Help!! Phone won't charge.

I tried to soft reset my tytn II in the dark, and accidently put the stylus into the usb/charging slot and somehow screwed up my phone. It will not charge, or connect with my computer. Any suggestions?
OMG! I did the same thing, but luckily i didn't do further damage except the copper parts become bent
HTC should have done something about this! i am sure many other users did the same
can u take it back to your supplier for warranty claim?
same problem here...
i could bend back the copper contacts with a WOODEN (!!) toothpick (dont steer around with metal in there....)
Looks like i tried to reset the device in darkness last night and fumbled around in the usb jack.
Damn... really bad position for the reset-button!
Same issue here-- though some chargers now work, some don't. My phone will charge with my OEM charger and usb to computer, but not my 3rd party wall charger or my car charger. Aaargh
Same Problem Here
Check out this thread at AT&T Forum regarding my attempt to get a replacement phone.
http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=cingular&thread.id=65536
I got mine replaced at the store. I was under 30 days and was lucky.
I am going to order one of these:
http://www.eforcity.com/silicone-mini-5-pin-plug-for-motorola-v3-2-pc-smoke-cmotv3xxpc01.html
it should fit. i also heard that certain verizon phones have rubber usb plugs on them. I may just stop in a verizon store and see if one fits. My tmobile wing had one on it and it worked great to protect the usb port.
Well...I did the samething last night. Tried to soft reset my phone while driving in the dark. Luckily I've had my tilt less than 30 days, called and now all I have to do is go to the AT&T store for a replacement....Also, I'm going to pay 10% restocking fee so I can get an extra battery and charger...W00T!!!!! I actually saved about 50 bux
One way to avoid doing this in the dark is to flip the phone upside down, locate ExtUSB socket with your left index finger, keep your finger over the socket and slide your stylus down your finger tip. Of course the easiest way is to turn a light on.

true, but for those of us with this problem already, it is too late
Luckily, I tried a newer charger, and my car charger, and they both work. As far as connecting to my computer, I have to use my Y cable that was included with my old 8525. I'm still pissed, and I have a TyTn II and not a tilt, so warranty will be a pain in the ass, considering I have to send it to the UK. If it starts to act up, I will have to send it in, and if I get it fixed, I will definitely buy one of those plugs from the above post. Thanks for all the replies, and good luck to everyone with this problem.
Lesson # one don't put things in holes in the dark in bed
Well, good news is ATT is sending me out a replacement phone for free since I am still under warranty (outside the 30 days, but inside the 1-year). Now I just need to re-flash back to OEM status so I don't get busted on the return...time to test out the "Idiot's Guide to Re-Flashing Back to Original ROM" and see if it does me right.

that's why I have so many kids!?! anyways I had my phone charging in my car and it fell of my seat onto the floor. the nezt day I noticed it wasn't charging (tytn 2 no easy warranty fix) I then noticed that inside the usb thing is a black plastic piece with the small metal connections. the black piece was bent a little on one side so I removed the battery took a pair of tweazers and bent it it straight again than I took some forced air in a can (for a computer keyboard) and blew in there to make sure none of that cheap plastic shredded and got in the way of the metal connections. it looked like after I used the tweazers some of that black plastic chipped off (very small pieces) anyways after that it worked perfectly. hopefully this will help others
well it seems i messed up now and stuck my stencil in there one of the small Metal wires is out of whack now ad some chargers work and some dont did anyone get a plug yet?
pissed
so I live in metro detroit with a tytn 2 not a tilt. after I stuck my stencil in there it seems my car charger don't work. when charging with my audio adapter its flaky losing some power, maintaining, gaining some power. but when I use my wall charger with no adapter it charges!! if you put the kaiser flat on the table I see by 2nd wire (in the hole) is bent down(whereas the others are up) and its sitting in the middle of the whole.(my buddy told me to use a needle and a magnify glass because the 2nd wire was actually bent all the way down but I got it in the middle after messing with it. when that one wire was out of whack my car charger gave me a red constant light (no charge) after the stencil incident. I hope all that helps somebody! anyways so I call HTC first they tell me that's not covered under warranty. Then they tell me I have to send it to houston tx for 3 weeks. Then they tell me it will cost $300 usd to repair!!!! this is insane for a little miniusb piece that got hit once with a stencil. it probaly cost 22cents. what is everyone else doing? I think if I can get that metal piece to stick to the top it'll be fine. I just switched to att and I have 6 days until im locked to a 1yr contract I could buy a tilt for 250 or whatever but id have to sign a 2yr contract.
I stuck the stylus in the USB port as well but luckily I didnt seem to do any damage. I did bend it a bit but with some gentle pressure in the opposite direction it went back into place. I havent had any problems charging or syncing since then, so it seems I got lucky. Just gotta hope I dont do it again, lol.
ya the black piece as a whole seems to be able to bend a little but if u mess the little little metal connections in there you're gonna have problems
Hi, this is my first post and I hope to help someone. I had the same problem with my phone, it charged with the home charger and in the cradle but the car charger won't work. using a close light and a magnifier I could notice that with the phone with the screen upside looking at the usb connector that the pin al the way to the right was flat and a tip was showing as opposite to the others. I returned it to the former position and voila!! it works. I hope to help someone.

