Hello
anyone noticed why it's only possible to lock 4 apps to RAM on the 16GB/512GB S21 Ultra? I do have 8-9GB RAM FREE after I locked 4 apps that I could use to lock more apps...what is Samsung thinking with that brutal limitation? also only possible to lock 1 app on the regular S21 with 8GB is also very stupid...

Are your apps getting killed if you don't lock them in RAM? How many apps do you intend to keep locked in RAM all the time? I'm just asking out of curiosity as I've never used this feature before and would like to know where this would be useful. I only have a 12GB variant though.

no but sometimes I have alot of apps in the list that I don't bother swiping to remove and just press close all and the apps I choose to lock stays in the list...I just think it's a waste of RAM not to be able to lock more apps when it clearly could take more, they also removed the feature were you could lock apps to the recent menu without locking it to RAM.
it's useful for example if I don't lock the Internet browser to RAM and if I start writing something on forum or whatever and if I close the browser by swiping it from the recent list and open it again it reloads the page and removes what I wrote.

Ahhh...Ok. Got it.
What happens if you don't swipe to kill apps at all?
Like you said, what's the point of having so much RAM if you don't even use it? All your used apps will stay in that huge RAM right? Including your browser and any other apps that you deem critical (you could also add them to the list of never sleeping apps under battery settings)...
And if there's an app that you always kill out of habit after exiting (that you don't want running in the backgrounnd), just add it to the deep sleeping apps list and the phone will auto disable it once it goes to background.
I know it's not what you're looking for, but I think it will acheive the same result. Just trying to think of alternatives to the lock-in-RAM thingy. I'm not sure if you can lock more than Samsung permitted number of apps in RAM without root.

if I don't swipe to kill apps they stay in the RAM but sometimes I just want to clear the recent apps and then it closes the apps that are not locked into RAM.
yes there is no other way to do this unfortunately if Samsung won't release firmware update that allows for more apps to be locked to RAM, it does not matter what I do now, if I close all apps in recent list then they get killed.

Most probably widgets have nothing to do with lag, but the feed widget and some weather widget will drain you battery faster since they must be syncing a lot.
Normaly free ram is low most of times, because Android put apps there to load them faster when you need them, but running processes will in fact affect your phone performace, check out if there is anything running that you don't need and close it.
Just recently, I changed from custom roms to stock roms, and I think stock roms are a little more responsive.

I have like 5 or 6 apps installed and free memory is curently on 129mb.
Running stock JVT.
You should try your apps and keep only the ones you need or use, anything else will just slow down your phone (and drain battery)

Try using advanced task killer pro. In setting set kill mode to crazy. It automatically kills unused apps on screen lock.
Android starts to lag if RAM falls below 50MB. So, you should try removing some apps.

Android. Is. Not. Windows.
Android kills apps when it needs memory. If it doesn't need memory, it does not kill apps; if you do, it will relaunch apps—this is because it is more efficient to have apps cached in memory for when you want to use them, as opposed to relaunching the app every time you need it.
Killing apps does one thing: it causes the Android system to utilize free RAM by launching more apps. Doing so takes processing power, and does nothing but drain your battery.

I've read this to be true, task killers are not a good idea on android, it is better to delete unused apps, or have them backed up with titanium in case you need them.
why shud i uninstall apps even if they r not running in background?
and why when i click the home button while am on an app the app closes instead of staying in background
And am on jvs now shud i update to jvt ??

Because Android decided that app needed to be closed in order to reclaim memory for other purposes. If you're unhappy with the way Android manages your RAM, there are various options available to tweak it. Adjusting the amount of RAM the system keeps free will allow for better multi-tasking.

Hi,
I am the founder of LevelUp Studio. Some of you know us for Beautiful Widgets and Plume.
We are working on a new app and now we are starting our beta.
Discover QUAD Drawer.

Quad is the quickest way to launch applications.
The first version of the beta is simple, you have access to a T9 or regular keyboard to filter apps, and 3 options to sort your apps.
With this two features, you will be able to launch your apps faster.
In the future we will add more features and would like your feedback/ideas on it
3 permissions are asked :
Write external storage is used for our internal logger
Install shortcut is used to put a shortcut of an app on the homescreen
Internet is used for the internal updates (HockeyApp) and the anonymous statistics (Google Analytics)
If you want to join our beta test, please visit our community on Google+ : https://plus.google.com/communities/114144688961583518202
You can make your feedback here or there.
Enjoy your tests !

