I find every picture I take with the diamond sub par and not even 3 megapixel standard. my resolution is def set to highest. even my missus's iphone produces sharper more defined pics. diamond pics are soft, cloudy and blotchy when zoomedl auto white balance is useless, always gets things wrong and I have to always fiddle around with manual settings. what are your experiences?
Original files are in zip.. When you hold the td perfectly still the photo's are ok.. when te conditions are worse, i.e. your walking/moving, in darker places, the quality runs back quickly.
I found the camera amazing (except for in the dark, while contra-light doesn't seem to matter that match). Good quality, high-res pictures if you allow it to focus correctly and hold still. Some good modes too.
Prety much the same. Only way to get a reasonable pic is to remove the back when I need as good a quality as possible, and when I do so they're passable. Find auto WB is ok outdoors, but rubbish indoors (badly washed out), and needs a bit of fiddling to get the best out of it.
Bit of a nause, but I'm not a prolific snapper, so it's not the end of the world for me.
camera is amazing on light.
but in the dark it is really ****.

This is exactly what has been said before, i completely agree and I did some tests on it to. Both my images showed that with the cover on, cloudy, misty pictures and with the cover off, good quality, reasonably sharp pictures.

I do also agree that indoors and in low light the quality isn't that great but outdoors especially in good light the pictures are pretty good. Would be great if there was some sort of software tweak or software upgrade that would improve the quality of the pictures produced.
But at the end of the day we all know it all goes down to the quality of the camera that the manufacturer has used in the device. Im reasonably happy with the 3.2 megapixel that was used but with things like the Samsung i900 Omnia coming out / recently out with a pretty good 5 mega pixel hopefully HTC will take note and upgrade the cameras in future devices.
Im happy with mine, taking the back cover off can be a pain, but it works for me! (For now, hehe!)
Compared to what I just came from (a terrible VGA cam in a Motorola V3), I think the camera is amazing. It's not up to proper camera levels, but if I was after a camera for more than the occasional picture, I'd buy a proper digital cam or one of these phone/camera hybrids.
It does require a steady hand though, and it very low light it's not good, but even in relatively poor light it still did better than I was expecting.
Its just 'OK' in the light and useless in dark.
okay. tried with the cover off and theres definately an improvement, although still not perfect. however, its going to be a major pain in the arse to take the back cover off everytime I want to take an improv picture.

push the lense cover out....worked for me
but then you have the problems or crap getting in the back of the phone
Pretty good during the day, but at night it turns to ****, my guess is that it tries to prolong the shutter speed instead of increase the gain / ISO sensitivity.
HTC need to learn 2 program.

what if we cover the hole with clear screen protector film?
it would warp the image, short of proper optics you cant just cover a hole an take a picture through it, what we need it some sort of shutter on the back panel, quite easy to manufacture if someone could be bothered

you have any idea what does it take in terms of sensor circuitry to increase ISO sensitivity?
you have any idea how expensive a good camera sensor is (not the crap you see in consumer cameras, which are also **** in the dark)?
guys, I think you're just being unrealistic about what a phone camera should do.
I cleaned up my cover lens and I pushed it more that I wanted and ups it is out so now Im glad with clean photos and once a time I clean up hole back under cover...

can popping out the lens cover really damage the phone?
well
you'll get dust inside, this shall be most notably when wearing it in pocket...
i managed it by putting a plastic seal around it:
i took one of those cable holders which came with the diamond (e.g. holding the headset together) cut it in the middle (so it was half as high as before) and placed it around the lense
now its closed again (teste with very fine sand) and i got much better photos....
(sry for the bad english ;D - I hope you can get what i mean)
Im wearing it in my pocket and its not that horible than I expected so its your choice...no damage btw glue is still there so its the matter of 2 sec to stick it up...
If you don't want to remove the lens cover, then clean the cover. Have a look at your cover and you should see why the picture comes out the way it does.
I.ve been watching this forum for more on this issue. The camera is crap. I upgraded to the htc rom because it said it made camera improvements. Bull***t. It’s still the same. I take loads of photos and almost all with the diamond have some sort of blurriness. If you have some sort of movement when the photo is taken then it blurs’. Examples below. Because of what another member posted about the same problem. I will be contacting htc support.

