Buzz from earphone speaker
- May be due to poor shielding. Some may be able to hear the frequency, some may not. 666FFF summed it up the best "...It's such a low crackle/hiss sound. You really need to press the phone against your head and be in a quiet room to hear it. Ambient sound is much louder. My only worry is if it is using battery constantly..."
Tell Google about it here. LEDs tend to produce a lot of noise, and with such a high density battery in the device, there could be some resonance occurring (since it buzzes/crackles all the time, but seems less so when in deep sleep).
[UPDATE] Seems it is a mfg. defect. Some people with their replacement phone/friend's phone have commented on it being fixed. However, others have reported the replacement is worse. So...buyer beware. If anyone knows how to figure out the batch number of our phones, maybe we could track it that way?
"Unreasonably" hot device
- The thermal conductivity is much higher in glass than plastic. I wouldn't worry about it.
Poor battery performance
- Give it a few charge cycles...Got 5 hours screen on, 20 hrs on, 5% left yesterday on first charge! Also disable location tracking via WiFi, and disable Google Currents auto-update.
Poor touchscreen sensitivity
- Not sure. Screen protector?
Feedback when plugged in.
- It's a ground loop. Google it and fix it.
Easy scratching/cracking
- Doesn't make much technical sense (http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/sites/all/files/GG2 PI Sheet Rev b_050912.pdf), but perhaps things are cracking due to high thermal gradients (GG2 has a lower coef of expansion than GG1, so not sure why that would be the case...perhaps the thinner material?).
When has an Android phone gotten more than a day with moderate use? RAZR Maxx doesn't count.
But yes, I have noticed it getting very hot especially when charging. Probably because it is glass.

I get 2 with a crappy myTouch Q.
The thermal conductivity of glass is 5-10x greater than plastic, so I would think glass is the culprit.
Add rattle and yellow tint.
And touchscreen unresponsiveness.
The speaker make some noises - also if it is not in use. Hold it near to your ear and you can hear it. (pls test it). It crackle low.
Is there a bug report or something?
If your going to make an issues list please make sure you take into account how many phones have this issue.
I dont have any of these issues, and the battery 'issue' is not an issue at all. I am waiting for someone to pipe up about a rattle:laugh: that can only be heard when shaking to phone near your ear!
Also take into account some issues phone may have will be faulty devices. A standard manufacturing fault rate is <3% however most are happy with <5%.

The speaker (like to play music) or the earphone speaker (to listen to someone talk).
I already have the latter.

Usefull posting. Go to your mum and cry
My N4 seems to be getting pretty hot. Battery life could be better (it probably will). Rattling can only be heard shaking it quite violently next to my ear and even then it is quiet.

Experiencing none of the aforementioned issues. Only thing is my volume rocker is barely squeaky. Guessing I got lucky.

2. Clicking USB port: when you plug it in - slight motion of the phone makes a CLICK noise.
3. Camera on the back is not aligned in the the center.

1. Barely noticeable on my device unless I shake it like a maniac next to my ear.
2. Don't have this
3. Mine is centered perfect. Keep in mind production is never 100% perfect so there's bound to be misalignment on occasion.
I also have yet to experience any warming and I've been messing around with it since early this morning.

I just got mine today no issues other than i ran benchmarks test did heat up a little, I could feal the warmth but just barley wasn't hot burn me or uncomfortable to hold. i got it charged about 60% lasted 7hr of medium use, On first charge now let know tomorrow how i fair post screen shots of battery.
my only complaint is youtube HD video buffering alot. , i know its not my internet because my nexus 7 play video just fine..any body else have that kind of problem?
Mine hasn't showed up is my issue.
...
I actually managed to hear the rattling when talking on the phone by turning my body/head a bit quickly.
However, I don't care at all that it makes this noise.

It should be noted that the most typical reason for a slight rattling in a smart phone is an auto-focus camera sensor/lens. This is an "issue" that seems to plague all smart phones with auto-focus cameras.
Anybody of you experiency mild currents/earthing current or vibration like feeling from the mettalic back while charging?
I do feel that too, sometimes not always. Strange. Does Anyone know why is this happening??
Yes I feel it on the sides during charging only
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
It's electrical current passing through you. Depending on where you are from it may be caused by improper/poor earthing also computers, some chargers etc use capacitors that leak earthing current. But this is actually harmless to you and nothing to worry about :silly
Is this fine or should i get a replacement?

No it's just earth leakage and very common. If you stand on something/have no contact to ground then woila no fuzzy feeling looking at the dash charger just now I live in the UK ( some of the best electrical regulations and standards) the earth pin is plastic meaning it has to be double insulated and extra protection within the charger to safely pass any standards. I had a laptop that did this to me but only if I was in contact with the metal desk leg.

If you have a touch lamp or dimmer switch in your house you will feel the same thing but a bit stronger.