Hi there,
I just stumbled over your thread and tried your app. It's an interesting concept, I'll play a little with it. But for now: cool!
And thank you for sharing!

Thank you for your feedback.
We made a gif to show you how the app is working.
And our description :
You asked us what Quad is ? At first, we deliberately gave you no information in order to gather your spontaneous feedbacks. So, what is Quad ? See this post...
Quad stands for "QUick App Drawer"
First, you can sort your app list. Depending on your needs you can sort them by recent activity, by amount of launches, by download date or simply by names. All your favorite apps are brought to you effortlessly.
But what about all your other apps, the ones you launch once or twice in the week? With Quad you'll be able to found and launch an app very quickly by using the predictive keyboard.
For example, type "758" to find and launch Plume for Twitter
Why is it so fast ? Because most of the time, only one or two keys will be enough to find the app you need.
With time, Quad learns the apps you use the most and gives them a better rank when you perform a search.
For us, Quad aims to replace the default drawer. Thus, we added its basic features. With a long press, you'll be able to quickly reach actions to perform on your apps like uninstalling them, sending shorcuts on the homescreen, viewing their details or opening them in Play Store.
These features are only the first steps, Quad improvement is still in progress and that's why we need your feedbacks.
In the future we'll add more cool stuff and it may go beyond apps launching... So, keep in touch!

Hi jorodan,
I like the floating window in your new version! Strangely it's position is moving if I start an app from within the launcher. Moreover it would be cool if the it could be disabled in running apps. Sometimes it's on the wrong place, like the keyboard. Maybe it would be helpful if it could only be activated for the homescreen?

Hi Jorodan,

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback!
There's indeed an issue that has been fixed in development. This fix will be available in the next beta.
Just wanted to kudos you people for this awesome app, just missing 'use as launcher' 'force orientation' and 'direct call to a number' options, with those you can replace 3 or 4 default apps, just with this one.. well maybe making it a bit faster could be good too
Right now I'm using Xposed's module App settings to force portrait orientation and Target Home Launcher to use it as home launcher, but best would be having those options in the app.
Hi People, I have my 8.4 LTE Exynos for 2 weeks now. I rooted it on the second day, debloated/frozen unnecessary apps. However, my RAM still uses up to 2.4gb which leaves me 300mb free.
Im noticing lags while playing SimCity, Deadtrigger2 and more. What annoys me is the FB Messenger lag.
Just want to know if any of you experience the same. I bought this tablet because of 3gb ram so that i can still install dozens of apps without lagging.
also, im using appsetting from xposed to keep hangouts, phone, contacts and Nova launcher in memory/keep resident, however when i open phone and hangouts, it seems that they are not in memory since it takes 2 seconds to load/display in the screen.

Actually mine doesn't lag when playing any high graphics games except that it just drains the battery faster than a hot potato.
If you are using a different launcher I suggest you disable touchwiz at it is resident and eats up memory however you will lose the ability to multiwindow and other features.
Also download greenify and enable its exposed mode to hide apps in the background to save memory
Clear dalvik cache to zipalign your apps.
And by default my system apps stay resident in my memory. Check if you have a firmware update
I've never experienced such thing. Are you using CM 12? That's too much ram used.
Could you show us your running apps? Without games
Stock android, debloated usibg debloater. 1.25 gb ram in use, never hit anything higher then 1.9.
Lollipop dropping as I type, report back when you get it

No, Even during initial setup it was like this
Do you have root right now ?
Basically the miui doesn't kill the app when you close/ leave it.Download something like avast cleaner in the Playstore and close/force the apps listed.Hate to say it but don't expect wonderful things from this phone.Mtk cpu and the biggest problem the miui interface atm.

