at the TSA agent who was just caught stealing a planted iPad. A local news crew had incidents staged where 5-10 iPads were accidentally left by travelers in an airport. All but one were promptly returned to the "owner". But one guy, on camera, snatched it. They put a GPS tracker in it, and traced it to the agents home. For a week they waited, and they saw it go online, apps attempted to be downloaded/installed (on the owner's account) and just played with in general. Finally, the news crew arrived and questioned him about it - which he of course denied. Until that is when they set off a remote alarm siren. He made up some excuse and returned it. Fortunately, and surprisingly for the government, he lost his job.
So no, thieves are usually quite stupid.

Questions before upgrading missus to Lollipop

Hey all,
Just a couple a quick ones...
1) Generally how is Lollipop on this phone - worth the jump from KK?? My missus only uses the very basics of any phone she has but the geek in me is trying to keep her uptodate!
2)Will it fully wipe the phone when upgrading?? (Im presuming yes, but when i did a wipe on my M7 it kept the apps - What goes/stays on this phone with the upgrade??
Cheers for any and all help! :good:

My wife hates when I fiddle with her phone, so for me it isn't worth it. The only way I'll fiddle with it now is if she is having a problem. While I am at it will update it and do maintenance on it, remove apps she doesn't use generally clean it out. I find lollipop to be a much cleaner interface and easier for the average joe to use, so it might be worth it in that instance.
I'm unsure whether the OTA will wipe the system, I would assume so because you are flashing an entirely different architecture (Lollipop uses ART as opposed to Dalvik) but I can't be sure. The only times I have ever done it I have done a clean flash myself and not waited for the OTA
Just remember the wife trumps everything. If I do anything to my wife's phone I go into the bathroom and lock the door. I might say a little prayer that I won't brick it also. That said, my son-in-law s Motorola updated straight from Kk to 5.01 and he didn't lose his apps. His wasn't this model although I'd think it would be the same.

I know that feeling! Sweat trickling down the back of the neck as the phone boots after flashing her phone... the long wait as those coloured balls fly around the screen and the sigh of relief as the homescreen pops up...
Moto g 2nd gen dual sim upgraded from KK to 5.0.2 3 weeks ago all went well no apps or data lost. You only loose data and apps if you factory reset (which Motorola recommends). I didn't do that, only cleared cache also no data or apps lost.
My suggestion, don't do anything to her phone.
If she sees too many different things, she's gonna get angry. Non technical users just want the thing to work and that's all, and at the same time, they don't want to have to relearn anything more than they already know. So many differences in her phone with lollipop installed will get her upset.

Locked out b/c of Factory Reset Protection (FRP)

Hi guys,
I forgot to reset my phone before flashing a new image (latest Beltz), and triggered FRP. I changed the password, waited over 96 hours, but still got the "sign in with device owner's account" when I try to log in and set it up.
Thinking it's a ROM issue, I flashed Google's official OTA images (6.0.0 and 7.1.1), waited over 72 hours and it still wouldn't allow me to log in. Small change is that on the 7.1.1, I get the "you have to wait 24 hours because of password change" message. I waited over 80 hours and still get the same message.
I can log into my Google account just fine from a browser. I validated all the security notifications to confirm I was the one trying to log in.
When I click "review devices" under the "device activity", I am unable to remove the device (or any other for that matter!).
This is a brand new phone (my 3rd N6). I love this phone so much. Any help would be very much appreciated, as I have been living without a phone for over 2 weeks now.
Thanks,
SFX
I done the same thing you did awhile back. Did you turn off the device and not touch it for 24+ hrs before you attempted to log in? I was without my N6 for about week. I even called Google and they told me to not touch my device for 24hrs and after that time then I could log in. If you have tried what I was talking about, then do that... Also be 100% sure that you are entering the correct Pw.
I'm pretty sure when you change your Google password you have to wait 24hrs before you can factory reset with twrp.
I had the same problem but I could never get back in. The only way I fixed it was to flash a old factory rom before the advent of FRP. 5.0 rom I believe.
Tried the earliest available Factory image (not OTA this time) which turned out to be 6.0, waited a week but still get the silly "24 hours" FRP message. I emailed the Google support three weeks ago, but no answer.
I'm very close to giving up and buying a new phone.
Somehow I doubt it when you write "this is a brand new phone". No new N6 has been produced for several years.
Maybe your phone is actually used, and now needs the previous owner's login.

