I have had a htc g1 t mobile in 100% working condition for a long period of time. a month ago i rooted the phone ( and i was successful), downgraded the phone to rc29 and tried to put the hero firm ware into my phone. in the process of trying to put the new firm ware i came across some difficulties and now, as what they say "bricked" my phone. immediately as this happened i was able to reach such screens as holding the end key and the camera key landing upon a white page with some options. not having much knowledge i played around with it and now my phone is completely unresponsive. all it will do is start up and stay on the g1 spalsh home screen and only when i take out the battery will it shut of. holding down any certain keys together does not seem to help. i have also given my phone to such companies as SN traders who were unsuccessful in repairing it as they said " they could not identify the problem". perhaps they never really tried. but the point is, i want my phone to work again. do you have any suggestions as to what i may do to bring my phone back to life or perhaps suggest a place to go to that will repair it for a fee. Please help . thanks in advance

When Upgrading to the newest hero rom did you
1. Upgrage to the newest radio? http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/
2. Upgrade to the newest SPL? ( You can find it in the first URL)
3. Partition Your SD card to a Fat32/ext3/Linux-Swap?
yes i recal doing all of those things i believe in the process of upgrading to the newest spl or newest radio i went wrong. i think i tried to put a file on b4 having the prerequiste for it. not sure which one. but in the middle of these process is where the problem arose.

Did you upgrade the Radio before the SPL?
hmmmmm, seems you screwed yourself. knowledge is power and not enough knowledge is a huge downfall. maybe next time you will take the time to read and understand

i dont remeber my memory is kind of vague this happend over a month ago. i have resulted to this forum due to a lack of help from such companies as SN trader who had my phone for a month and could not fix it. say i did upgrade the radio b4 the spl? in fact, as i type it, it seems more likely that is what i did.

...
all i remeber is i had the rom on my sd card and when i tried to flash it it showed an error or somthing. this might not be accurate to what actullay happend but my memory is shot.
again with the victim theme? the guy who go's out, buys a new r-1 with no motorcycle endorsement or training then piles it into a tree isn't a victim. he's an idiot. now, what you did is not nearly that, but if you can't get into any recovery screens, you own a brick.
sorry, but rooting your phone isn't like changing the wall paper. bad things can happen.
Seriously buddy, there are warning signs posted on almost all the threads on this forums when dealing with flashing stuff. All the risks are laid out and people will tell you to do your research before doing anything. I was scared ****less the first time i installed the "death/danger" spl even though i knew exactly what i was doing.
You bricked your phone.
There's not much else to say, on the developer section of this forum, there's a thread , something about "thinktank for bricked g1's" go there and you might find some solutions
arbab01, I sent you a PM.

I bought an ATT tilt quite a while ago. It is out of warranty now, and wouldn't you know it, something went wrong.
I'm currently using Dutty's Diamond ROM (with the keyboard fix installed), but the same happened before with the official ROM. While I text some keys don't work. I'll be typing away, just to look at the screen and see that I am missing a bunch of letters, rendering the message unreadable. I then have to go back and fill in all the blanks, and even then sometimes it takes several tries to get it to go. The same happens with the backspace key; sometimes it just doesn't work, other times it does (oddly enough, when it doesn't work normally, it usually lets me hit "function" and use it as the delete key).
My other concern is that there is a ton of lag while typing. It takes a while for letters to show up. Is that normal (for the Tilt, at least. I'm still wishing I had bought a BlackBerry)?
Yeah, I had similar troubles. I just upgraded my SPL and hopefully will be testing it further testing.
what SPL are you running?
I'm not entirely sure, it was a while ago that I flashed the ROM. How do I find out what it is? I tried Device Information, but it wasn't there.
you have to put it in Bootloader mode.
hold power and camera button while resetting with the stylus, then you'll come to the tricolor screen which will give you the SPL info.