Hi
I am into hill walking and mountaineering. I am finding that my note 8 will shutdown if the temperature is below about -5C and I start the camera to take some pics. Once it's shutdown, it will refuse to start until warmed up, and needs a soft reset. It also comes back with 5% showing in the battery but had 80% at the time of shutdown.
It's rather a pain in the neck. My old Xperia Z5, Z3C and Z1 would do -20C without ever having issues.
I am assuming this is just an annoying 'feature' of Samsung devices rather than a fault.
I am thinking of running a background number crunching app to prevent deep sleep! Samsung is not interested, wondered if others had the same issue. If I stick my old Z5 and the Note 8 in my freezer at -15 for an hour the note 8 shuts down, but the Z5 carries on as normal. Prob down to cheap/nasty battery tech in the note 8.
Nigel
That is interesting. I'm going to northern Japan this Sunday for 3 weeks. It will be snow and freezing cold. I'll report back how my Note 8 works there. I really hope mine won't shutdown when i really need to use it.

That's a lil concerning -5C = +23F. Last week it was negative -10F here. I was shoveling snow for about an hour, big driveway/sidewalk path aka snowblower needs fixed. I took a few pics and took some calls/text. No shutdowns here. Now at the same time shoveling snow takes a lot of work so maybe my body heat was keeping it warm in pocket.
But at the same time the same could be said about what your doing and body heat idk. We need more people to chime in.
Oh bonus people in hot climates don't be afraid to chime in. Curious how this phone handles the heat. Gets cold here in winter, but really hot and mushy in the summer.
Hi
Mine is not in a pocket, but rather mounted to a chest strap on rucksack so it gets full force of cold and wind - exactly the same as my old Z5 - reason: it is also my GPS for walking and ski-touring. Maybe you can leave yours out in the cold exposed for an hour, then try taking a photo and see if it shuts down?

You could put it in a crown royal bag with a handwarmer. Would probably keep it warm enough. I live just 80 miles south of Canada in the PNW. It was 7 degrees last week. I left my phone in my car for a while and it was fine. It was really cold, but still working.
it's a glass phone. there is nothing under the glass but the components. that's the difference between it and your sony phone. glass is not a great insulator
Aye, might offer a work-around but not a particularly convenient one. I'll be back with Xperia end 2018 when I am due an upgrade. The phone only appears to actually shutdown when the camera is started while its cold. Must be high current draw, causing a voltage drop that gets detected and the device gets shutdown. Love the screen and pen, and camera, moved from Xperia after three separate devices as they looked old fashioned with their HUGE bezels, and refusal to adopt wireless charging.
It was 2 degrees F here in Nashville TN last week, but I stayed indoors and didn't go outside for any length of time to see how my phone would have been affected. Had some friends who went to the Jacksonville/Tennessee football game a couple of weeks ago.........16 degrees; they left early because they couldn't feel their limbs even with multiple hand/foot warmers...............I wonder how they kept their phones warm.

Its a glass phone in a heavy duty rubber case that I stuck it in! Both phones have a glass front! The wee bit of alu on the rear of the Z5 vs the glass on the Note 8 should not equate to a 15C difference in the temperature the device can withstand while continuing to function. I suspect the real reason is inferior battery tech vs Sony, and over-zealous low voltage detection and device shutdown.
I note that my Samsung 360cam also shutdown due to the cold this weekend gone, but my GoPro kept working.

this could be a result of sammy overcompensating for their note7 debacle last year. the fact that root limits my battery at 80% says a lot.

Isn't that 80% thing due to locked bootloader on Snapdragon? Root on Exynos doesn't have 80% issue, so not sure it's related to those Note 7 problems. The camera issue itself might still be though.

you're right, it is due to locked bootloader and the detection of root. it is no mistake that 80% is the cap when rooted. samsung did that on purpose. it started on models released after the note7, which is why i suspect they are weary of battery troubles, and if you root and begin to alter the system, the chances of an incident go up.
what camera issue are you referring to?

I will do that for you. I have a porch on my 2nd floor room. We're supposed to get 6-9 inches again this weekend with below temps close to 0 F maybe below. I will leave it out for an hour then try to use it. Probably will have same problem as you I am guessing.
Especially when phone is exposed like you pointed out and no body heat to keep it warm. Like others pointed out which forgot glass sucks for insulation. But at the same time I thought the note had a few layers of glass? The best house windows are double and tripled layers sumtimes more. They offer good insulation.

Great, thank you for confirming. The camera issue was the one mentioned by OP regarding trouble in colder temperatures. I just meant that while the 80% battery limit wasn't related to battery concerns or safety measures, I can't say with the same certainty that the camera issue described by OP isn't somehow related to that.

Maybe triple pane windows are made from a special type of glass? Or perhaps the spacing between those layers provides insulation not present on our phones? Not sure, just speculating here...

