Question Is there no way to get the old Scene Optimizer back? - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

I like the old one where it can detect a lot of scenes and adjust accordingly. Was nice for quick IG sharing. With the latest update it seems you only get it for night shots and macros maybe...

I don't think the camera app can be uninstalled on a stock Samsung. Samsung may update/fix it latter.
Short of the above, something you missed in settings (there are many), a firmware roll back, you could try clearing the system cache.
If you did a major upgrade ie 11 to 12, do a factory reset if you haven't already.
I stop updating firmware if the OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission. Updates tend to break things. Use more, fix less...

No amount of factory resetting, cache clearing or digging into settings will help. That is how the camera functions on one UI 4. The scene optimiser has been neutered. Older features may be added to the camera in the future, but for now there's no way to get the various scenes triggered based on viewfinder context. To get that back, you have to return to one UI 3.1 or try to find a third party camera app that allows you to do so. To the best of my knowledge only the stock camera app can tap into the computational photography prowess of this phone using all lenses.

Odd move by Samsung. At least the released that RAW camera app for when I want more raw data to work with

Is Android supposed to be stable?

Maybe im expecting too much:
When I press gallery, almost 1/3 of the time only 1 or 2 categories come up and no thumbnails. Then i exit and press again and a few more things show up. Then i exit again and usually the 3rd time or so the app opens properly.
Also, about once every 2 weeks i press an app and it opens a different app. And this happens with multiple apps. The only way to fix it is to reboot.
I dont use a task manager
I reboot the phone every couple of days
I wipe the phone about once every 1 or 2 months
Is one of the above practices ruining my device?
I bought the phone and i havent done anything custom to it. Why does my polished 2.1 firmware work like a 5th grade science experiment?
Have occasionally noticed that the gallery app does not pick up all images and categories... something with the media scanner... try using the media scanner in the dev tools app or unmount and remount ur sd card...
Never had any problems with apps opening wrong apps... this is very strange... I have no idea why this is happening and quite frankly, I can;t think of anything which would serve as a possible solution!
Occasionally I've had the latest picture taken not show up in the gallery, but that's it. Stock O/S is great.
Never had it open the wrong app.
I don't run a task killer, don't reboot & have never wiped.
About the app opening the wrong app thing I guess its good news if I'm the only one. Is it possible that I've downloaded an app that is causing it? Or is it more likely an OS issue? it seems a little cheesy that the phone does this, if I could fix it without rebooting that would be a step in the right direction...
Likely an app you downloaded, or just something a little off about the flashing of your update, or a bad RAM memory block at the wrong place.
As for the gallery, I thought I had that issue a bit too, but I noticed that more than anything it just takes a really long time to open fully if it has been kicked out of the cache.
As for the original question posed in the thread title, Android is still Beta in a lot of ways. 2.0/1 is a huge change in many ways from 1.6. It sounds like 2.2 is going to be a bit of a change as well, but instead of changing nearly everything, it is going to build of 2.0/1 plus add in some changes. I am willing to bet that until the release after Gingerbread (the OS after 2.2, aka FroYo), not sure what the "H" release will be codenamed will we see an OS that isn't "Beta" in enough ways for me to call it non-Beta personally... then again, so far Android is less buggy than windows mobile, better than Blackberry even, and on par with iPhone OS, if not better in these regards.
Just like an OS for a computer, same holds true for a smartphone, there are going to be bugs, there are going to be bad programs/apps, and so forth.
I think you should wait for FroYo, if Android still doesn't meet your standards, root and flash some of the custom ROMs. Enom is very stock like, but fixes many of the little bugs, as does Cyan, although with Cyan you do get a few more bugs in some of the development apps and what not.
Just a thought, but maybe you're suffering from the occasional wacky touchscreen issue?
So it's not that it's just opening the wrong app, but the screen is registering a touch in a different place, it's usually most noticable when typing. If it is that, then a simple lock/unlock will solve it, no need for a reboot.

Cyanogenmod camera - crappy?

Hi,
it s my 3rd phone where i changed from stock to cyanogenmod as i really like a clean and light OS. Like with my Motorola Phone before the only "problem" i have, or what i m missing is the Stock Camera. Why Cyanogenmod is not focusing on the camera ap more? Even the UI is .....
I think most for most of the mobile users the camera is one of the most important features (at least its the main topic in almost every product presentation)
You can always use another camera app.. In Play Store there are plenty of feature-rich applications. CM's one is not bad. Clean and simple.

OK, real talk: is installing a custom ROM worth it?

