Camera back and selfie not working since recent update - OnePlus 7 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello,
Has anyone heard about this ? Since about a month both of my camera stopped working, first it was just the selfie cam, it kept poping up and asked but the screen stay black, obviously the face unlock wasn't working and from time to time I was getting and error saying the face unlock didn't permission to the camera.
Then fewdays later the back camera stopped working, theflashligh as well.
The phone was not dropped at all. So i looked a bit on internet and I found a LOT of user with this exact same issue on oneplus forum.

I obviously tried to factory reset the phone, I even updated to the lastest beta of oxygen 11 thinking it would fix it, it didn't. I always been on the lastest official builds and never flash or even unlocked the bootloader. 5 Also tried to erase the cache.
Also tried to take a logcat of what is happening when I launch the camera app and the logcat does not show anything related to the camera.
What is incredible is that oneplus does not react at all to this issue. I'm posting on XDA cause there are a faire amount of dev and knowledgable people that might understand what is actually happening with this bug.
Are you guys concerne by this issue ? If a dev need more info i'm very open to try anything to save my phone.
Thank you for reading.

Hi, I have exactly same issue. After last update rear camera stopped working. Front camera works when I long press camera icon and choose front camera.
When I switched to back camera whole phone freezes and reboots.
I tried different kernels, restoring via EDL to OOS9 but nothing helped.

Same problems, same tries to restore a functional state: nothing. It seems like nobody has a clue, not even OnePlus.

I ended up sending it back, on the site they say its fixed, so I'll see and report when it arrives home. They were extremly fast to fix it less the 24 hours after i send it back.

I did got it back, they fixed it by changing both camera and flashing and old firmware pre november update. I didn't update it yet because kinda scared it will break the cameras again. Thinking about selling it.

I have started facing the issue. There has been no physical damage and front camera doesn't work. The face recognition stopped working. When switching from back t front, it freezes. I tried clearing cache and also keeping it in safe mode for 2 or 3 hours as said by executive on call.
Did anyone get possible solution?

Did you get any help?

Yes, I had to send it back to oneplus, they change both camera. It seems like this is the only solutions :/

Same issue, same pattern, Just after software update. Never dropped or got wet. This is very disappointing. And living in a 3rd world country, no OnePlus customer care here to help fix the issue. Will need to go to an independent technician who's probably gonna overcharge me. Did send report to OnePlus about it but no response.

I join the club, BUT, i have downgrade to android 9 with MSMDOWNLOAD and the rear camera is working now and the flash too !!!! but not the front camera.
Why everybody didn't same problem ????
Why only few people have ????
Is this software, all the cameras together or is this a composant on the motherboard in difficulty ?
i tried too pixel Rom, lineage rom, to finally return to original 9.5.4 official Rom, but there is security issue not solved because it's an old Rom and i can update it...

Running pixel experience (Android 11), same story here, OnePlus update broke the cameras and now I'm not gonna pay for it to be replaced when they are physically good.
Any solutions ? Need some help here

The camera's flex is broken and need to replace. You can downgrade to Android 10 to check if cameras are working again. I don't know why the camera works on Android 9 and not in Android 11

The device will, of course, be the OnePlus 6 as it will most likely be the first, and only, OnePlus device to have Treble support.
Apparently, though, that doesn't mean we won't have Android P on the 5/5T...
Friends,
Did you get a chance to catch the Google I/O livestream yet? We're excited to announce we've been working closely with Google to give OnePlus 6 users early access to Android P Beta, shortly after launch. OnePlus devices are some of the most developer-friendly phones on the market. We look forward to seeing how app developers and other early adopters in our community will take advantage of this beta to create even better software experiences.
Since day one, we've been committed to working with our community to build the best software possible. We've come a long way thanks to the passion and dedication of the whole OnePlus community. Your feedback has helped our team push out some of the industry's fastest software updates. OxygenOS continues to evolve at an incredible pace, thanks to you.
Over 135,000 of our users signed up to review the OnePlus 6 early via The Lab. With the OnePlus 6 device in their hands, they'll be among the first in our community to be able to download the Android P Build. (OnePlus 5/5T friends, we'll have something nice lined up for you later this year.) In the meantime, if you'd like to read more about the latest Android release, feel free to visit https://www.oneplus.com/developer-preview. We'll continue to work closely with Google in the coming days, so stay tuned!
Never Settle.

