Hey guys,
I have a Samsung S10 with a fully bricked screen, but everything else works - even the below-screen fingerprint reader. The phone can be used via Samsung Dex for everything except for the so-called "protected" apps that only work on the phone.
Instead of forking out 300 dollars to have the screen replaced and end up with a subpar device anyway, I would like to use this thing for something. If I could get full control of the device via a laptop or a different device, I could for example use it as a web-connected camera or something.
Anyone got any tips for what I could do to achieve this? I have already enabled developer mode and USB debugging, but not sure where to go from here.
Hi, i also have a galaxy s10 with a broken screen, after enabling usb debugging you can use in windows a program called "scrcpy" to mirror you phone screen to the pc (you can also control you phone with the mouse and keyboard in windows).
With that you can do pretty much everything.

Good evening,
I am at my wits end.
I am using a Samsung S5 (AT&T)
This phone is STOCK
USB debugging is OFF
I do not have any RECOVERY on this phone
The screen is BROKEN and NON-FUNCTIONAL
I have a PIN ENABLED
I've been scouring the internet for about 8 hours with no solution.
I have tried an array of programs, unfortunately, most of them require USB debugging to be ON, which, to reiterate, mine is set to OFF, as in NO USB debugging, otherwise I would not be here asking for help.
I have searched the internet in search of a way to turn USB debugging ON via my PC, but the only feasible method (using Samsung Find My Mobile) was futile as I do NOT have an account with SAMSUNG.
I wish to retrieve very important pictures and documents from my phone,
again,
to reiterate,
NON FUNCTIONING SCREEN, USB DEBUG IS OFF, PHONE IS STOCK, NO RECOVERY, NO SAMSUNG ACCOUNT AND IS PIN PROTECTED.
Is there any other way I can retrieve my files?
The only other method that may work is using a mini HDMI (will be purchasing soon) so I can display my phone onto another screen, and hopefully unlock the pin with a keyboard.
Please, if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
Thank you very very much in advance.

Oh jeez... looks like you've really got yourself in a pickle here.
Unfortunately there isn't another way to retrieve your photos without a functioning screen (you can buy a new LCD assembly for about $150 on iFixit but you'd have to install it). The HDMI tactic should work, but otherwise you're pretty screwed D:
Let this be a lesson to others to ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR STUFF. That or use an external SD when you can :3
Sorry I couldn't be of much more help than that.

I appreciate your response, and I hope you can help me get out of this salty pickle
I may have to go the route of replacing the lcd assembly if finances allow (broke as a joke, right now)
So, I finally tracked down an MHL cable, and this is where I am stuck. I am able to output the screen onto my tv, however, I cannot interact with it when I plug a USB mouse or keyboard into the TV (the TV does not state incompatibility, however it said 'device unsupported' when I plugged in a ps3 controller [for poops and giggles, and with a little hope it would work] so that tells me the keyboard and mouse should work.
This is such a tease seeing my phones display, without being able to do anything. Oh my gosh.
I feel like I'm doing something wrong, and possibly a very obvious error I'm overlooking.
Thank you.
Regards,
C
So my Galaxy Note 9 ended up in the middle of a busy intersection for a while, needless to say the screen is completely destroyed. The phone is still operational in regards to it powers on and can receive calls and such. What I need to do is backup my device or transfer data to my new device. I tried connecting it up to a monitor via HDMI however there's a pop-up screen that it says I need to touch to activate Dex on the phone which I obviously cannot do. Anyone have any other ideas on how to backup all my settings from one phone to the other with a completely non-functional screen on the donor device?
You're probably just better off restoring the new phone from your cloud backup, assuming you set that up.
You could try getting DEX to work on your TV/monitor then backup through that using a bluetooth/wireless keyboard and mouse...
Shouldn't matter if you cant use touchscreen as it is mirrored on the TV...
If you connect to the DEX and still don't see anything then it's not just you screen that's dead...
Or if you have a usbc to multiport adaptor you can connect to the screen through HDMI and control DeX using a wired mouse through the USBA port.
Alternatively, download Samsung Smartswitch on PC and try connecting through that.

