Howdy, everyone. I picked up an Xperia 10 IV (model No. XQCC-72) and I’m having trouble with the WiFi.
My work uses WPA2 enterprise encryption, but doesn’t issue any kind of certificate.
Here’s my understanding of the situation:
As-of later builds of Android 11, Google disabled the ability to select “Do no validate” when connecting to these networks.
However, they implemented a replacement system called Trust on First Use (ToFU) that shipped with Android 13.
Well, my Xperia is on latest build of Android 13 that’s available; but ToFU isn’t an option. I can select to use system certificates, or to install a certificate of my choice, and that’s if.
ToFU works perfectly fine on an old Pixel 4a that’s running Android 13; so it’s definitely not a problem with the WiFi. Seems to be entirely limited to the Xperia
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or even confirmation if this is a bug limited to my device; rather than a conscious choice made by Sony to disable ToFU? The company phones where I work are iPhones, so there’s no chance of them updating the WiFi to work with Android’s more stringent security requirements anytime soon.

Nothing yet. I just installed a recently released update, and still no TOFU. I tweeted to the official Xperia twitter about implementing the feature, since there isn’t any kind of feedback hub.
I hope they activate it at some point. I’d like to get an Xperia 1 V as my next main phone, but not being able to connect to my workplace WiFi is a dealbreaker.

I have the 1 iii, it is an amazing phone. The 1 V will no doubt be incredible.
i have found using custom roms did make TOFU appear but Sony really should support this stock. Especially since android 13 should have it enabled by default

I would use a custom ROM if I could, but as of yet there’s nothing for the 10 IV that I could find. And I’m not savvy enough to make my own.
Sony is one of the few, possibly only companies that make a phone with flagship specs, that also supports expandable storage and still has a headphone jack. But they just had to cripple it by leaving out a feature that’s baked into Android by default.
I don’t know if they left it out for some reason on purpose, or if it accidentally got disabled during development and nobody’s brought it to their attention yet.
I may never know.

Im going to tweet them as well and hope someone sees it. It should be enabled by default so there is potential that for security reasons in A11 and A12 they hard coded TOFU being disabled and forgot to add it back in

Have you tried https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-unofficial-pdx225-13-lineage-20-for-sony-xperia-10iv.4562485/?
If you are not sure if your model is supported just ask in that forum also same in regards for TOFU.

I can’t believe I missed the thread for that Lineage OS port. I sure feel like a dope.
I’ll give it a shot when I have some time to mess around, but that’ll probably fix it. I’m running Lineage OS on an old Pixel 3a, and TOFU works perfectly. So this is promising

This is the reply from Sony. Some corporate copy-and-paste nonsense that isn’t even related to what I asked.
I looked through the unofficial LineageOS thread, and there seems to be some audio and camera bugs. Plus the ROM is distributed in a .bin format; which Windows really doesn’t want to work with and I don’t feel like digging out an old PC with Linux on it at the moment.
I think I actually did see that unofficial build of LineageOS before; but didn’t want to deal with the hassle that comes with an unofficial build for a fairly niche device.
I might just keep my eye on it for now but leave my Xperia as stock. Who knows, maybe we’ll get TOFU in a year when Sony puts out an update to Android 14.
It’s not a huge deal for me; I picked this thing up cheap on a whim. Both to gauge modern Sony phones (I haven’t used an Xperia since I got the very first model in the lineup, the Xperia X1, back in 2008) to see if I’d want to use one full time, and to eventually put Sailfish OS on it if Jolla decides to support it. My primary iPhone connects to improperly secured WPA2 networks, so it’s not the end of the world for me.
I do hope Sony eventually gets it together and fixes this problem. My iPhone is starting to show its age and I really like the design and feature set of the Xperia 1 series; but I can’t reasonably spend that kind of money on a phone that won’t even connect to the WiFi at work.