Brodit Mount

Looks like Brodit will be releasing a mount soon:
One mount with two power options listed as "new product - coming soon"
I've sent an email just a week ago and this is the answer:
"Dear sir!
Thank you for the mail.
We are sorry but for the moment is this nothing we have in our plans.
Best Regards"
And now (a week later):
"New product, Coming soon"
Defy fits the mount to htc desire. Just in worst case
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Brodit Active holder available
http://www.brodit.com/?main=searchb...-BC4A-AB094BCB0609&showTypeHidden=0&showID=69
But what about the automatic car dock switch (magnet) ?
I've got the passive mount (the active one seems to be out of this world expensive, even for a brodit). The phone slides from the right (or from above if you use it with the usb connector facing the floor); this "landscape" position seems to be the best in fact.
Really good fit as usual, power button a little hard to reach if you have fat finger but everything works nicely. Probably the "active" holder is a good choice as well, especially if the prices drop as it becomes available at more shops. I was under the impression that you might need to plug the connector manually (after you insert the phone) so there's no point in having the active holder (you would just get a charger which most of us have). But I'm wrong most likely, as the phone slides from the right I imagine it would just fit in the connector that waits for it from the left side. Probably you can even fit a connector there with the right combination of plastic and glue (or screws) and mod a passive holder to be an active one.
There's no magnet as far as I can tell but I don't have the software that takes care of it anymore anyway. That's for the best as it was quite a big pain, it would turn on the phone just because I put the headphones in the same shirt pocket, etc.

With regards to active holder, the phone does slide into holder and connector, thus you don't have to fit power connector manually..
Thanks, got it - works rather nice, assuming you didn't forget to move the port cap out of the way
Inductive charging would be "'da bomb" here...
Anyway, second question: anybody has access to a Defy+ to test if it fits the active Brodit holder for the Defy?

Why wouldn't it? The Defy+ chassis is identical to the Defy.
I doubt I'll be buying a Brodit mount any time soon though, just tooooo expensive.
Looks cool, but I like the Motorola original better.
for those who found a brodit or other permanent mount too expensive... i m currently using a sports armband bgt from ebay $3-$5... strapped it round the handle bar like u wld strapped round your arm whenever u need it... n u r good to ride already!! wif music n gps navi... i m enjoying my long rides even more now!! :-D

[Q] The Droid 3's coax cable

What kind of function does the Droid 3's internal coax cable have? Does it work as a wi-fi-antenna, GPS-antenna or both?
I'm going to replace a few parts in my phone, but it looks like I can't do it without breaking the coax cable...just wondering if I can manage a few days without it till I get a new one..
Not sure which cable you are referring, but you should be able to take the whole thing apart without breaking any cables. If it is the one that attaches to the backplate of the phone, you have to lift up on the connector on the phone.
Pictures and more details of what you are trying to do may be helpfull to answering your question
It's the one attached to the backplate. And the backplate is one of parts I'm going to change, but the new backplate replacement does note come with a coax cable. The cable on the old backplate is impossible to remove without breaking it as it's glued to the backplate. Disconnecting the connector is not a problem.
I understand now, I looked at a spare backplate I have and the cable is soldered to the phone in several spots, that would indeed be very hard to remove, but possible with a good iron. I hate how a lot of the replacement parts out there come without important pieces, this is usually a good headache.
If you have the part in hand, it is a simple swap, try it out and see what antennas don't work by trying to connect to gps, wifi etc. If you don't have the part in hand, I would look elsewhere to obtain one.

[Q] Magnetic Flash Drive

Hi all,
I think someone has already mentioned this idea in any post.
It's about connecting a flash drive via otg cable and pin it at the backside of the tablet.
Since a flash drive should not make any problems combined with a magnet there's only one thing left.
You need a thin metal plate or another magnet in the back of the tablet (which isn'T really a problem neither).
My only question is whether I can throw away my tablet after adding a magnet at the backside or pinning another one on there? Is there anything that can be damaged in my N10?
Or can you think of another comfortable way to use a flash drive with the tablet? A cheaper one than buying a wireless HDD?
Thanks for your answers and suggestions
I'd probably use double-sided tape to keep the flash drive in place instead of a magnet.

That would of course work, too. But touching it all the time will just go on your nerves. On top of that you'll have the dirtiest tablet, because a rest of the glue will stay there...