I am having the same exact problem, 1 out of 5 times it works corectly so im thinking it has to be somekind of software, my problem started when I started using ROMeOS's rom's and I have tried different SPL's virsions.
I've heard that the keyboard/membrane may be the problem. Is that likely? If so, is there anywhere to buy them?

cnn.cn has them for cheap AFAIK!
Thanks!
But they only have the outer keypad (the one right below the screen). Well, I hope this can be fixed with software, because the only place I saw that listed them showed them at $39.99 and they were out of stock.

I got the same SPL he has, I did a hard reset afterwards then downgraded back to 1.0 because I saw no improvement.
I thought RomeOS worked best with 3.29.

Success! If the SPL doesn't work and I can't convince AT&T to do it, I'll order one and put it in. How do you install it?
EDIT: I just installed skyfire, and noticed that while I was putting in my email and password it was smooth and nothing was skipped. I'm almost 100% certain this is a problem with WinMo itself
I have been having the same problem as you are describing, but I have noticed that it is with heavy use keys like T, H, E, R, S and for some reason V.
I was getting the feeling that it was a hardware problem rather than a software problem because, especially with the V, I have to apply a bit of pressure to get the button to work.
Unfortunately for me I bought mine off Ebay so the warranty is already void.
Incidentally mine started happening when I had the original network providers (T-Mobile) rom on it. I have since installed an original HTC rom and it hasnt made the slightest bit of difference.
So, how easy is it to open up the back of the Tytn II and replace the keyboard unit then?
Oh my god! Thank you for posting this. I swear I have always felt like posting this but always got too lazy. I thought it was only me that had this problem. It is so annoying typing away, and then having to spend another minute to retype the letters that didn't get inputed the first time. It is so frustrating and I thought it was my fault or something, or ROM, I believe its hardware related, but I am not going to spend another dime on this POS. I'm just not so patiently awaiting t-mobile to release their android device, and I will jump ship and never look back! Thanks for the post again, it has given me piece of mind.....ironically
I'm kind of wanting T-Mobile's Android phone, but seeing as how it's made by HTC, I'll wait for the first couple of user-reviews to come out. I bought the Tilt based on website reviews, but man, I was really misled. They said the camera was great, I can only get blurry unrecognizable images. They made no mention of the fact that when you switch to landscape it takes 3 seconds for all the graphics to appear.
I'm disappointed, and I think my next phone will be a plain vanilla flip phone.
Anywho, I'm updating the SPL now, I'll post if it makes any change.
Okay, I now have HardSPL 3.56 and there does not appear to be much of a change. There was some short lag at the beginning of the text string, but afterwards it caught up. I missed no letters this time. I cannot say how much of this was the placebo effect (i.e. it just felt faster), but perhaps if everyone with the issue tries we can have a reasonable answer.
ETA: I added a poll, so if you try this, fill in the poll!
disable word suggestion under Input setting.
i don't miss any characters with it disabled.
It was already disabled for me. I know I didn't change it, I think the ROM came that way.
I've searched and could not find an answer. So I'll just start a new thread.
No matter what radio I use, no matter what ROM I flash, I cannot get my screen to respond to taps.
It was responding to manual buttons but no touch. I flashed to a new ROM hoping that would fix it, but now I can't even past the calibration screen...
This all just happened suddenly too. I have been using an iphone for the past couple of months so I have not been too concerned. However I wanted to use my kaisar as a modem at an offsite sales event but it's still the same....
Probly been asked a few times, but I took the plunge away....
Flame or answer away....
Just flash ur shipped ROM & see if it can back to normal again. If not, just return for warranty or repair.
have you updated your HardSPL?
if you have spl1.0 with the wm6.1 installed, these problems are common.

That may work. But I'd rather not downgrade to 6.0 if that is not the problem. Plus I have no valid warranty. ATT Tilt is from the United States and I live in Canada...