My upgrade is coming up in January but i want the Vibrant so badly that i think imma treat myself and pay full price for it, coz my current phone (omnia 2) is a so ****ty.
But reading all these lag/gps threads has put some second thoughts in my head and thinking of holding off and just upgrading in January and save a bit of cash as well or maybe even the torch.
What are your thoughts wait it out and see if samsung fixes the issues and not be out $500 or its worth buying now because the lag fixes fix everything and gps is not so bad?
if you need a new phone now, buy it
the problems you read are exaggerated as usual.
been using it for over a month using stock ROMs every feature works and no lags
GPS is a must thing for me, and it works as soon as i turn it on within 5~10sec
if you don't need a phone now
then wait for better phones coming out next year
well i don't want another phone and i think the vibrant is very nice better then my freezing and laggy omnia.
Get the vibrant now and save your upgrade for the next best thing next year. At $520 tax in its a steal now that you can unlock it for free.
My advise is wait for the September update, to see what happens. I don't care about the lag personally, but the GPS could be better (even though I don't use it really).
We'll know for sure then if the GPS will work. Because it is likely other devices with competing specs to this phone will be released, and if they support GPS better (and have ATMEL too), you'd be better off waiting.

Any of the new HTC phones, including the Desire HD. They admittedly have the now infamous 1Ghz snapdragon but theres a good possibility they are paired with an Adreno 205 (which has a graphics chipset based on Power VR SGX 535). That would give the HTC phones equal performance considering froyo + will be better optimised for snapdragon processors.
Graphics performance is not as good as the galaxy s chipset but good enough.
HTC's in general I've found are better built but now were encroaching on personal preference territory. This may be simply because HTC have had more time to perfect android or just Ive had a more solid experience with HTC android phones.
rest assured there will be a whole flood of non-samsung androids come christmas so perhaps hold off till end of September and pick the best price/feature phone at that time. More exciting is the prospect of google tv, greater adoption and connection of android devices.
p.s. theres also windows mobile and its host of offerings.
In regards to Windows Mobile, unfortunately, Microsoft seems to have joined the party much too late (which is a pity actually). I don't believe WM7 will survive, because Blackberry owns the corporate market, Apple owns the home market, Symbian/custom OS's owns the cheaper smartphone market and Android owns the technical market (although, it is now accelerating it's growth).
Btw, the SGS isn't the only phone having issues. On the iPhone, people are still having issues with the proximity sensor, and the only solution for iPhone users for the antenna is to use a bumper if they suffer for the issue (or become right handed).
Yep, and the Nexus One wasn't perfect either:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/186399/google_faces_deluge_of_nexus_one_complaints.html . Remember that? And now, people LOVE the nexus one.
The main issue seems to be GPS though on this phone, as people who oppose the lag found switching to EXT fixes their issue.. But GPS, there was no known solution. So whilst there may be similar phones released in september, I forgot to mention you should either wait to see what GPS does, or wait a while before grabbing another phone (because they might have other serious issues on release).
But be cautious about claims made in forums, and wait until you see proof (even here). One idiot who owned a Sony Ericson blog claimed with authority that this phone definitely had 360MB RAM (rather than the full 512), I see people constantly grab quadrant and take note of every 0.5%-1% increase in score they see and try to correlate them to speed of the ROM (because 1% increase in quadrant would be visibly noticeable?) and I've seen people claim that because NMEA sends dodgy packets, the problem is DEFINITELY hardware, without checking if the drivers, or the device is sending them.
Make sure you wait for sufficient evidence. If the GPS DOES get fixed though, and tracking software consistently shows accurate tracks (when sitting down and moving), I'd personally recommend selecting this phone, because unlike the current competing devices, it has good hardware (even a proper multitouch controller), and we mostly know it's problems and limitations now.

Even the HTC Desired have (had) the problem with the proximity sensor, good thing our great team at XDA made a hack to fix that.
unfortunately or fortunately depending how you look at it, iphone people are not as free to do as they please with their phones.

sending a playlist to my windows 7 computer, which connects to my stereo with an outdoor speaker, while sitting outside drinking wine and smoking a cigar. Priceless.
This phone Rocks. buy one, hell buy two lol.
I ordered one yesterday, coming from an Omnia HD with Symbian on it I reckon this will be a pretty huge upgrade. Even given the minor bugs there is. I'll put my trust in that Samsung will fix those bugs in Froyo which is coming in less than a month anyway.
Am I the only one here who came from a K750i, or another ancient dumbphone?

I'd definitely recommend waiting, but not because of the lag/gps ; Gingerbread should allow for some awesome phones come this holiday season(mainly phones with a higher res).