Hi,
Is anybody else experiencing a waterproofing fail in your Z1? I took it for a swim a few days ago and I just noticed that there's steam inside the camera lens. The vibration motor is also a bit odd. The steam in the camera lens sometimes goes away but then comes back. I tried going for the warranty but they said that it'll take at least 2-4 weeks to get it fixed.
Edit: it also launched the camera app from sleep. Maybe water got into the camera button for the first few hours but everything's fine now. Even the camera. Should i be concerned?
Take a dryer to it or put it in a bag of rice for a day with the flaps open.

thats how long it normally takes..
I have had the same issue with my phone, at first it was fully waterproof but then I sent it back because the ring around the power button fell off, after 15 days I got it back and they fixed all the problems I had BUT then I put it under water for 2 minuter, took it out and couple minutes later the phone started turning itself off and on the whole time. I opened the flaps and everything seemed to be alright, but then I took out the sim card and there was water on it!
The phone was still turning itself on and off so I used the red hard reset button and it shut off the phone for good.. I couldn't get it back to life..
I freaked out and put it on a bag of rice, 2 hours later the phone is still dead.
So then I grabbed a hairdryer, opened all the flaps and started blowing some hot air so it gets dry and it worked!
The next 2 days my camera got foggy like yours whenever I put it in my pocked, but after 2 days it disappeared and it has been working flawlessly ever since then, I dont wanna be without the phone for another 2-3 weeks so I'm not sending it back right now, the main thing is that I can still use it on the rain and while taking a shower, im just not submerging it anymore.
But yeah if you really want it to be fixed send it back, but if you can live without submerging it then I think you are gonna be just fine.

They clearly have official sony ads with people swimming and taking out pictures using the phone in a river/waterfall area. It is meant to stay under water for a half hour. so technically yes it is meant for swimming
Same here it went after a 4 days and on the left part of the screen it doesn't detect my finger i cannot take the icon on the left page and camera button not working headphone is not functioning properly only one side of the headphone workes. Very disappointed.

Found this from SONY's website:
Go Underwater
A sudden downpour, hard desert winds or falling into the kitchen sink – the waterproof and dust-resistant1 Xperia Z1 will handle it all. With its IP55/IP58 rating, you can even take photos and videos almost 5 feet (1.5 meters) underwater to capture free-floating hairstyles or spectacular belly flops from a low angle1.
*Need to remember it is good for up to only 30 minutes!

Yes, 30 minutes!
And in your manual it says clearly, only clear water, no sea water, no chlorine, no other liquids! Only plain clear water for up to 30 mins.
Find me a pool or sea with only clear water!?
Don't have a go at me about it, it's just as it's written in the manual and the warranty certificate!

It seems strange that SONY advertises the ability of taking pictures under water...probably in a "fresh water lake or pond"?

Yeah, it's just condensation. Warmer temp inside the phone+cooler water temp=fogginess in the camera lens. Nothing to worry about, it'll go away soon enough.
Then maybe i should sue them for false advertising?
Did you try going for the warranty? That seems like a major issue...
Better go for repair. My friends xperia z motherboard died this way. The water inside the device will never go out until someone opens it and clean it. He had the same problem(He buyed it 500€ and sold 70€), ridiciolous.

It doesn't matter, the major danger for the phone can be the Salt water (Ocean), if you go on the beach and make same pictures under water, then after that you should wash the phone under sink.
A condensation on Lens for a waterproof device mean Faulty to me, as the condensation come from water that mean there is a water inside, also that condensation do not do good at all to the health of your phone a long way.
You can make picture every where you want, just be careful.

Hi,
One month ago, during a hiking, rain entered the phone. Then my phone screen became dark and inresponsive. My phone went to repair shop and I got it back in the night. The probem was only the battery. Weird I thought it was the screen. Since then, the 13 mpx camera lost quality and take blurry pictures. What can I do? Send it back to repair shop?

First, I was not able to pull out the screen/hardware from the rear housing cover and I was too scared to break something in the hardware. Few hours later, I took a deep breath and managed to open my phone. Then I cleaned the lens and the camera. I reassembly the phone and first I was happy because the camera focus was able to take clear pictures. But I figured out when the phone was heating, fog was spreading on the lens, making cloudly camera screen. I reopened it but the camera went back as bad quality as before. I reopened it again and now it works, but not perfectly. :victory:

This week I decided wash my device with tap water and for my surprise I realized a few hours later that my cameras was with water inside... I never let it fell down and I was shocked with the "protection" and even more after reading that Huawei doesn't guarantee protection against water...
So if it really has IP68, what's the point?
Anyone had trouble with water?
Still don't understand why people purposely put their expensive smartphones under water. regardless of the IP68 spec
It's a very sensitive electronic device which may or may not be correctly sealed, keep the IP68 rating for when it rains or when you accidentally get it wet, don't put it under water on purpose...
And why did you only check Huawei's water policy 'after' you put it in water? Why not check these things first?
Plus, how dirty was your phone that you needed to put it under the tap? A damp cloth would have been better no?
I'm fully understanding the last message, and as you I'm not gonna put my phone willingly under water...To clean it... Or anything else!
BUT, in other hand, huawei worked (and marketed communication) to put an ip certification on it and we all paid for it too.... Not 'the only' feature but it's part of the price for that product.
Will anyone say 'ok it's fine' if your water-resistant watch is filled with water after you've washed your hands or done some dishes?
Could be a 10€ ones or 15k€...water-resistant or ip is still the same... Even more with a device like this phone which was launched around 1k€.
Will somebody say 'ok...' too if your brand new jacket which was sold as bullet proof is scratch by a paintball ? ...
Etc etc.
OK : don't look to damage your stuff willingly
Not OK : companies wash their hands so easily...
Hope your device get repaired !
Or put in rice bag for the night ... Old style always relieved