Your experiences and feelings about what OnePlus has done with the OP5 is far from the much more favorable experience I've had. I recently laughed at a large number of my relatives who all bought a Samsung 8 or 8+. They were just getting Oreo 8.0 while I was already on 8.1.1 with April's security patches. Sorry but your comments on ugly interfaces do not ring true when compared to that sad Samsung TouchWiz experience or the inferior Bixby personal assistant.
Unless Android P allows for theming support (e.g. Substratum), I'm not all that interested in it any way.
That's about treble support i believe, cuz mokee dev spoke with one from OP developers, not exactly new android ver.

- updates aren't be-all-end-all. i remember samsung introduced split screen in their touchwiz way back in jelly bean. stock android got it in nougat.
- liking a certain ui is subjective. i have been using stock android since my nexus 5. and after a while stock android gets boring.
- Bixby is inferior. yes. no one is stopping you from using google assistance.
- yes, camera is bad. or rather the software is pretty bad and the difference between images captured with OnePlus camera and pixel camera proves it.

When you say "that's about treble support", you mean OnePlus will add treble support to the 5/5T but not P? Why would they do that? It would be pointless. Or do you mean they're adding Treble + P?

When i say ''that's about treble support'', i mean that by that their phrase line they prioritize treble under android P, which means that we will get treble first, then android P.

I doubt that to be honest, OnePlus has already stated that none of the currently released products will be getting Treble support
If they do release Android P for our phones it will likely not use Treble but just be built as previous roms have been.

Currently only available for specific countries. I'm curious what they'll say for USA.
"Something nice" does not have to mean we'll get Android P. I'll wait and see - but in the mean time, I'm happy with 8.1.1.

Security/Firmware updates

This is one thing holding me back from Huawei phones. From my previous experience, Huawei don't offer a reliable schedule of security updates. You get a couple and they seem to move onto thier next release and forget everything else.
Are they still like this? How have you got on with previous Huawei phones?
I'm on the fence regarding this also - my previous experience was that UK devices had poor update support - while EU devices were far better - waiting to see this time (not fussed about missing out on any Watch/Charger promotion).

very wise. also, if you give it a couple of months to see how it gets on the price will fall too. Might be worth buying from amazon.de before March 29th to retain EU warranty. Should get better updates from the EU phone. I've been told by a contact at Huawei, that the Three network are causing the delays in the UK. Even if your are on a different network!
Has a quick look to see how the Mate 10 pro is getting on with updates. Sadly its not good. Looks like most M10P users have been put off with the M20P for this reason. Why can't Huawei on this?

I didn't get many on my last Huawei phone despite Firmware Finder. My Pixel gets them every month on the same network. That is why people are whining.
Change carriers. They obviously favor Google phones. I'm even bit unsatisfied by too many updates for Mate 10 pro cuz I like to factory reset phone after each.
Taking a look at FF they pushed out 16 updates for EU region in last 12 months. Champions of updates I'd say

Trouble is from my experience EU had great update support, UK had poor support often 2 or 3 software updates behind (although I think security updates were a bit more regular). If I get a Mate 20 I’d be tempted to get a dual sim EU model over the single sim UK one.

This is why i use a pixel. Huawei in the UK seem to lag behind. Rumours are the 3 network is holding up precedings. This will affect you even if you're on a different network.
Several several years ago, I swore never to buy a Huawei phone again because of the horrendous lack of updates. Back then it was the enormous jump from KK to lollipop. Nexus devices back then we're about to jump to marshmallow before Huawei updated their phone to lollipop. This was on the Ascend Mate 7.
I am tempted to get the Mate 20 Pro, but am afraid of the lack of support. I'm debating on the Huawei phone vs the 6T at this point. Choices.. I enjoy wide angle lenses but also enjoy smooth stock android. If only the 6T had a wide angle lens, it wouldn't even be a debate for me.