Also figured I'd mention that coming from AMOLED; I don't think I'd able to downgrade that. The washed out blacks are so dreadful. Super AMOLED promising even better contrasts (and actually working in sunlight) can only be a winner. I did consider waiting for Desire HD, but choose not to, purely because of the screen.
What do you guys think are the chances of i9000 getting gingerbread ???
Samsung said official 2.2 will be around september, and 3.0 will be launched around mid-october , so maybe we will have 3.0 for i9000 around february
Desire HD will launch around mid-september , it will come with 2.2, and will probably get 3.0 in december - january
Nobody knows.. Nobody even knows what the specs for gingerbread are. Any reply would be guesses izmenar. The only reason we probably wouldn't get it, is if it required dual core, but dual core mobile CPU's aren't being released for a while

Tegra 2 should have a dual core Cortex-A9.
Only thing we know for sure is that custom UIs won't be supported in Gingerbread.

Hi there,
i have my Galaxy S for about 2 Weeks and i am happy with it.
The Display is very clear (even with an lower resolution than the IP4).
No jailbreaking or something else to get some stuff working on this nice phone.
Nice functions and a good UI.
Great phone!
...only GPS sucks a little bit, but i hope this will be fixed
Greetings
DerRaven
Hi, guys. Hope you're OK
I am not trying to troll or be an asshole, but instead try to point to some of the "flaws" or elements with the phone I'm a little disappointed with. I have been a big fan of the Samsung Galaxy phones and I've had them all (actually I still have the S4) and now that I have the Z1 I can point on the flaws easier, because in my opinion the software on the S4 (Touchwiz) are much better. I can mention the built-in widgets, the home screen "editor" (I can't even restock the windows with Z1), the alarm clock has less features, calendar is not as intuitive, SMS settings are very bad and really illogical and buggy and so on.
However, I love the Z1 design, gallery, the screen, happy with the sound and camera, but I just don't know what to do. Do you think these problems and settings will be fixed in future updates? I think it's rather scary that I get a Samsung S1 and S2 feelings from some of the settings I have on the Z1. This isn't good. Didn't Sony even try Samsung phones?
An example is the SMS settings mentioned above. When I receive a message I don't want the message to visible on the status bar, but I really want to get notified in the status bar that a message has been received, but don't want to read the actual message. I can't see any settings for this at all. Touchwiz had these exact same settings in S1 and early S2. When, at the Z1, I'm trying to disable the status bar notifications, it automatically also grays out (disabling) the ability to have shake notification and even sound notification. What the hell is this?!
I got the Z1 today and noticed 3-4 or more of these "bugs". Anyone else noticed the same?
So to my questions:
Should I deliver the device back and take a chance that Sony will fix this? Or should I expect Sony to already have implemented this if they were smart enough from the beginning?
I see people are mentioning firmware updates already. I don't have these (UK version, living in Norway)
Will this device be rooted flawlessly in the future without camera brick?
How is Sony's history regarding updates on their devices?
Thanks Hopefully someone can answer or typing their thoughts on this dilema and what I (or someone else) should do.
Have a nice evening.
More stuff I miss
I will update this post in the future if feel it's necessary to write more "missing" features in the Z1.
Live wallpapers?
Hide applications?
Move the app button in the middle of the bottom menu and even insert more apps here than 4 only
Shortcut to new messages etc via the lock screen
LED notification blink rate (WAY TO long wait)
•Should I deliver the device back and take a chance that Sony will fix this? Or should I expect Sony to already have implemented this if they were smart enough from the beginning?
Generally speaking Sony always are a bit behind(1-3months) on several features that you expect, it's normal for Sony and that won't change.
•I see people are mentioning firmware updates already. I don't have these (UK version, living in Norway)
Once again when it comes to firmware updates they usually release them piece by piece in different regions which can take weeks for some regions while for some it usually takes hours after they announce them
•Will this device be rooted flawlessly in the future without camera brick?
Seeing as Sony has established a good connection with developers I have confidence in Sony that as soo nas they sort everything out then they will be ready to open up everything without bricking the camera or other things
•How is Sony's history regarding updates on their devices?
Back in the X10 days it was pretty bad but if you ask me right now I would say that they are one of the better ones. They were first to commit to updating to Kitkat so thats a positive sign for the future seeing as the phone is a week old.. Lately Sony phones has 18months update spans which is pretty decent
Extra: Live wallpapers is available just longpress on a empty space in the homescreen and choose Wallpaper > Live wallpaper

More apps in the menu is possible only with a folder.

