replacing usb charging assembly - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

sadly my n960f-ds' charging port has gotten water damage and needs replacement. I went to update my recovery and rom today and my phone wasn't recognized by pc.. rip. i noticed on ifixit site they specifically sell a 'us/eu single sim charging assembly'. it made me wonder if there is a specifc charging assembly for the dual sim exynos note 9? this will be my first time doing a repair like this so i want to be sure i am doing it correctly and have the right parts. thank you for your time and help.

Locate the PN# on the pcb and use that to get the same replacement. The exynos one likely won't work!

[Q] Milestone repair/spare parts?

One day I was charging my Milestone via USB and I unplugged it. The USB pins came out with the charger. My carrier told me that it was user-induced damage and not covered by the warranty, as well as telling me that you can't replace the charging port, so I'd simply have to buy a new phone.
This was quite unacceptable to me, so I went around to cellphone repairing shops and none of them have been able to fix it. In fact, the most recent attempted fix has left the back panel ripped apart, too!
The phone was in perfect condition before.
So does anyone know where I can find this elusive charging port - is it so special to the milestone that I can't replace it with another phone's USB port? I also need international shipping. Yes, pigs fly.
I have a dead Motorola Droid.
It sure is the same charging port.
PM if you are interested, I can ship worldwide.

I see you're still trying to get your phone to work. I may take you up on the offer, but I'm going to try one last phone technician to see if he can fix it. If he can't, I'll find out if it's just because of the port or because of general incompetence. Then I might be able to take the phone off you. Thanks for the offer.
Hi I am looking for a motherboard for my milestone. I am from Germany. My Milestone has a water damage. The only thing that does not work is the touch.
I think if I were an undamaged motherboard in it have ,it work again.
Does your motherboard?
Dear Greetings from Germany Misch xD
won't you need a new touch panel as well? if ur mother board failed, how did u determine touch doesn't work?
Hi
Hmm I think that the motherboard is damage. Because it has water damage suffered.
but maybe I should first install a new touch. Although I think the honest, the motherboard is scrap.
Do you have to sell a Touch?
thx

I would have to say NO!
from your link...
"Samsung Galaxy Note i717 Micro USB Slot USB Microphone Mic Charger Charging Port Dock Connector Flex Cable Ribbon REV1.0 Replacement For Samsung Galaxy Note i717"
That is not even a sgh-t999 /sgs s3 device's board.
I have the same problem mine isnt charging. but from what I have seen the "port" is on the main board and is not an easy fix, unless your skilled in soldering. [heres where my nasa soldering skills come in handy]
Would also like some direction as to where/what to buy....
Thanks
Edit 0:
I found this looking around on amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Original-Genu...im_cps_91?ie=UTF8&refRID=1F90DC9HWRDBRN3QA19D
has the correct model # listed and from my "googleing" this is the only way to change the part...no easy board swap like other samsung models... :/
Edit 1:
Ok I bit the bullet and ordered this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A6960P4/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
wont be here till june sometime because its coming from hong kong... but I can wait..had the best price..Hope it dont bite me in the a$$...
Edit 2:
I stopped at one of those screen repair shops that have poped up at our local mall, just to ask if they do port repairs...He pulled out an S3 main board with the conector on it. From what I could tell I did get the correct part. It will be interesting to say the least to get it off and replaced. Will update after I get my part next month. At least knowing what I am up against is a relief.
from what i researched the att & t-moble version are identical, only that the Att&t version can get lte but i took my phone apart and the boards are the same, so ima give it a try.

[Q] HTC One charging port compatibility issue

Hello,
I live in India. I bought an HTC One from a seller on ebay, who has imported the phone from Hong Kong.
Few days ago, the phone's charging port stopped functioning properly. I took the phone to HTC Service Center to get the port repaired. But the repair person at the service center says that as the phone is from out of India, the charging port is not compatible with the one he has in stock.
He says he can put it in, but it may cause issues.
Can anyone please give me advice about this? What difference do connectors have and what issues can be caused due to this? The service centre guy says he cant say what issues may occur, anything may go wrong because of it...
Im sorry I know its a trivial question but I hoped that if anyone has any hardware knowledge about this, they could help me take a decision whether i should put in the "non-compatible" charging connector.
Thanks in advance

The charging connector is universal. Did you speak to the service rep or the technician?
Edit: are they doing it for free??

No, they are charging some amount, i guess some Rs. 500 or so
I spoke to the technician..
Try aftermarket repair there are also good technician can help you charging points are now same for all companies at least HTC won't use two different types

I'd say, don't go to an aftermarket technician. If HTC is taking only 500, get it done there. At least they'll disassemble and reassemble the phone the right way. Also, aftermarket parts aren't the same quality as the ones HTC will give you. I've bought an LCD assembly aftermarket, and there is a noticeable difference, between OEM and that (although it is 100% genuine, it just isn't as good)

I was considering taking it to an aftermarket repair centre but I had concerns about the way they handle the housing...unfortunately the HTC One is so difficult to open without damaging its outer body

So there wont be any issue about the non compatible charging port right? I will ask HTC guy to put it in then.