I have tried 2-3 Hard SPL's.
I suspect that it has something to do with the Hyperdragon 3 Diamond ROM. All my problems started when I flashed that paticular ROM.
I will try downgrading to 6.0 and see if that does the trick. I somehow doubt it though. I think that this may need another, trickier remedy, ie: unbricking a bricked PPC.
I was sort hoping that this was a more common problem and advice would be more readily available...
So I downgraded to the original ROM, but still the same problem. Perhaps if I also downgrade the SPL. Does anyone have this file?
Btw, though I am not a developer or anything I have been flashing ROM's for awhile.
This problem just came out of nowhere...

Ya, I forgot about that thread. I haven't used that since I upgraded my spl to Hard3.28. I can understand why I would get problems with the RESTORED STOCK ROM that I flashed my device wouldn't work with the latest Hard SPL, but why would this occur with a ROM it was supposed to work with.
This wasn't something that happened after I flashed, it just happened out of nowhere... They key to fixing this understanding WHY. it may or may not be the SPL...

No. I figured the problem had something to do with the SW, so I just flashed figuring that would fix it, but now it's basically useless (not like I'm using it right now anyway, but)...

I had a similar problem on my trinity. It was an hardware problem, a spoiled thin strip that is between the LCD and front cover. As someone told me that
send it to warranty would take a long time to get it back I replaced myself the strip and now is working...
It's probably a hardware issue. You will have to replace your LCD+Touchscreen and if that doesn't work, you'll have to replace the flex that connects the LCD with the motherboard itself.
I fixed a TILT with that problem. I ended up buyina a new LCD when the problem was caused by the flex
PS, LCD screen is way cheaper than the flex.
Hey. So it looks like I did buy a replacement warranty. So I took it to my guy and he said that he would just replace it. He asked if I wanted the same one or if I wanted to pay the difference and get a new one....
I paid an extra $250 and got a diamond...

I had a similar problem with a Wizard and it turned out to be a bit of dirt that was stuck under the screen on one corner, resulting in constant contact that prevented the device from registering my taps. I removed the screen and cleaned it thoroughly to fix.
Also try "rubbing" the screen in each direction with both thumbs to see if you can slide the screen around and dislodge any dirt from the edges. The screen will move around slightly under the case without damaging the device.
I live in Australia, and have a Telstra branded Diamond, although it is unlocked ( i use Optus Sim card) anyways i was hoping to install unbranded cooked rom found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=422417
I didn't know I needed to install HardSPL, i tried but it failed so i continued on (i know I'm retarded) so i tried using the Diamond Unlocker.
I hit Next, Next, Next until it got to progress bar it stayed on 0% then jumped to 100% and said that my device wasn't compatible or something like that, at that point the image on the diamond faded to black screen. I This happened when i tried Hardspl but i just hit reset and it turned back on alright.....this time it didn't, it doesn't react to the power button at all, iv tried hitting the reset button, booting into boot loader even though I'm pretty sure it doesn't have one, and tried MTTY which I'm pretty sure it pointless because my diamond doesn't turn on.
Please share any knowledge or ideas you have on how i can fix my Diamond, or where i can send it to be repaired (I have no warranty with Telstra by the way)
Is my diamond bricked for life?
EDIT: In the hope that my Diamond will return to life by holding the power button, i have noticed i can still feel the vibration it usually makes when turning it on although NO DISPLAY

ANY Replies or ideas are appreciated, please HELP
I would contact them without a receipt you may have to pay for the repair
but I don't see why they should not make money of you repairing your broken device
Thanks for the reply, my question is, i bought this phone off a friend and knowing him he got it from someone else who probably has stolen it, so if i take it in for repairs and it is stolen I'm screwed....right?.....are they able to I.D a stolen device?
Thats what you get when you buy a stolen device. You'll pay it back one way another.
I guess but for $250 who wouldnt take it. I guess i should have read ALOT more instead of rushing a flash. So last question, does anyone know if its physically possible to fix the phone, if it be replacing a bit or get a technician to hardwire or something......is it possible? or am i stuck with a nice new paperweight?