I think you need to keep in mind that Sony delivers a very stock and basic feature set. While Samsung is LOADED with features and whatnot, Sony keeps it very clean.
Look at sony like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and at Samsung like this:
because that's what basically going on. Based on that fact, I don't think Sony will change their vision in that respect. Sony will keep their phones from being loaded with often useless features while Samsung keeps 'innovating' (IMO) and adding features. So if you expect Sony to add tons and tons of software features, you may be better off selling your Z1 and getting a note 3, or of course keep your S4 since it's still a great device it seems.
On the bug-related side, I think it's pretty safe to say that Sony will solve these issues. Since the release of the Z1 we've already had 4 updates, these, at least as far as most of us can see, didn't add/fix a whole lot, but they are updates and that's important. It means Sony most likely has a good team of developers working on the Z1 and trying to improve it. (note: it looks like it, nothing is guaranteed) Please also keep in mind this is a very new device and we still have a long time to go, you should give them some time I think.
Now to (try to) answer your questions:
This is your own decision, I think you should wait a bit to see if Sony indeed fixes some of the bugs you mentioned.
This is depended on the region you are in. You can always get the latest software here on XDA and flash it using flashtool.
Yes.
I didn't own any Sony devices before to be honest. From what I've read though Sony wasn't good at all in the beginning. Bringing out a device with Android 1.5 I believe it was while 'we' were already on 2.1 or 2.2. When Sony came to the market with their new developer friendly mindset though it became all a lot better. AOSP is now officially supported by Sony for a couple of devices. They offered a totally different OS for one phone. (Firefox OS, for a low-end phone though) They really seem to be getting their stuff together and I expect to see Sony continue these actions.
I think I look at phones differently than you. I don't like leaving a computer with only the software it came with on it. That's what these phones are now a days, mobile computers. The last thing on my mind when I choose a phone is the applications it runs. I always buy android phones do to their customizable nature. I don't like a phone to tell me what apps I should be using. Anything you don't have or anything you could want can generally be found in an app store or custom rom. Have you ever installed an app on your computer? I doubt very few people leave their desktop computers stock without installing itunes or something.
To me even apps provided by sony is too much i reduce the apps.. my previous one since i updated to Z1 can only used as phone i.e calls and messaging.. i may need certain tasks not found stock... some specialised app... which i install additionally... my friend tells the phone is not lively...i keep white wallpaper... one homescreen etc... not an issue. I love the Z1 design, gallery, the screen, camera and performance.. only negative i felt is crappy sound...thats it... so it is personal if a person like a phone... i think you can disable notification in messaging and install handcent to achieve your goal.. if you root you can remove native messaging app too..
Open Source Developer support has always been good to me... on my Xperia S alone, I have a choice of 10-15 different ROMs! 5-10 of which are still being actively developed! I get almost weekly updates from these amazing developers... don't even get me started on Xperia Z...
I love having this support because I prefer to keep my phone as bloatfree as possible... as close to stock android as possible but still have the Sony UI latest features (like right now I have Xperia S but with Z1 looking UI and Z1 features)...
If I want live wallpapers, I'll go to playstore download a few... If I want a different UI, I can go and download APEX or NOVA Launchers...
I had a few samsungs and LGs before but I love the Sony UI a lot more because of its simplicity... and they way they hide functions (like small apps, access by long pressing home button) to keep the UI clean... for me this is a case of less is more...
LGs and Samsungs just has too much functions that I rarely use, loaded in your UI (like they would put everything in the pull down notifications, or put everything in settings etc.) its just very messy... True that Sony UI may take some time to adjust, but once you do, you will never want to go back to LG Samsung bloated UI...
Just my 2 cents
Thanks for all the answers people. To me honest I were expecting flame wars and getting attacked by irrational fan boys. Nice to see we can keep the discussion at a grown up and realistic manner. Don't see that often on forums nowadays.

Do you think we'll be able to install vanilla Android, Cyanogen mod and do exactly how we like? I've always been a fan of stock room, but it need to suit my needs and be perfect. I actually think the Samsungs S3 and S4 TouchWiz is amazing. Maybe a few unecessary features, but all in all I love it.

Thanks for this tip. Very happy
At the end of the day it's your personal preference and I agree with others here Sony provides a clutter free clean UI which is very much like a stock Nexus UI with little features added and the best thing about android is you can download apps and customize the hell out of it to get it to where you want.
P.S This thread strictly speaking belongs in the Q&A section
Moderator: feel free to move thread
I have desided to keep my Z1 and see what happens. Based on the replies from you guys and some heavy thinking I think Sony deserves a chance on fixing the minor bugs. The rest of the stuff I can live with and even download as apps. Now I should just sit tight and wait for updates and hope for the best.