Can I leave it unrooted?
I checked battery stats and it says 75% is taken by screen time. Is there any app that works without rooting and can show the tasks occupying CPU time?
Mmm let me see what ROM are you on global,EU, and what version.
This phone especially some roms are famous for a heavy load off bloatware, ads, tracking, collection off data.mix that with a very in my opinion really bad miui software.
Because you're screen takes the most battery drain most likely we could rule out a third party app.leaves us with system apps.
I had the same as you're phone out off the box freezes.
I debloat my phone installed a alternative launcher with addquard.its not a rocket but it's most off the time ok only use it as back up.
Basically I can't think off a very easy way to get detailed information right now.Even you have root system dump log .even then you have a load off info.system tracing is available but takes time to learn and understand.
I'm on global rom, 12.0.6.
I thought chrome was the problem and disabled it but I still have these 100% cpu spikes every few minutes.
Global ROM is not the cleanest ROM out there.i am not at home right now so I can't check on my other phone if we can get some information out of a non rooted phone.
I would like to point out this page.
Saki EU tool Szaki used it on global 12.03
You don't need root just read the page and run.chrome is no light weight but a mi browser with adds and tracking is no joy either.
Well because I did use this phone only for work.Testing, sharing I only do in emulators. So dropped in the phone with my son to kill it basically what we found out.its not the CPU it is android 10 what request around 2gb of ram ideally. So we got 1gb left normal it should kill processing apps if it runs out of memory.
Now the mi shell miui is holding on 2,2 GB if you play games like asphalt 8,9 zombie hunter, armor god,af arena it is killing itself.
Disable miui or/and give the miui a order to automatically close apps he really don't like that.
So the CPU runs at 100% because off the shortage in memory so in theory we only have 2gb of ram.A android 10 runs idle already around 1,6 gb.So it's no wonder why it lags big
time on a lot.
The fix create a swap file on you're android device.ram expended root ,swapper root,link2sd with gapps root.there is a APK available what create a swap file on you're sd card ,take a good card do.no root.
A video to give you idea how it can run with an without a 3 GB swap file.Even with a 1gb swap file you should walk out the woods
1 to 8 minutes testing 4 games
8 to 11 minutes FPS test .
Last part starting without v memory stuck at boot screen.
Hi, i recently purchased the regular Samsung Galaxy S23 and i have some weird issues with the touch.
The most annoying one is when i get out of an app say for instance 9gag/instagram and then i attempt to lock the screen by double tapping, sometimes one of the taps isn't registered and as you might expect, nothing happens. This also happens when trying to like a post on instagram, or anything related to the double tap.
Another issue occurs sometimes, when i try to just tap something, sometimes i have to tap like 2 or 4 times for the tap to register, as if i didn't tap correctly.
I tried enabling Touch Sensitivity but it didn't help at all.
I wonder if anyone else occured this problem and fixed it, or if it's just my phone. I recently applied a screen protector, hoping the issue was more about the screen being too slippery, but it didn't seem to help at all.
P.S it's a model manufactured in april, not the one with the banana camera issue.
Put into safe mode and see if a 3rd party app causing the issue. If so... take out the trash.
Try clearing the system cache.
Try a hard reboot.

Never use it for critical data; it can fail you miserably. Use Samsung Contacts to import/export contacts and create backup files. Copy/paste critical data then verify file size and if readable. Make at least 2 redundant copies on drives that are physically and electronically isolated from each other and the PC.
It's possible using SmartSwitch goofed up the load. I've used it and it's predecessor Kies, both are buggy particularly if going between different models or OS versions. I may need to reload one of my N10+'s because of that Best thing to do is not to use it and put together a complete, organized critical data backup plan then refresh it regularly.

Okay so i used safe mode for like an hour and then reverted to regular. I can't seem to tell if it's fixed or any different, because this doesn't happen "all the time". I will give it some time and then i'll come with a better response.
Another thought came to me..
What if the double tapping issue comes from when i do the first tap of the double tap, i somehow do a little swipe down and the phone registers it as such? Is there a way to reduce the slipperiness/smoothness of the screen to counteract this? i wouldn't mind if my screen would be less smooth, but i feel like this would really help.

I think it's probably a 3rd party app.
I don't like gesture navigation as they implemented it at all. On my N10+'s I use Galaxy Store Good Lock Navstar and One Handed Operation plus which is the gesture navigation I use. On a large the side gesture navigation works better for me but I use the virtual buttons a lot too.