Like many of you, I've had my phone for over two years now - that's quite some time! In the span of time I've owned this phone, I never unlocked the bootloader, rooted, installed a custom ROM, flashed any unofficial updates or modified anything in any way.
However, performance has decreased. A lot. Apps take a lot of time to open, the launcher reloads on the regular, SystemUI crashes on a weekly basis, some apps fail to start and they only finally run after multiple attempts. And, even though i set my SD card as internal storage, not many apps can be moved there and it's all fighting for storage in the narrow narrow internal storage partition. The RAM situation is even worse, with apps like Spotify and Chrome being killed all the time. Install one App too much and watch everything lose frames.
The Moto G5 Plus looks like a fantastic phone, but since I'm waiting for its value to drop to a more appropriate price tag, it looks like my next upgrade is not as close as I would like it to be. And since I don't want to keep wanting to throw my Moto on the floor every single day, I've been getting my feet wet into the modding world and what a custom ROM is and what Greenify is etc etc.
However, I've heard very mixed feelings about custom ROMs. Say, if I were to install the official LineageOS 14.1 from the LineageOS website, without root, would it be worth it? What compromises have to be made? Does it really improve performance and battery life? Is the stability ready for daily usage? And also, does the camera quality change? I haven't been able to find an answer for any of these questions. In short - is it worth the trouble or is the stock ROM just better after all? I don't care about root (I'd rather NOT have it, even), I don't care about customization, themes, XPosed or whatnot. I just want a ROM that I can flash on my phone, install my Apps on it, use it until my Moto G5 Plus ships and then completely forget it's a custom ROM.
I tell you my opinion:
I think the CYAN project, now lineage, is a wonderful thing for those who want and have time to spare to look for how to push the most of your device, but I must say that the only solution to have an efficient phone is to give up the app superfluous and wipe useless data on the internal memory. In this way with the latest stock my motog 2014 goes very well.
sorry for poor english
I have Moto G XT1068 since novembre 2014 and i think it's nowaday a good phone.
Remember that i dont' play games.
My phone had stock rom until 1 month ago and i went very well with stock rom.
Every 4/6 months i used to have a factory reset also erasing my sd and the system is always good.
From 1 month i use LineageOS and it's good.
Some settings are missing, like the ability to deactivate sim cards, but everything else works.
Battery is, in my opinion, better that stock, but take in mind i use a task killer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhythm.hexise.task
There are some things that i made, like deactivating some apps from lineage like camera, browser, gallery, calculator, cLock, calendar, email, music, weather service. I replaced them with Google Apps, while for gallery and Camera i use the same Moto G 2014 camera and gallery from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/themes-apps/official-motorola-camerav5-0-21-4-t3121709
Camera app from Lineage in my opinion is terrible: hdr freezes, too much settings and confusing; i love Moto G2014 stock camera, but with Lineage slow motion doesn't work; likely it works in Lineage.
Very good battery, system is stable and fast, you have one hand mode, you have screen splitting, you have lots of quick settings personalible.
In my opinion is hust ready to be a daybyday rom, more efficient than stock 6.0, hoping next nightlies don't have problems, that can succeed.
But with regular twrp backup i don't think youll'have problems.

Thank you, I'm going to do some more spring cleaning then. I'm definitely not interested in babysitting my software every day. I went through that phase on iOS with jailbreak and daemons, and all in all it was not worth it. I deleted some Apps and gave up the Google Now Launcher in favour of the leaner Evie launcher and I must say the situation has improved tangibly! The biggest improvement was after getting rid of Snapchat. Instagram stories does it anyway. Still, there are some combos that are still really prohibitive (Namely, Chrome + Spotify and Sworkit + Spotify), but it's a bit better. Battery life still sucks at just a little more than 2h screen on time with light usage, but since I don't have much off time and since I typically don't use my phone a lot during it, it's not a debilitating problem right now. However, I know that during summer having so little battery life will be unpractical, and by then I'll be looking to upgrade!

Thank you, I'll be considering this option as well! I'm glad the CM Apps can be disabled since they are pretty basic compared to Google's counterparts and I don't like having a double copy of everything. And I agree - I had to install Cyanogenmod on a cheap Chinese phone (Luckily it's not the phone I use daily.) and the camera and gallery apps were just atrocious. As for the WebView Chrome comes with one so it's good. As of right now, I've been able to improve performance a bit following the recommendations from another user, so I'll see whether to install LOS or now.

Hi there! Your comment makes me want even more to try Lineage OS in my Moto g2 xt1068 as well, but I'm not even able to find out how to root my phone. You know, thinking kind of "I'm gonna make explode the poor phone because I'm really new at this"

It's not difficult but may happen your phone has problems and goes in bootloop.
You have to learn how to:
- unlook bootloader: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/wip-unlock-bootloader-moto-g-2nd-gen-t2875728
- install recovery and root: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/xt1063-t3018818
- After that, download rom and flash via twrp: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-14-0-t3458931

Various phone problems (P20 Pro)