Nah you don't really have to. The difference between the questions you asked and the question(s) other people ask is that you don't go in full 'attack-mode' so to speak. You have arguments for why you think a certain thing and it just opens up for a good discussion where people will give well argumented replies.
TL;DR you don't come across as a spoiled cretin.

The OP was very respectful and asked legitimate questions, so he got respectful and legitimate answers :good:
Just my 2 cents:
I used Galaxies since SGS II and loved them.
When I got my ZU one week ago and my Z1 two days ago I had a hard time to "learn" a new UI and missed some Galaxy features.
But as it is with everything new I got acquainted with Sony UI VERY fast and now I LOVE the easy and fast handling. Sony UI fits more to my needs than Sammy's ever did...
Sent from my C6833 using xda app-developers app
Regarding roms, we're already seeing the early stages of CyanogenMod (and that also means AOSP-support) for the Z1, mere weeks (week?) after its release. This speaks volumes I think, and I am not surprised, Sony (as opposed to Samsung in this case) have won the hearts of developers across the globe by being very open and supportive regarding 3rd-party development on their devices. Source code and binary blobs for the Z1 were released a week prior to the availability of the device.
In fact, there were actually people who ported TouchWiz to the predecessor Xperia Z, and I fully expect the same to happen with the Xperia Z1, in case you really can't let the Samsung UI go.
Bottom line, pick the hardware you like best, the community (or the manufacturer, but more often the community) will solve your software issues 9 times out of 10 in my experience. Obviously this only applies to devices where the first party developers are open with the source code, and Sony most certainly are. So select the hardware you like best from the subset of devices where proper source code is available.
Personally I love that Sonys UI is so close to AOSP, yet still gives off a more refined experience, without really losing anything.
Thanks troed and Rekoil for your 2 cents. Really helped a lot. I have desided to keep my wonderful Z1 as I have, as you also mentioned, given it a chance and I love the simplicity of the phone and how fast is it. It was diffiult first, but now I can't imagine me going back to Galaxy. Your posts made me even more secure of my desision Mostly because I can expect some nice roms with root in the future.
I can say I miss root since I want Droidwall app so that I can close WLAN or 3G connection for chosen apps.

Anyone did this? Is it safe?
I’m about to purchase a XZ1 Compact and have some questions before jumping onboard the Xperia bandwagon;
1a) The phone supports UMTS 1700/2100, Bands 4, 7, 13 and 66, all of which are what I need for Freedom Mobile (Wind) compatibility. As far as I know, LTE switching on the Freedom network is buggy unless the phone is flashed with the larger XZ1 firmware. Does this void warranty?
1b) If I receive an OTA update to Android 8.1 for the phone and it’s already had it’s firmware flashed, will I need to reflash the firmware from the XZ1?
1c) Does a factory reset also reset the flashed firmware?
1d) Any video tutorials on how to do this? Visual There’s this reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/freedommob...uide_xpost_rsonyxperia_modifying_xz1_compact/ But an on-screen step-by-step would be best.
2) Does EIS still work in 3rd party camera apps like Camera FV-5? If so, is the quality in third party apps on par with Sony’s stock application?
3) Does the use of Nova Launcher allow me to swap app icons to stock Android icons?
4) With the nearing Mobile World Congress next month and some rumored devices, what is the chance of a XZ2 Compact being announced next month? I’m feeling like if I bite the bullet now and get the XZ1 Compact, I might regret if a successor was announced soon.
5) When connecting the phone to a Mac, does mounting the MicroSD card on Macs display it as an external drive or do I still have to use Android File Transfer?

Making modifications to the firmware, especially involving flashing firmware from a different model, definitely voids warranty.
If you ever need warranty service, just flash clean original stock firmware, and you should be good to go.

You'll likely be unable to install OTA updates since your firmware would be modified (assuming you followed the guide). You will still get update notifications though, but attempts to install will fail.
If you do wish to update, you'd probably have to manually do so using Xperia Companion or a third-party tool like flashtool or newflasher, then apply the modifications again.

No, it stays on the same version, just with all your data wiped.

Not sure, but given how locked down their camera is and Sony's love for keeping proprietary stuff off-limits, I won't bet on it.