Same as me, I swore i'd never buy Huawei again because of their poor support. Its a lot of money to drop on a phone that will get dropped. Does anyone know how Android treble is working out for Huawei? Will this alleviate any fears?
I was complaining to my wife that my lg g7 only got one update since I got it. She, on the other hand, was annoyed because of how many updates she got since she had the p20 pro. Although, her phone was not bought from a carrier.
Or maybe Huawei has a new approach to updates? Considering the fact that they've stated numerous times that they want to become the #1 phone manufacturer, or beat samsung (something like that). And consistent updates would take a lot from samsung's market, knowing how inconsistent they are.
Also, huawei is one of the first to come with pie updates, which gives me confidence in them. "Don't forget about oneplus". Yeah, oneplus only has to worry about softwear, given the fact that their hardwear is borrowed from whatstheirface.
Mate 10 updates have been solid for me here in NZ, no issues with frequency of security updates.
There is one phone for UK/ EU this time. Put a sim inside, and it will OTA add your networks specific network settings/apps/maybe a splash screen. Factory reset, and everything is removed, including splash screen.
I am hoping this new system also means faster updates in the UK as well.
Will the Pixel get updates quicker and potentially for longer. Probably yes. That's the choice you have to make.

Actually, it's even better than you describe. As far as security and OS updates are concerned, there's one phone for non-China and one phone for China. Previously we had software updates separated by branding (Asia/C636, Europe/C432, UK/C782, Middle East/C185) as well as by dual sim or single sim (L09/L29)
As things are with the new models, there is one firmware file for every non-Chinese Mate 20 Pro, and one firmware file for every Chinese Mate 20 Pro. Then there are separate files for branding-related changes which can be updated and packaged separately from the main firmware file.
The result is that one update file is valid for all of the non-Chinese phones, to update the features, security patch, etc.
This is a new thing with EMUI 9, and it will also apply to older phones updated to EMUI 9, like P20 series, Mate 10 series, so on.
My carrier Optus is unfortunately well known for failing to provide regular Huawei updates so hopefully I will eventually be able to debrand my Mate 20 Pro somehow.
If you're feeling unsure about security updates, this might make you feel better

Several questions for the current state of the phone

Hey all,
So I just got the new June 1 update (OPSS28.65-36-11-4).
Been thinking that since the whole thing with newer stuff needing to comply soon on Play Store if memory serves right, it was about time I evaluated if I should be considering updating my phone with one of the other roms. Just been curious given that I believe there is still no official download to force the phone from 32-bit to 64-bit.
So even if it is, I've been lovin the Fingerprint sensor for several things and personally, been liking the whole time/weather widget which I believe is tied to the launcher and I would lose if I changed so I'd guess I'd have to replace that, but at the same time, I just don't feel the need for root so its not something I am worried about having. Last time I did any of the rom patches, it was with the Nexus 7 so not quite sure how much has changed in that regard.
Should I be looking into the 64-bit roms available and if so, what ones would fit based on the no real need for root while still maintaining some of the things I enjoy of the Moto phone (including moto Gestures)?
For the record, I don't do Pie but as far as Oreo custom ROMs go, almost all of them have Moto Gestures/Actions which is quite cool. Compared to stock they offer a lot more gesture choices.
5 gestures with some 14 screen-on fingerprint actions and 8 screen-off. Not bad.

There's no real advantage to 64 bit on this device. I've run both (32 and 64) and decided to stick with 32 bit as everything works, and works well. Couldn't find a 64 bit in which everything actually worked. May just be cuz I have the US version and all the "devs" are not from the US, but there's always something that doesn't work, or doesn't work as well.

The other thing is if the compliance is supposed to be about 64-bit, I may have an issue of an app that I need to not work. But I do have the US version (XT1806). Been on it since last year just as the G6 series was coming out (and my unfortunate disdain for them not giving the Plus models to the state side) so I figure at least, it should last me until a later one comes out that is actually more powerful than what I have. Also, I sometimes like to have some games on the go very quick. Not the Fortnite or PUBG variety, but I figure that if the games have to add compliance as well, I may lose out on some. So I get what you're saying. But I am kinda trying to figure my options too from all perspectives.
But would you mind explaining some examples of things that didn't work? Maybe if its something that wouldn't bother me, I can figure from there.
[Ugh. Sorry for all the typos in my last post.]
If I'm not mistaken, the OEM stock ROMs are 32-bit but the custom ROMs are all 64-bit. So I guess there's not really a choice between architectures.
On the user end of things I haven't experienced anything that runs on one but not the other. I still have the stock Nougat (32-bit) installed along with several Oreo ROMs (64-bit). If anything I may see an issue with an app that runs fine on Nougat but not so well on Oreo but that's rare.

Ya I get it, just one of those precautions. I am still more or less baffled that the OEM is 32-bit even after the story and how almost any other phone, I can find the stock rom so easy to deal with, but this one, I can't even get it unless I look at someone else pulling their own.