This is exactly what I was trying to do but I had not used DEX previously and there is an initial screen that you MUST touch the phone screen to get past. I was able to see the phone screen on the monitor however I could not see the Prompt that was only on the phone screen. Anyway I have moved forward with using google to restore most of my apps, thanks for the suggestions.
Hey guys, as the title says - I am having difficulty with transferring files across from my Samsung S21 Ultra to my PC.
I have tried:
- Developer mode, enable USB Debug
- ^ + set default debug to be FTP
- keypad *#0808# and select MTP+ADB
- In the notification bar, clicked the 'charging' notification (that sends me to battery, not to pick another option)
I do not have the original samsung cable as it was of poor quality and failed after 2 months however I am using Anker cables, I use them for file transfers on other devices such as cameras, VR headsets and other phones - they work perfectly fine on everything except my S21 Ultra. I have also tried different PCs/Laptops in case its a driver issue.
Phone specs:
Model number - SM-G998B/DS
Running the latest version of Android.
If anyone can help me, that would be great. I really don't want to factory reset as that means losing the things I want to keep anyway which is just a lose lose.
If you can't find a solution quickly right now, then just use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.primftpd&hl=en_US&gl=US
FE Explorer can also do something similar.
Or, Samsung Flow or something else.
Also, are you mostly trying this on Windows or something else?
Ensure usb-drivers for Samsung phones are installed on your pc. E.g. by installing smartswitch on you pc.

No need to install anything.
If it's Windows, just go to Windows Update at some point after you connect the phone.
Click "Check for Updates" and/or go into "Optional Updates" and you'll find that the driver is waiting to be installed ON YOUR COMMAND.

Surely I wouldn't need an additional app to transfer files? I'm doing this on the latest build of Windows 10 21H2 and also on a Windows 11 laptop, my P20 Pro transfers just fine but the S21 Ultra doesn't read anything as something other than a charger.

Do you have super display installed? I had an issue where I had super display installed and could not connect my phone for file transfer until I turned the super display service off in my services on Windows.
I am having the same issue and as I can recall it was after the recent update strange may be.
Open driver manager from within control panel, right click on portable devices and update MTP driver for Samsung phone. Press allow on your phone and you should be good to go.
I'm using Solid Explorer over WiFI, no issues
If you're using a corporate windows you need to install the media feature pack. Otherwise just try a different cable, some don't work. I had the same issue when using my old huawei cable, used the one that came with s21u and was fine.
Try disabling DeX in the phone settings. It worked for me..
Just a quick question guys, does the S21 Ultra come with a USB 3 data speed cable or is that something I'd have to buy on amazon etc. Thanks.
A few days ago I bought a used S10 with Android 11 (Build: RP1A.200720.012.G973FXXU9EUA4, Stock ROM).
The previous owner rooted the S10 via Magisk because he had problems with Android Auto and his car stereo.
Root didn't solve the problem and he removed root again.
He couldn't close the bootloader afterwards, so the bootloader is still open. He said he didn't have installed/flashed TWRP or any custom rom..
Since then, the USB interface no longer works properly.
No data connection to the PC can be established, only charging works.
All devices that are connected to the S10 via an OTG cable are recognized, but only for charging. Other options in the S10 USB settings cannot be activated.
But, the connection to a screen via a USB-C to HDMI adapter (DELL DA200) works without any problems. The S10 recognizes the monitor directly as an external display and the monitor also shows the screen content of the S10.
I think it's a software problem, right?
I tested different USB-C cables, several OTG cables with different PCs and notebooks. No PC/notebook recognizes the S10 and no other USB device is recognized by the S10..
Is there a way to re-flash the S10 with Stock ROM and close the bootloader?
Maybe via ADB over Wifi?
Or is there another way to restore the data functionality?
I absolutely need the data functionality because I want to fly my Dji drone with the S10.
Greetings and thanks in advance
My problem is now "solved".
Yesterday I went into donload mode via WLAN ADB and locked the bootloader again.
The result was that the S10 only booted into download mode.
**** happens.....
Fortunately, I was able to buy a completely destroyed S10 (display and back cover) nearby for little money and convert the mainboard into my S10.
Thanks to everyone for the many input and the many tips.
Just a few days after taking the case off my phone because it was interfering with wireless charging, I dropped it. Was in excellent condition after several years of use. So, how can I access the phone either via rebooting it with the sd or wired? With the screen cracked, I cannot turn on USB debugging through the system>about> method.
Yes, well... good luck.
Maybe you can try it with Samsung Dex or if just the touch is broken you can connect a mouse with an USB-C Adapter.
Buy a usb-c to hdmi with at least one usb, then you can use dex mode or while in dex clicking on the right bottom you can switch from dex mode to "phone-mirror" mode and use your phone.

If they can navigate to that setup with a dead display... it's going be a tall order if it doesn't automatically connect.

Here with mine galaxy s10 it automatic connects to the hdmi out, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Seems that few people has the issue of wanting something with a broken screen phone, here i'm trying to install a rom that has Aroma graphic interface to install, and i get it how hard can it be.