Use fastboot commands to wipe everything, then fastboot flash new system images. Other than that use Wug's Nexus Toolkit to help you do all that. **** if I had your device in hand I could fix your problem, I am a pro at fixing these issues, personal experience.

You just need to log out of the Google account before you factory reset the phone and that's it.
You can flash stock img after that or do whatever you want.
How about you quit being a troll? His story sounds credible, and you can find any phone that didn't sell like pancakes brand new in many places.
The lack of good faith around here is a severe disappointment. I hated to believe that such a thing is possible myself, which is the reason I stayed without a working phone for over a month (yes, in 2018!). That's how much I love the Nexus 6!
I will admit that I left out a detail from my story for the sake of clarity and brevity (but we're past that now I guess...). I had decided to create a new throwaway Google account when I flashed the latest Beltz (I had random daily reboots which drove me crazy, so I thought about doing a clean slate). For some of you it might be hard to believe, but I had never heard of FRP and didn't think about resetting. Anyway, I might have triggered something strange through a very unlikely sequence of events.
Not to get preachy but this got me thinking about phone ecosystems and how one has little recourse in the face of almighty Google. At least, it's clear that they don't bother answering. It is extremely frustrating not to be able to log into a device you own (and did I mention love?). I just got a OnePlus 6, and it's nice, but no wireless and I have to upgrade all my micro-USB cable with USB-C. That said, it's snappy, has an extra-customizable OS, and a very bright screen. I overcome the awkward aspect ratio by using the pinch-to-fill in YouTube Vance. The earpiece can turn into a speaker using some Magisk module. Apart from that, it's crazy small and the lack of wireless is unforgivable, but I'll admit that it charges very fast.
Frankly, it was a coin toss between another Nexus 6 and the OnePlus 6. The only reason I went for OnePlus is that I wanted to also get the Bullets Wireless headphones (apparently, the magnetic play/pause feature was only OnePlus-compatible for now). Ironically, they're out of stock in my region.
H4X0R46, I don't plan to try the "fastboot format userdata". I did more than enough format userdata through TWRP when I still had hope. If you deem the information important enough, let me know and I can try it. Otherwise, I'll just sell it (for parts I guess) on eBay.
Thanks everyone for trying to help. A lesser thank you to the ones who didn't assume good faith (you're still trying to help out I'm sure!).
Cheers!

Most of the classic phones that are sold as new are in fact refurbished used ones. There is whole cottage industry in refurbishing old phones, and not all sellers are honest about it.

Fair point. But it's mostly a semantics argument as far as our discussion is concerned.
I got my Nexus 6 on Amazon.de where it's advertised as new. I have been using the phone with a newly created Google account since I got it months ago.

Note 9 Bloatware vs Root

I have not been here to XDA developers, my goodness, I think it is something like over 10 years.....it has grown so much...so please forgive me if I put this question in the wrong section.
I jusk picked up a "refurbished" Note 9, unlocked SM-N960U1 for under 400 dollars on Amazon from a company called Kiss of all things. So far, I have been very presently surprised. I can find absolutely no scratches or problems with the phone. The battery capacity is at over 94 percent. Yes, the charger and charging cable I needed to replace but for the money.
Back in the day, as I said a long time ago, I did root phones and install ROMs that I picked up from the Master Chefs here at XDA.
The phone came with "only" 125 gig on it but considering I just put in a 512 gig memory card and that my last phone at something a total of 60 gig that I managed with, I have nothing to complain about.
It has updated to 2.1 Android 10 and the funny thing is that I have had it only a couple of weeks and it does not seem to run as well. Little things have changed.....I cannot resize as easily with pinching.
I am sure there is nothing wrong with the phone hardware. I have a suspician that as is often the case, new is not necessarily better. I have wondered if I should do a factory reset.
In addition, I use all of Google stuff....tasks, calander, contacts, etc. I don't see any reason to keep all of those Samsung apps active. All I have done so far is to force stop them.
This brings me to the question. In order to get rid of the bloatware, is it better to root the phone or use some method to deactivate or remove the bloatware totally if possible.
Any advice regarding to root or not to root would be helpful and if so, the best method. If not, the best method to rid the phone of bloatware.
Use ADB to remove pre-installed apps you don't want. This way you still get official updates and stuff like Samsung pay and secure folder work fine.