I think its a case of what goes around, comes around.
Hey
I have a similar problem. But mine is bought and original and I have a receipt. Anyways, there's no way around the sending, is there? Because, I think, it'll take a lot of time and regarding the fact, that the mistake is on my side, the warranty is void, isn't it?
Hi there. Long-time lurker, first-time poster here. There’s something amiss with the alignment of my HTC Diamond (Orange UK – upgrade from August). It’s as if the screen is repeatedly being pressed on the bottom right hand corner (so it’s pretty much permanently cycling through PROGRAMS, REMOVE, DONE etc.). There are a number of threads floating around this forum regarding screen alignment going nuts, but they all seem to be happening when the device gets hot – with mine it happens constantly, regardless of temperature. And, it’s not just when I touch the screen, it’s all the time.
What I’ve done to try and fix the issue:
-Re-aligned screen (via ‘Settings’) – this usually takes several attempts
-Soft reset
-Hard reset
-Removed screen protector
-Tapped the four corners of the screen firmly (www.htcwiki.com)
-Opened ‘note’, pressed firmly, drawn line with stylus (as advised on www.htcwiki.com)
-Flashed back to stock ROM
None of this has made the slightest difference, so now I’m trying to get the phone returned to stock settings, so hopefully my warranty won’t be invalidated. Steps I’ve taken so far:
-Cleared internal storage (via SETTINGS).
-Hard reset
-Flashed latest (1.93) ROM from the Orange UK website (www.orange.co.uk)
-Identified SPL bootloader (VOL DOWN + POWER + SOFT RESET)
(Tricolour screen):
DIAM100 MFG 64M
SPL-1.24.Hard
MicroP-Diam (LED) v11
PSOC-Diam STAGE_PVT v0x30
-Downloaded Stock SPL from here (after reading this thread: Heeeeeellllpppp UK ORANGE SPL RESTORE. Am I correct in thinking that despite having the latest 1.93 from Orange, I still install the 1.37 SPL? ). Haven’t yet installed, but will shortly do so having fully read and understood the advice in previously linked post, and info on modmydiamond.info
*EDIT* I had problems restoring the original SPL as the screen has now gone completely ballistic and is constantly registering this phantom pressing of the bottom corner of the screen. I managed to solve the problem by pressing down on the screen (which seemed to 'freeze' it), and then, using the hard keys, navigating to PROGRAMS>FILE EXPLORER and then (still using navigational hard keys) running SSPL-Manual.exe from the Diamond (then following instructions from above thread). Checked bootloader, now says SPL 1.37. Phew.
Now, what I’d like to know is:
Have I missed something? I’ve searched long and hard on this and other forums, and can only conclude that this screen issue is a hardware fault. My first port of call is hopefully going to be returning the phone to Orange, and hoping that they fix it under warranty. Has anyone got experience of returning a Diamond to Orange after having flashed it (and returned it to ‘stock’ ROM & SPL)? All previous posters who’ve discussed possible Orange warranty invalidation after flashing ROMs haven’t updated their thread with the results. Or maybe I’m searching for the wrong terms in the forums ...
If the worst comes to the worst (and having experienced Orange customer services for the past 10 years, I’m fully prepared for this ...), can anyone recommend any reliable HTC qualified technicians about who could possibly diagnose and repair my Diamond?
Apologies for the lengthy post. I’ve tried my best to search the forums for a solution, and I’m acutely aware of unnecessary newbie posts, but I’m kinda at the end of my tether here.
Yours hopefully ....
Orange are not all that likely to go poking around in the insides of the diamond to check every version is stock. I'd ring 154 and tell them the problem, don't mention that it has been flashed or tampered with at all. They will run you through a diagnostic session and probably sort out a replacement for the next day.
If you have an Orange official ROM and Spl you'll be fine, Orange get thousands of returns daily, they are not going to check each and every one for the correct software versions, as long as it has the right numbers somewhere it'll be fine, and I think you have done more than enough to cover that.
If you have any problems PM me.
Thanks for your reply. I called Orange earlier, played a little dumb, and they did just as you said. Although the only diagnostic they recommended was to perform a soft reset (no hard reset, no clearing storage - just soft reset).
I got the feeling they've had quite a few returns, as they didn't ask any questions about whether the handset had been damaged/exposed to extreme temperatures/any other potential damage-causing scenarios. They're sending out a replacement handset shell (handset only, minus battery & SIM) tomorrow morning to swap with my faulty one. I've had issues with Orange customer service in the past, so I am pleasantly staggeringly surprised by this unusually competent level of help from them.
Hopefully I'm not counting my chickens on this one, and the new handset works and no questions are asked about any flashing of the old one ...
Thanks again,
Most phone companies just do a straight swap on the door, so im guessing thats what they are giving you?
If thats the case, then i highly doubt they are going to bother chasing you up on it even if they ever notice. They must have loads of these things coming in everyday, they will probably just ship it back to htc, who might notice, but by then i doubt they will know where its come from.
Though just giving you a new shell seems a bit stingy!
New shell arrived at 9am this morning (I may have to temporarily rethink my opinions of Orange CS ...). The only part exchanged was the phone part - I even kept my old batter cover. I suppose it is slightly stingy, but also more convenient. The replacement is clearly a reconditioned model, which is fine with me. The reason I think it's reconditioned is that the screws inside the phone show signs of having been unscrewed, and there are minute marks around the screen which would indicate it's been removed, and probably replaced. The screen also feels different somehow - as if there are two membranes connecting when applying pressure with the stylus. Not an unpleasant sensation at all though.
So far, it's working well. Super fast (running Orange's latest ROM & Radio: 1.93.405.1WWE & 1.00.25.05) with an immediate response, so I may resist tampering with software for at least a day or two! Apart from installing MSVC - Cyberon Voice Dialler is a total waste of time in my eyes.
Fingers crossed, this handset will last the distance, and there'll be no flashing repercussions from Orange.
Cheers!
orange wont check the internal structure of th device
they once tried to tell me the omnia was unable to be debranded from there firmware it took me 10 minutes to do
I sent my orange diamond back after the backlight stayed permanently on.
I was worried about them checking, but i still left the hard spl on and the rom - they didnt bother checking
would anyone tell me if i send the faulty orange phone to orange service without proof of purchase. Would they check phone or repair it without proof of purchase?
Appreciated for your replies