I'm willing to bet good money on "NO". History has shown the compact variant usually announced and released in the bottom half of the year on a yearly basis.
So you'd be enjoying the latest and greatest compact for at least another six months.
EDIT: Welp, just heard a rumor that may cause me to lose my bet, so I'm going to redact my previous comment.
According to the rumor, they might be announcing a new compact at MWC 2018, which is about a month from now. However, suppose they do, it'll probably be weeks if not months until it's actually released and available, so you'll have to decide if it's worth it to wait that long, there's also the possibility that the rumor is false.
The way I see it, the XZ1C is a top of the line phone, a newer model isn't going to suddenly make it obsolete, it will still perform like a champ.
Not to mention the trend of Sony removing features from their phones compared to the previous generation, the rumored new compact might be gimped even more than the XZ1C, maybe it'll lose the headphone jack or something, hard to say.

Wow, so many questions.
It's the best compact that Sony have made.
Buy it.
Both Xperia Companion and Android File Transfer will mount the internal storage and the SD card in an application-specific window. To the best of my knowledge, you cannot mount the phone and SD card directly in the Mac Finder, as you can using Windows Explorer.

Given the sizing, I'm out. I'd wait if it kept the form factor but increased the screen size... OR kept the screen size and shrunk the phone. Also, not a fan of 18:9 ratio.
Samsung said that all flagships after and including the S10 will get 3 years of Android OS updates. It's a bit unfair for us Note9 and S9 users so I created a petition to Samsung asking them to reconsider adding the S9, S9+ and Note9 to the 3 year major updates support program as well. Here's the link: https://www.change.org/p/samsung-give-android-11-oneui-3-0-to-galaxy-note9-s9-phones
The more people that sign it the better chance we have of Samsung acknowledging it!

The petition won't do anything. I truly hate being that person but there's no way in this world or the next that a petition on xda will make Samsung ad an older device to their new statement. It's not smart for their business, gives them no real benefits or anything. You gotta realize they aren't thinking of the handful of us who still hold onto the 9 series of phones whether it be S or Note... Their business is to sell new electronics not to keep old ones on life support that they keep recharging every so often.

Don't worry, I know we 99.9% won't get it. Just decided to explore how this works and made it as another xda user requested it. I'm ok with 2.5 as I just want wireless DeX - other stuff is a bonus that's in 2.5.
Please stop. Please.
I feel like a petition might work for an iPhone, because, well, you either have an iPhone or a thousand variants of an Android phone. Having one of two out of those thousand variants doesn't amass to a whole lot of people, certainly not enough for Samsung to actually do something about it. Good luck, though. I did sign it. But again, it's more than likely a lost cause. The three year deal didn't start until AFTER the Note9.
Feels like we need to have this same conversation once every smartphone generation. Recap:
Breathing life into old electronics is not good business. Samsung is a business, they're in it for the money. Introducing new features for old phones will not sell new hardware; if anything, it will cause Samsung to sell less new hardware. Less sales means less revenue. That's why it's bad for business.
Developing software for additional platforms consumes more resources; resources which could be used for advancing development of newer hardware, and better software for said newer hardware. Again, why waste resources into something that will cause you to sell fewer next-gen phones?
Let me reiterate. Samsung is a business. They will not make poor business decisions to benefit users who hang on to old hardware instead of buying new hardware. End of story.
@oddbehreif As I said before I don't have much hope but seeing how the S10s got 3 years support and the Note10 Lite is THE SAME PHONE as the Note9 and will get Android 11 I decided to make this. I'll be perfectly happy with OneUI 2.5 as I'll get wireless DeX then but it's fun to see how change.org works and to spam the link on every Samsung or smartphone tech video and watch the numbers rise.
It will not working.

Android 11 may be unlikely to be provided to Note 9 by Samsung, I am not sure your statement that it's not possible (technically ?) is correct.
I may have misunderstood the context of your post.
My understanding is Samsung have indicated it will be providing Android 11 to all Note 10 / S10 and later, I believe one of these included phones has essentially the same hardware so obviously possible.
Finally I believe Note 9 is project Treble compatible / compliant so this would indicate it's technically possible and not as difficult as pre -Treble phones to be provided future Android updates

Dude, we already have Treble support on this. When the new GSI drops, just install that.
I've seen many of these petitions and none worked.
We will just hope that some dev will port the SM-N770F update to the SM-N960F/G96xF family

I dont wanna spark any hope in sight, but, either this is typical Samsung negligence from their side, or they mistakenly took this upon.
They have an app called GPU Watch, which is pretty much a FPS Real Time counter for people who game.
If you head in their app's website, there's a table showing support for the app's version and SDK. Weirdly, Note9/S9 are on the Android R list as well.