[Q] No charging or booting

Hi guys, I hope you can help me out here.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, I originally purchased it in Malaysia, broke it and took it to Malaysian Samsung and had it replaced on the warranty. Fast forward 8 months later I am back in the UK, my phone is completely unmodified, original everything.
I place it on charge whilst I am using it in bed, I notice that it stops charging after a while of me using it, I assumed I must've knocked the cable, so I readjust it and carry on as normal until I put it on the side and go to sleep.
After waking up in the morning it becomes apparent that it didn't charge at all and the battery died in the night, I check the usb is still plugged into the phone and the plug socket, all a-okay. Strange. I then asked for my housemates charger, no luck still wouldn't charge.
A few days later a replacement battery arrives, also wouldn't charge. Must be the USB then surely? Well, I replaced that also, tested both batteries with it and still no luck.
Any idea guys? I'd hate to see an 8 month old phone die for no reason.
Thanks
P.S. I have tried it from a wall socket and my PC USB.
Maybe the USB port is busted? Was it hotter than normal when you last used it? Have you submerged it in water before the incident happen?

I have tried replacing the USB and it hasn't fixed it at all, and at no point has this one been submerged. I learned not to do that with the one that had to be replaced on warranty :/
Also all of the moisture indicators on the inside haven't been triggered, so it's not water damage.

Just to be clear, you have replaced the usb port and not the usb cable, right? Have you tried letting a Samsung rep look at it? I know that the warranty can't be claimed but you could ask them to just check on it. Ask for an approximate price to fix it, canvass other repair stores and search for the parts needed so you can do it yourself if you want.

Yeah I replaced the flex ribbon inside the phone itself. I was trying to get it sent into Samsung, but my Cyber Service Centre account stopped accepting my password and wouldn't accept any reset passwords, and Samsung stopped responding to my emails :/
I also emailed a British Samsung repair shop and they told me that they wouldn't look at it because it wasn't bought within the EU.

That's unfortunate. I can't think of anything else aside from it being a motherboard issue. If it is, it will cost a lot. If you can, try going to other repair centers around your area; you might find one who can hopefully help you. Best of luck.

Thanks for trying to help anyways Nobie. I had the same thought that it must be the mobo, probably a surge fried it or something.

Can I swap a international motherboard n960f into a n960u frame?

I have a samsung galaxy note 9 on sprint currently, the phone was dropped and smashed but not too a unrepairable extent. I currently put a new battery, charger port, and wireless coil. The phone won't charge still unless I use my s20 ultra as a wireless charger which says its charging but I cannot get a light, vibration, or any screen activity so I'm guessing the motherboard is most likely toast. There is no water damage and I will be replacing the screen glass I was hoping I could get a image before I ordered one lol but the real question is the phone is on sprint I was wondering if I can purchase a N960F international model motherboard and use it in the N960u shell. I want exynos for the simplicity of rooting. Also The charger port I installed was off ifixit and labeled for the n960u, n960f, n960fd but read somewhere there's a difference in charging ports? Any information is greatly appreciated. This phone will most likely be used on AT&T
Does anybody have any insight on this issue?
I you dropped and made damage anything, i guess you might have the same issues, but otherwise if motherboard fits in place correctly it should work, the F variant is exynos ad should work with all networks, and sure you can root it.
No guarentee it will be a pin for pin swamp or that the subassembly components/firmware will be compatable.
I think it's unlikely to work.
You need someone that did it to know for sure otherwise it could be a big lick on you. Even if it's possible no guarantee the replacement mobo is good or won't be damaged during installation (think ESD). If you had all the major components you have little to lose otherwise you might be kicking a dead horse.
With that much damage buying a working one with the right configuration be a better bet...

I'm sure to be careful with my electronics, but you are right. Looking at tons of pictures the motherboards seem identical in size, all the parts I bought said they were compatible with both models ill be using all n960u parts other than the motherboard. I read somewhere the charger flex is different but I can't see or find any ones that are different, also same for the cameras. This will be a pretty sweet experiment I guess. If they screen works the cracks in the display aren't too bad that it wouldn't be usable. I'd save about 80$ (if I don't buy a bdot replacement) all in all spending about 200$ in replacement parts. Not too bad if you ask me. Considering it's my gfs old phone that she didn't end up paying off since it broke I don't think it'll be a bad deal
I'll be sure to update any progress I have the motherboard will be in around the 15th of march
I changed my mind, perhaps rubber conectors are different?

Screen, camera or USB connection cable might be different size or location.
Boards may look same but their functionality may differ as both boards have different CPUs. snapdragon variat have FM radio enabled so 3.5mm jack may have different port configuration same goes with cameras and so on..... Best is to buy a exynos variant F model.

On the Note 10+ there are 2 Snapdragon C port PCB variants that look identical but are completely incompatible and not interchangeable.
Any update on this swap?