Hi all,
I did make a thread as a guest user but unfortunately I can't find it anymore so I've made an account and I'll repost/better explain the issues I've come across.
1) RAM Management
Whenever I close all active apps it says it has around 3GB of memory available, the phone comes with 6GB of memory so I'm wondering why it's only giving me 3GB available, surely the OS can't be using the other 3GB to run.
2) The camera
Right so this one comes down to the low light photography, I've upgraded to the P20 Pro from the Samsung S7 Edge. The S7 Edge did low light photography pretty damn well, and in the release conference Huawei state that the device can reach an ISO of 102400 however when in the Pro mode I can only set the slider to be 3200, yet the automatic mode takes it up to 6400. I find it very odd that an automatic setting can go higher than a manual one.
On my S7 Edge I can take a photo in an unlit room and still have it turn out reasonably well, I am expecting the P20 Pro with it's alleged high ISO to provide a better image, yet when I try this with the same settings as the S7 Edge I get a black image. I'm willing to put this down to user incompetence as I'm not a photographer... so if anyone can explain this to me then I'd be greatly appreciative.
3) Game resolutions
I copied all apps from my old phone to the P20 Pro, but half of them don't work. When the apps first launch I get the option to keep them at their native resolution or to force a fullscreen mode, no matter which option I select the menus for the games are all skewed and off screen. It renders most of my games unplayable (pun not intended). Could this be a resolution problem with the phone?
4) The Camera (again)
When taking portrait shots, the background is blurry. This is actually a pretty nice feature but sometimes I want to get a picture of me WITH something decorative on a wall behind me. I can't find a setting to turn the blur off.
5) Phone Management (the in built app)
This one is pretty straight forward to explain, IT NEVER REACHES 100%. The highest it's ever been is 96%, right now my phone is fully charged, has no apps open, is not performing any background tasks and is at 90% efficiency. I don't understand what it takes to get to 100%.
I'm sure there will be fixes for things as apps update and patches are released but if anyone could provide any assistance on the issues mentioned above then that'd be awesome.
I'll answer the following
2) Same iso settings on mine, switch to pro and change the settings
3) Either clear the data/cache or uninstall and reinstall the games from play store, remember this is a different phone and the defined settings could be wrong
4) click on the icon in bottom left (highlighted orange) to turn it off/on
Where did you get the phone from, which sim you using, which firmware you on.
Regarding the portrait question, when in portrait mode there are 3 settings above the shoot option, press the one on the left to turn bokeh off.

I've just reinstalled the apps from the Playstore, unfortunately they have the same issue still.
Thanks for clearing up the bokeh problem!
I got my phone from O2, it's an O2 SIM and the firmware is CLT-L09 8.1.0.103

yours is single sim and different firmware to mine is dual sim and firmware CLT-L29 8.1.0.102(C782)
I did miss off on the iso info that the high iso is only selected automatically by the phone when it's needed, ideally it would be good if could set the iso manually as well to the full range
Regarding 3: I could imagine its a programming issue. Depending on what method the games use to obtain information about screen sizes they could bypass options like fullscreen mode or so. This could be a problem on the phone software side that the fullscreen or native option is not overriding all access methods or the games not using the android API correctly.
I hope thet they will get us ISO 102400 and shutter speed 60 seconds for Pro Mod in updates. If you look at P20 Pro lunch day you will see that they shoot photo with 58 seconds of shutter speed. Now P20 Pro can just shoot maximum 30 seconds of shutter speed.

Nobody said they don't like the phone? I actually quite like it. I've come to this forum because this is literally the only place where some people could have answers to some questions I have about it, whether they be a fault with the phone or my misunderstanding of the functions.
Your comment posed no benefit to any of the questions raised, you don't need to comment. It's really unnecessary.

Actually, the first person who's comment I deleted said multiple things about not liking the phone. The reason you can't see it is because, as I said in the post that you felt necessary to reply to, I have cleaned the thread of said messages.
Your reply to a moderator's post posed no benefit to the way that the forum is run and maintained, you don't need to comment. It's really unnecessary. Do it again and you'll find that you'll be reprimanded. Have a wonderful day. :victory:

What do I lose with flashing TP ROMS VS stock RealmeUI?

Like with MiUI generally apps like Game Turbo are lost and there's no alternative replacement available so later cannot set screen touch sensitivity or disable notifications in gaming, set performance mode etc.
So suppose I install LOS then are there any Game Space alternatives? Is the Los camera better than RUI?
My main reason for wishing to shift over to LOS is really weird and extremely intrusive RealmeUI behaviour which feels even more intrusive VS MIUI and AFAIK there's no 'debloated' versions of stock unlike Miui EU/MiuiRoom and dozen others.
I have just recently unlocked mine and noticed Game Space was missing like WTF Realme - why you gotta act so passive aggressive bruh!? :silly:
Then noticed today after deleting photos even from third party apps they'll come back as the default gallery maintains a log and cache by itself - thats the last straw for me! Cant have the fookin OS track my gallery too and try to babysit me "in case I want to recover in 30days".