Hi Guys,
First of all, Merry Christmas everyone !!!
-- Hope you've all been on Santa's good list this year... ;-) lol
You may, or may not already know this... but whilst looking summit up for my dad (as we bought him a new phone for Xmas) I discovered this site.... It tells you the life of our Xiaomi products.
When they shipped, when Security Updates will end, what version of Android it shipped with, and what version of Android it will end on.
As you can see from the list below...

You may already be aware of this site, but just thought it was an interesting find, as it tells us what version they plan to give us before they kill it.... ;-)
Talking of which, does anyone know what the Internal model name is for the Redmi 10 2022 phone. As we got this for our dad, due to price point. We knew it was cheaper and inferior to the Redmi Note 11. But it hit a certain price point, and although the specs were similar, apart from CPU and older storage format and less of it... went for this one.
However confused by its internal name, some places/apps hint at it being called "Selene" and some apps are calling it "EOS", but they've listed this as both the "board" and "device" so makes me think the device is faulty...?? I'll post pictures of that part later....
Cheers, Lister

Hi Sheist!,
Thanks for a prompt reply, ah ok so that would explain the "Selene" reference then, that it was from the older/original R10 model...
Its weird how some apps pick it up as Selene, and some are picking it up as EOS...?? Guess need to do some more research, and now need to double check I have actually got the 2022 model as thats what we ordered/paid for...
It was acting a bit off (well, compared to my SPESN model) and considering it was brand new and sealed, there was some odd grease marks on the screen protector from a brand new phone...? I didnt see the phone as soon as it was opened, so was a chance my dad could of added them. But thought it was a bit quick for those marks.
Now need to check its actually a 2022 model more than anything, and try work out why its showing up as EOS unless that really is its model....
Thats how I found the support page above, as it was EOS, End Of Support, End Of Service, End Of Security...
Thanks again for quick reply, appreciated...
Cheers, Lister
Merry Christmas Mr lister sir
Yeah as sheist said both models technically look identical , same screen , cpu and cameras . Have you tried the cpu-z app on the play store , that's normally pretty good at giving details about the system . It's the one with 50M+ downloads , don't install the malware ridden imitators
Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year to you too Mr Bernard Blacks, Bookshop.... ;-)
Xiaomi don't like to inovate much do they, so not only are the R10's (got becare using the 's on the R10 models, as they use S in their products too... lol) 2021/2022 similar, but all their other products are similar too.... So the R10 2022 is similar to the R11 Note in spec, apart from CPU, Storage technology and Screen OLED/IPS. Apart from that, same looks, size, shape, spec, features..... lol
I believe the camera's although same MegaPixels and alignments, I believe the R10 is actually slightly better, from what I read too... but we're talking like 0.5 of an upgrade. Must admit, I am impressed with the photos it takes....
So I used CPU Z on my dads phone, and I am convinced it is the latter model, 2022.... It just has a rather odd naming convention. So it shows similar data as the other apps. However the model of this phone is now: EOS-EEA ?
What a poor naming convention, or unfortunate name... practically says the phone is End Of Service/Security/Support.... lol
Anyway, for the money, its not a bad phone... (even better if we had got it at the discount price.... but sadly Argos and everywhere were sold out for weeks. When they got it back, it went up £50 lol ). But considering how similar it is to ours, minus the CPU being MediaTek... They've narf stripped the OS back, not a patch feature wise as our model. Must think the CPU can't cope... ;-) Despite it being a MediaTek (not a fan) must admit its still very fast/snappy....OS and Apps seem responsive enough....
Cheers, Lister
Talking of cameras , seen anything worth trying out yet ? I e been playing around with bsg 8.5 .. just as bad as the rest lol
And I thought of Argos straight away , I've been waiting for em to drop the price of tablets , which they did and as usual none in stock
The easiest way to find the device designation is with Device HW Info. Root is not needed. I cannot find it using the stock Xiaomi ROM. Look at the Device line under the 3rd column of System. I do not need NFC so mine is spes.