Did you bought it from an official seller??? Because there are a lot of cheap refurbished that they don't mention this of course.
I had a scare with my p30pro. Walked into a swimming pool with my phone in my swimming shorts. Phone fell out and stayed under water for approx 5mins in under 1m depth. Got the phone out and dried it with a towel. Had phone microphone issues for two days after that - people on a call could not hear me properly, but all issues cleared out after a couple of days, so I'm guessing there was some water stuck in mic holes that had to dry out. Since then, I had no issues so I'm guessing IP68 rating was true in my case

You know what salt water does to electronics right?
Even if the water doesn't cause a problem the salt will corrode the contacts for charger etc
Can I swim with my smartphone?
We certainly wouldn’t recommend swimming with your phone. When the IEC tests a smartphone it’s done under lab conditions, with the handset in standby mode – not in a swimming pool full of various chemicals used to cleanse the water.
The same applies to the ocean. Seawater is full of salt, a mineral device-makers stress isn’t tested when the unit is being put through its paces for an IP rating, so we’d also strongly suggest steering clear of that.
Let’s be clear here: the rating the International Electrotechnical Commission assigns is strictly for fresh water. That means it doesn’t guarantee protection from submersion in other liquids – beer, coffee, salt water and soda, to name but a few.

Doesn't matter really, purposely putting your phone under any water isn't the best idea, they do not come advertising that you can do that, there is no picture of the phone under the water taking photos to show you what you can do with it, it is literally just a rating to say it is water 'resistant' and even then, only at a certain depth for a certain length of time, under lab conditions, so in other words, Not waterproof at all as it will eventually leak in, that alone tells me some devices will be better sealed than others, which has already been shown by people complaining water got in the camera and display
Your phone your choice, just don't come making threads on XDA asking how to fix it when it all goes wrong
Yes it has IP68, I tried putting it on a pool and under a waterfall. Just don't let your speaker grill and charging port submerged in the water for a long period
Wait i thought the p30 pro was waterproof???
Phone is IP68 rated. It can survive underwater. IP68 is great if you are under a rain shower or if the phone falls accidentally in water. Well, I use it in the shower and i wash it under tap water. Never had any problem. Remember that, if the membrane of mic gets wet, the quality of your voice will be worse.

IP68 is splash proof only, not really a waterproof, even Samsung's S & Note series
This is silly.. It's supposed to be IP68. It got wet from low pressure tap water, I didn't mind because I know it's IP68. I was about to take a photo and noticed it's blurry, looked on the back and both the main and wide angle lenses are filled with water drops. So annoying.
The 5X lens is perfect for some reason, zero drops there.
I sent email to Giztop, I hope they can help.
Don't trust any phone to be watertight... many have learned the hard way.
Think of it more like being water resistant.
NEVER expose a phone to salt water. If -any- gets inside it's a sure death.
Damn.. I bought the 512/12 version just 5 months ago. What a sh*tshow..

If it hasn't worked it's way to the mobo you should be fine after the clean out.
Just keep it powered down until then.
Truth be told the seals are rather puny on all phones. It's nice when they work, just don't count on it.
Realize that being under water 3 feet is 1.3 psi of pressure. It will find any openings... hence the max 30 minute warning on most "waterproof" phones.
Two ziplock freezers bags will make it waterproof for a couple inches to a few feet in depth. Even then I would keep an eye on it.

I had an LG V30 in the past.. It was in the water so many times , I figured IP68 can be trusted. I guess not all phones are made alike.
Anyway, I turned it off and it's sitting in rice (no idea if it actually works, but better than nothing).
My biggest worry is actually water marks on the camera glass after it dries. The main reason for buying this phone is the camera.
I already sent Giztop an email about it, let's see what they will reply.
Mine fell in a sink once but it was ok . Xiaomi waterproofing seems kinda hit and miss tbh
Forget the rice, eat it.
Heat drives out moisture even in a high humidity environments ie a hot box. Used in tropics to perverse lens, surgical equipment, etc.
Don't over cook it though
A constant 110F will work but it may take a spell.
The water will likely leave a residue but it may not be an issue. Try to gently tap it to the side so it will vaporize elsewhere.
I'm using a sous vide box , inserted a hair dryer in the whole of the sous vide and set the HD on low. Whenever it's turned on the moist goes away, as soon as I stop it comes back. Trying now 30 minutes or so, I'll update.
Giztop seems to avoid taking care of it, but I learned IP68 is not to be trusted. $1200 lesson.