Question Will we see Custom ROMs for this phone?

I was looking for a custom ROM (first Xiaomi phone,I hate MIUI, it sucks) while keeping the Camera featiures. but I realized there isn;t any out yet.
The 12 Pro has been out for 8+ months, and there still isn't any actual ROMs for it.
I wonder if we will see anything (Lineage for example) anytime soon.
Do you think the lack of ROMs is because devs are focused on other phones, or that the 12 Pro is just unpopular?

If you don't like Miui, you had to buy a Pixel.
The 12 pro is not unpopular but expensive, it's more practical to have the phone to develop.
Wait and see.
MIUI indeed but better than stock.

I actually had a Pixel 6 that had issues (still loved it though), and wanted to replace it with something I hadn't tried before.
The 12 Pro is a great phone, I just have my gripes with MIUI now that it's been a couple months, but it is by no means bad, it's just personally not my favourite UI.
I will absolutely wait and see, this post is by no means complaining or begging, simply wondering if this is normal as I have never owned a Xiaomi device before!

I understand but as said above the phone is relatively expensive and recent, you have to wait.
Yet the A12 source code is already there.https://github.com/MiCode/Xiaomi_Kernel_OpenSource/tree/zeus-s-oss
To familiarize yourself with a Xiaomi you can try a Xiaomi EU rom, same than stock but with a lot of improvements and options and especially the call recorder.

I love using MIUI, it has all the features built-in, I am using it from MIUI 9, and MIUI is one of the first to implement gesture navigation,
I have also used other Android skins like One UI, Color OS, Oxygen OS & Stock android, out of all those Oxygen OS older versions and stock android are good other than MIUI,
One UI is full of features but it causes lag I have Samsung Galaxy S7 tab which lags quite a bit
If u want to remove unused system apps just use tools like Xiaomi adb fastboot tool by szaki you can easily find it on google and it is easy to use too just enable USB Debugging and select which apps u want to remove this tool even has an option to reinstall removed apps
If possible try using Xiaomi EU ROM it is a polished version of stock MIUI ROM

I installed lots of AOSP roms on my previous phones in A10, A11, for example the BLISS roms in A12 have become ugly and coarse, no finesse (quick access), a lot of customization options have disappeared, which was the charm of these roms.
Wait and see.

I am using the EU Rom as I am in the EU (even reflashed it after trying the A13 Beta).
The things I don't like about MIUI are mostly, well, about the UI:
- The Settings are absolutely nonsensical compared to any other phone I have ever used, specific features are all switched around, when most other UIs are kinda similar in their arrangement and sorting of settings
- MIUI looks super boring and has ads in their apps (that you have to manually disable)
- Some settings literally stop working if you uninstall specific apps (cannot change Lock Screen wallpaper through settings without the Xiaomi Gallery app, some battery settings and other settings dissapear if you uninstall Xiaomi Security)...
- You completely lose one of the main features of Android 12: the theming with the wallpaper, widgets, icons, etc... all lf those are removed in MIUI.
- Split-Screen SUCKS. You cannot resize the Youtube app, as it doesn't scale the window correctly and you lose the video, instead of doing it like every other UIs ny letting you only show the video; it doesn't scale the launcher so you lose access to your dock/bottom part of your screen, etc...
I feel like MIUI has removed a lot of what makes Android 12 appealing, and it will do the same with Android 13, which is why I want a more Stock A12/13 ROM, while keeping the Camera features (which you just need the app for).
Unfortunately, it doesn't matter whatsoever that Xiaomi has good Gesture Navigation, because I CANNOT use it.
I WANT to, but you HAVE to use the default launcher to use them. Changing the default launcher warns you that Gesture Navigation is only available with the stock launcher.
I need a different launcher so I can use my Icon Packs I paid for and have been using for years, as well as all the customization they give (rename apps, custom icons per app, hide apps in app drawer, etc.).
I have never had any of those issues with my previous phones (minus A12, since it is newer), and while the 12 Pro is still a great phone, it has so many issues.
I will wait for the ROMs patiently, but nothing will make me love MIUI unless they fix all of thoses issues I described above.
Still running stock MIUI (Android 11) fully debloated, native call recording (stock Indonesia ROM has it by default and works great outside of Indonesia), device is fully read/write-able thanks to my SystemRW/SuperRW feat. MakeRW script (link in my signature) which opens the door for endless customizations according to your personal preferences and I couldn't be any happier. As you can see you don't need to install a 3rd party ROM to be happy
And if my banking app is too intrusive I will simply uninstall it and do my money transactions with my browser app which never checks for root or if my selinux is permissive. I mean why would the browser app check such a thing? That's none of its business!