You sound like me... I am an old hand at rooting Samsung devices. But. Last one I did was a Note 5 and things have changed a lot. Worst news? Your model is not currently rootable. A few other models of the Note 9 are. It is confusing and once I sorted out for myself i went back and exchanged my N960U1 for an N9600 international unlocked version. It is on the way to being rooted... but that's another story. If you can return your phone and get either an Exynos or N9600, that's the only way to get root.

Question Constant app/system crashes on Galaxy S21 Ultra

My Galaxy s21 has been crashing constantly for about a day now. I thought maybe it was just an app or something causing the issue so I factory reset my device but nothing changed its still crashes at least once every 5 minutes. At this point I am thinking its a hardware issue. Any help would be appreciated.
If it's returnable, get a cash refund. This phone is sounding more like a dog (no offense to K-9s intended) more each passing day. Multiply defects.
It may be a bad firmware load but who cares(?) if you can get your money back or at least a new replacement.
Sammy's done nothing but drop the ball this year...

Have you tried booting into safe mode to see if the phone is stable then? That would help indicate if it's a rogue thrid party app.
The Twitter app crashes and slows down for me,it's been happening since I got the phone. Not sure if it's the app or a bug in the OS.

Trash app. Ditch it.
FB, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Instagram none of that crapware runs on my phone ever.

I'm on Twitter all the time though, used Flamingo before and that's good but I like the features on the official app. It runs like sh** though.

Having it running as an app is completely unacceptable.
Worse...
The platform itself is heavily censored. Like FB most of your information is best keep private. These platforms have ruined many lives and careers. They are purveyors is disinformation and are political in nature.
Known data miners and abusers.
No. Don't feed the beast.
You're far better off on smaller forums.

Have you tried booting into safe mode to see if the phone is stable then? That would help indicate if it's a rogue thrid party app.

I haven't tried safe mode yet but I would assume a factory reset would be almost as good. Oddly the problem seems to be gone now no clue why though. Hopefully it doesn't come back.

It most likely will reoccure. Always best to find the root cause.
Factory resets should be reserved for after firmware upgrades and malware infections that can't be eradicated.
Occasionally a poorly written apk will alter hidden setting values permanently on uninstalling it. Sometimes you can reinstall that app and correct those values otherwise... factory reset time.
Here's an update incase anyone is curious. Basically I contacted Samsung support and they told me I could bring it to a local repair shop to get it fixed. The first time I brought it they reflashed the firmware but that didn't work it was still constantly crashing. When I brought it back they replaced the motherboard. That worked but sadly cell service does not work. When I brought it back they Basically just said that I should get a replacement device but Samsung was "out of stock" so there was nothing they could do. Now I'm Basically stuck with a non functional galaxy s21.

How loathsome of Samsung. *Grrrrrrr*
Ask for a full refund check.
That's what Samsung should have offered rather than have you babysitting a paperweight.
Lean on them. If purchased with a MC or Visa card file a claim. You will have to return the device for the bank to issue credit if they can.
Did they replace the C port PCB?

Part of the problem is I bought it from t-mobile so its still being paid off and neither Samsung or t-mobile will replace/refund me for the device. And no the c port was not replaced.

Also they gave me one option to send it in with Samsungs mail in repair. But that's going to take weeks and still probably won't do anything.

A bad or mismatched C port PCB can kill the internet at least on the Note 10+
They may have used the wrong mobo variant.
Tech can be inept buffoons. Those little part numbers have to match exactly...
Lean on T-mobile, they are in breach of contract.
Contact their retainment dept, escalate the case, lean all over them like a cheap suit.
Contact your State Attorney General's office and the BBB. File complaints.
Completely unacceptable.
Final update: Just got my phone back from Samsung and after countless tech support calls and countless attempted repairs it's finally fixed! Everything seems to be good so far.