I believe they are shielding for the speakers, as seen in the teardown here:
http://www.powerbookmedic.com/wordpress/2012/11/16/google-nexus-10-take-apart-first-look
Now, do we have anyone brave enough (not me) to attempt to add a microsd card slot behind that back cover
I think its no good idea to pin a magnet on the speakers...
Will there be any problems with the battery if you insert a samll metal plate next to it to pin the flash drive at?
Is there any problem with the magnetic field? This Li-Ions shoudln't feel anything, so why not?
i'm sure a magnetic field on the battery is fine... just as the Palm touchstone connected via magnetic coil on battery cover as with any other wireless charging device
Yes, and thinking of all the smart covers/cases etc. you'll see they just generate a magneticfield everywhere on the tablet and there is no problem ... of course it isn't that strong but thinking of a flash dirve's mass i won't need such a strong magnet...
Thanks for your answers, I'll just try it out when my tablet finally arrives

wireless charging mod (s4 ACTIVE)

Heres the backround on what i did to get wireless charging going...
1) get palm coil and touchstone. i bought this on ebay for 10$ (just search touchstone charging kit)
2) carefully remove the coil from the back cover of the palm phone. plastic cover first then the rest.
3) what worked easiest for me was to keep all the coil stuff stuck to the removable plastic piece holding everything together, then you can simply stick it in the back of our active covers. (make sure when moving the magnets all the positive sides are facing towards the dock)
4) Connecting it. I tried doing this a couple different ways and i eventually ended up pulling tiny copper wire out of computer speaker cable and used it like a twist tie on the phone terminals (then small amount of electrical tape to separate them...which worked out fine)*I attempted to do the same on the coil side of the connection but that was a bust so i ended up soldering it.. not my first choice but since its on the palm coil not my active I did it.*
5) you should be all good to go at this point
here are some pics too and of course if you some of mess your phone up...its not my fault

Use a multimeter...if you dont know how, you probably shouldn't attempt this hack and should wait for an aftermarket back plate to come out
Out of curiosity, how strong are these magnets? Am I going to have to make sure that my phone gets nowhere near my credit cards (and other magnetic cards, media, etc.)?

They are fairly strong but I have yet to have any issues with my cards...however I usually keep my phone in a separate pocket
Have you tested the phones waterproof capabilities since you did this mod? I love the idea, want to do it, but im on the fence, as it seems it would make it very easy to make the waterproofing gasket fail with a small wire.... on the other hand, you dont have to take the back off, or open the charging port, so if it doesn't void the waterproofing, it could be even better
Obviously, if any wire or any part of the wireless receiver protrudes over the seal, the water resistance will be compromised, but that's not the only issue.
In the back panel replacement sticker on the back of the S4A, it tells you to press under the camera LED. Pressing there engages the rubber seal. The issue is that any of these non-oem wireless receivers is going to slightly lift the central portion of the back away from the phone. Thus, even if no part of the seal-line is breached, I still wouldn't trust that the seal could engage fully.
Don't get me wrong... I'm going to do something similar, since I'd rather have wireless charging. Still... until an OEM wireless charging backplate comes from Samsung, I'd assume it's an either/or situation. Wireless charging OR water resistance.

I will fix the wire issue by using copper tape. I'm excited to try it...
I am doing this mod tonight and I thought I would share some information.
See below for the information I have gathered:
Yellow lines = Copper tape- as you can tell it gets very cramped around the end because of the gasket. I may need to use a different path or wires like the OP. The important stuff to gather from this is which is positive and which is negative on both the phone and the palm pre touchstone.
Nice idea, curious to see how this works out.
Update
My copper tape has not arrived but I installed everything else. It does appear that the coil makes the rear housing push out which leads me to believe it will not do well to repel water away from the seal during extended use but I would prefer wireless charging
If you plan on using a case I would recommend ordering stronger magnets from supermagnets.com part number Disc - D1046. These should work well with any case and it will fit more snug because they are a lot stronger. I will update with photos once the copper tape is installed and everything is working.

The battery door is different. In theory it will work but you would have to figure out a way to gut the back plate and that would be a lot harder than palm's touchstone mod. Or just wait for the active's wireless back plate to be released. This is a lot cheaper IMO $10 vs $30-150
Ya I just realized this. But still do you think the wireless charger receiver tag could work? If you search on Amazon or Ebay "Galaxy S4 wireless charging receiver tag" there's the component which is stuck inside the back cover Samsung is selling. Except it can be bought for $10-20 and most likely can fit in the Active. I don't know because I have the original S4 but just trying to throw out some ideas. In theory if the tag works you can get it for $15 then use any Qi charger and you're good. While not quite as cheap it's only a few bucks more and much easier and looks way better probably. That is if it works of course.

I paid a little more because I wanted to get it this week. The cheaper ones come from China and may take a while. I now need a replacement back for my active, somehow with the palm mod one of my clips doesnt work any longer so under my volume rocker it is propped up. Excited to have wireless charging. Hopefully this week