What you say absolutely does not correspond with the XIAOMI EU roms which have no ads, you may be talking about EEA stock roms for Europe (disabling the ads in the setup).

How sad! A10 + A11 are the best versions!
You can try to compile A11 from source for your device if you like a challenge
That's okay though. You can make RW A12 too and debloat the hell out of it and customize it until you are happy with the results
A13 that's a different story altogether... I'll update my script to make it work with A13 but it's not as easy as with A10 or A11

Question Xperia 10 IV, Trust on First Use

Howdy, everyone. I picked up an Xperia 10 IV (model No. XQCC-72) and I’m having trouble with the WiFi.
My work uses WPA2 enterprise encryption, but doesn’t issue any kind of certificate.
Here’s my understanding of the situation:
As-of later builds of Android 11, Google disabled the ability to select “Do no validate” when connecting to these networks.
However, they implemented a replacement system called Trust on First Use (ToFU) that shipped with Android 13.
Well, my Xperia is on latest build of Android 13 that’s available; but ToFU isn’t an option. I can select to use system certificates, or to install a certificate of my choice, and that’s if.
ToFU works perfectly fine on an old Pixel 4a that’s running Android 13; so it’s definitely not a problem with the WiFi. Seems to be entirely limited to the Xperia
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or even confirmation if this is a bug limited to my device; rather than a conscious choice made by Sony to disable ToFU? The company phones where I work are iPhones, so there’s no chance of them updating the WiFi to work with Android’s more stringent security requirements anytime soon.

Nothing yet. I just installed a recently released update, and still no TOFU. I tweeted to the official Xperia twitter about implementing the feature, since there isn’t any kind of feedback hub.
I hope they activate it at some point. I’d like to get an Xperia 1 V as my next main phone, but not being able to connect to my workplace WiFi is a dealbreaker.

I would use a custom ROM if I could, but as of yet there’s nothing for the 10 IV that I could find. And I’m not savvy enough to make my own.
Sony is one of the few, possibly only companies that make a phone with flagship specs, that also supports expandable storage and still has a headphone jack. But they just had to cripple it by leaving out a feature that’s baked into Android by default.
I don’t know if they left it out for some reason on purpose, or if it accidentally got disabled during development and nobody’s brought it to their attention yet.
I may never know.

Im going to tweet them as well and hope someone sees it. It should be enabled by default so there is potential that for security reasons in A11 and A12 they hard coded TOFU being disabled and forgot to add it back in

I can’t believe I missed the thread for that Lineage OS port. I sure feel like a dope.
I’ll give it a shot when I have some time to mess around, but that’ll probably fix it. I’m running Lineage OS on an old Pixel 3a, and TOFU works perfectly. So this is promising

This is the reply from Sony. Some corporate copy-and-paste nonsense that isn’t even related to what I asked.
I looked through the unofficial LineageOS thread, and there seems to be some audio and camera bugs. Plus the ROM is distributed in a .bin format; which Windows really doesn’t want to work with and I don’t feel like digging out an old PC with Linux on it at the moment.
I think I actually did see that unofficial build of LineageOS before; but didn’t want to deal with the hassle that comes with an unofficial build for a fairly niche device.
I might just keep my eye on it for now but leave my Xperia as stock. Who knows, maybe we’ll get TOFU in a year when Sony puts out an update to Android 14.
It’s not a huge deal for me; I picked this thing up cheap on a whim. Both to gauge modern Sony phones (I haven’t used an Xperia since I got the very first model in the lineup, the Xperia X1, back in 2008) to see if I’d want to use one full time, and to eventually put Sailfish OS on it if Jolla decides to support it. My primary iPhone connects to improperly secured WPA2 networks, so it’s not the end of the world for me.
I do hope Sony eventually gets it together and fixes this problem. My iPhone is starting to show its age and I really like the design and feature set of the Xperia 1 series; but I can’t reasonably spend that kind of money on a phone that won’t even connect to the WiFi at work.