I've never had to provide Orange with proof of purchase when returning a phone to them but every time I did I had Orange Insurance on it which was bought when I bought the phone so they would have the details on the system.
I doubt Orange check these devices when returned. I sent a phone back for a scratch on the screen, they asked me if it affected normal operation to which I replied "Yes". They said "Are you sure because if we exchange and find the device still works you will be charged for it". I said "Yes", arranged the return and promptly tried to damage the screen further to stop it working. I gouged a crater into the screen without it failing and just had to let it go and hope nothing happened. I've never heard back from them and it's been at least 1 year.
i had this issue as well. i have tried everything then i have found that somone mentoned about AZTOR V7 rom. i had it once i remember. since my diamond came back from repair with comment: unauthorised software/unlock voids warranty i have decided to have last try.
AZTOR V7 rom solved the issue for me!!!!!!!!!!

I had read the wiki on how to upgrade ROMs and what not, and never asked myself the question: What actually happens when you flash the wrong ROM (WM5/6, for example) to a CDMA Harrier? Does it not work at all?
Thanks!
Harriers cant be upgraded, they will brick if you attempt to.
Yes, but what happens. Curiosity is killing me. Do they just not turn on, or get stuck at bootloader, fuchsia screen of death (I made that one up, but it sounds good)? Ooh, do little gremlins climb out of the screen?