Yeah idk crap a bout house windows lol. You're right they're made out of special glass I believe and spacing exists. Would think even few layers of glass would make some difference in phone? But I am no expert on glass and insulation. So I will just shut up lol.
glass, plastic, metal or whatever material wont do any difference in cold weather with prolonged exposer.( case or no case)
if it takes 10 minutes to get to minus 5 or if it take 30 minutes, you still will get there. the question at hand is at what temp does the phone stop( if it acctualy does).
i think this is the data we are looking for.
Little more insight

It happed recently two times with my S9 Plus at around 0C temperature both time battery was above 50% and after restart it was at 2 percent. i don't know why the this happened at this "happy to work" temprature.
Guys it has been almost 5 weeks that ive purchased the device and ive been getting slight electric shock from the metal frame when i use it with the shock case when i charge !!! Also the touch and finger print sensor seems to be a bit messed up while charging ..is it any thing serious? And is every body facing this issue?
And its not earthing issue I've tried it with different wall sockets extension chords and everything
What you describe does not make sense. The stock cover covers up the sides pretty well, so how can you touch metal while with cover on?
Also the fingerprint sensor is built into the screen, so are you saying there is shock when you touch the screen? Also very unlikely as glass screen prevents that amount of electricity being passed thru, it wouldn't be enough to shock you.
Better be safe than sorry, you might want to take a video and return the phone.
ive seen a video on youtube from an indian user who was also getting shocks from the phone and eventually it would not switch on anymore so he had to get another one through the warrant. I am looking for the video but i didnt find it yet.
Lol sounds interesting. Would like to see the video.

I dint mean the sides when its on charge just slightly touch the upper metal portion of the frame!!!most probbaly with out the cover the shock is not noticed cuz a large part of frame is in contact and thus the electricity passes throug!! And i dint mention shock coming out of fingerprint!!! I told the finger print scanner struggles a bit while charging ...not sure if its cuz of any internal shock

Chargers supply DC current through the USB cable. 'Earth' makes no sense in a DC circuit, therefore it cannot be an earthing problem.
Also, virtually all USB chargers have a plastic case and so will invariably have no earth connection. Even if the plug for the charger has an earth pin, the chances are that it is not connected to anything.
I using k20.. during charging I feel vibration(current flow)in metal plat..why?? No earthing problem or charger problem

The battery in the phone supplies DC current and requires a DC current to charge. The charging brick delivers DC current to charge the battery.
If there is an AC current going to the phone when charging, you'll instantly kill the phone.
Any electric shock perceived when charging is not a result of a residual AC current on the phone case.
It is NOT an earthing problem.

I cracked my screen a while ago and just got the time to do the install, but as some of you may know the adhesive holding this turd together is very tough. After blasting with a hair dryer and buying an automotive suction cup I finally got the glass off but it cracked too bad to be reused. I cant do anything with the device now. I've held all buttons for a restart but the broken pixels light up for a split second and then it vibrates for a quick second. as i continue to hold it runs through that process over and over. Even plugging it in to the wall I cant even get a charge light. The only cause i could think of is too much heat. i replaced the screen on a note 5 with no issues. It just makes no sense that it doesn't do anything from peeling the rear glass off. Unfortunately I'm at the parents house where I'm the only android user so i cant plug into a PC as i have the 2 sided typeC cable.
Any Ideas?? As I'm Stumped. And to top it off my spare phone an unlocked Pixel 2 is having the No Sim issue.... Fun times.... It just finished the factory reset and still wont detect my Verizon SIM or ATT. So that's cool, haha.
Thanks for the help. Much appreciate2

Recheck all the connections again and ribbon cables for any damage maybe it got loose or heat damaged or cut.

Yes its been plugged in and the only thing i damaged was the foam on top of the lock button but its barely peeled back. no visible damage to the cable its self. and with the back cover the only part i took off the only exposed cable is really the fingerprint scanner. The scanner does though have some visible heat damage. there's little spots on it that wasn't there before. I think that's the cause of the problem.
could it be possible that i overheated the battery and now the device is in some kind of protection mode? the device could be thinking that it could catch fire or something? I know that Li-on batteries are pretty fragile to temperature.
Thanks for the help

If you have a multimeter you can check the battery voltage. If you have voltage then it should be okay but maybe the life of it won't be as long as before. Does the phone charge when you plug it in?
The fingerprint sensor might be the problem. I would replace it as with the battery as well.
Best bet have a Samsung service center look at it, it might be something else.
Good luck with it hope you get it figured out!

Battery specs should be 4000 mah, 15.4 Wh and 3.85 V.
Even though it will show voltage it might not have enough amperage to run. So might check for amperage as well.
Might want to hook up a light circuit to the battery and place the meter in between the + battery to + side of light (meaning the same line) to measure amps.
If it doesn't charge from the wall might as well replace the battery.
If that doesn't work most likely a dead phone (motherboard).
For any voltage values for the motherboard, sorry no idea if you can find that info.
You've been quite the help Blue. Thank you so much. Will be home tmrw and will check on the device. I'll be sure to come back with findings to return the favor. Thanks again! Hope you had a good holiday and Happy New Year!
