Hello
Yesterday I installed in my HTC Shift Photofast a G-Monster 1.8 "ZIF V2 128GB. SSD has been detected. During the installation Win7, actually almost the end, there was a error message: disk were not available etc. Rebooted. In the Bios was detected something. Just stood HDD1, no information, no producers, etc. Off. Cable tested for SSD. Still some time out and clean again. In the BIOS again without HDD1 info. Old HDD installed. The same HDD1: no info. Line from the Shift and expanded in an external HDD enclosure installed and tested on a different computer. HDD is detected. SSD is not recognized. Then again installed in the Lapi. Now the field is left blank. Do not stand HDD1 times. Whether by SSD or HDD. USB stick and USB CD Rom drive detected in bios and also work.
I have tried to withdraw BIOS battery overnight. without success
Now is the Shift out or even something you can test / check?
Greeting
Paul
P.S.: sorry for my bad english

Make sure the circular ribbon cable did not tear. This may be your problem. This is the only thing I can think of. I had all sorts of problems when I installed my SSD. But after going in a few times and actuallysecuring the ribbon cable properly to my drive, I was able to get it recognized and able to install Windows, although, mine is the Kingspec 128GB SSD.
I hope this helps, just make sure that the cable is inserted properly, all the way in, and it is secured.
Thanks!
PS
Did you see there is 2GB of RAM available to the SHIFT? It is offered by Mem-Store on Ebay. Please check the Shift's RAM thread for more details. I have bought and installed the module myself. I left them excellent feedback, my username being guyyyy!
Take care!
Hello
I tested it again. Connector is faulty. The defective point can not find. With a standard 40 pin ZIF connector it works. I ask for Connector at HTC. But I do not have much hope.
Photofast SSD I sold on Ebay. Can you recommend a good (possible cheap) SSD? 64GB is enough.
Paul
P.S.: 2GB of RAM I have already seen. I will definitely buy

The only experience I have are with the Kingspec. I had a friend install a Kingspec in his as well. I am not sure if they offer in a lower capacity though. Check ebay. Just type HTC SHIFT and sort by price, highest to lowest.
Go all the way to the lower priced items. This way you can either find the cable you need, OR a cheaper SSD. I hope you find what you are looking for.
This is the best advice I can give, as this is older hardware.
Take care and all the best.

That sounds right, because reading this forum the Heigth of the SSD needs to be no more than 5mm. This is where you need to be the most aware. Many standard drives that come in the 1.8 form factor have heigths of 8-9mm and those will cause you to have problems closing the shift (If I read correctly throughout this forum) So you need to make sure the heigth so these you listed look good.
I am not familiar with Runcore brand, but I wasn't with King Spec either, and it is working Exceptionally.
Take care and I hope this helps.

I like to exchange the harddisk with SDD 60Gb 1.8-inch the MK4008GAH and the MK6008GAHLIF for electronic (CE) devices, (Low Insertion Force)
8x54x71mm. Reduced footprint vs. current 1.8 inch HDD
IF I UNDERSTAND IT WELL both has a zif connector
Anybody who can confirm this will work and fit???
Check the height of the drive, if it is 5mm it will fit just fine, if it is 8mm you'll struggle. you'll need to remove most if not all of the protective material around the drive bay, and even then you may have problems with the sim card, as the drive will press hard on the slot.
The MK6008GAH you mention has the correct connection (lif) but is an 8mm drive.
I've just bought an 80Gb drive, not arrived yet but it's on its way. EDIT - Now fitted and working fine, dual booting Vista and XP.
Its an MK8025GAL, which is 5mm high.
Thanks Pantaloonie
I will check that and thanks for your quick response
I can take your HD alternative if the SDD will not match the 5 mm

And any suggestions with SSD?
Im also interested in this. Have anyone tried an SSD yet? Thanks!
Hello together!
I have an Ameo 8GB WM 6 which I want to use in my car - so far so good.
In addition, it is to play my MP3 collection.
But I have more Mp3 than 8 GB Mp3 - how can I extend the capacity?
Which external USB-HDD runs at the Ameo?
I have already tested a lot of HDD 2,5’’ - 1,8’’ - 3,5’’ but nothing works
I get only one USB-sticks to run!
Which capacity of USB-Sticks will work? 128GB?
Can I Use an external HDD with WLAN like the old ASUS WL-HD to map to the Ameo?
Can anybody help me?
I have searched a lot in various forums – some one has already running an external HDD via 4 in one cable.
Thanks!

There are two reasons why external HDDs don't work initially with the Athena:
1. Windows Mobile only has support for FAT volumes. Since most extHDDs now sold are formated as NTFS, they can't be read.
Solution: reformat (if you can) the HDD as FAT16/32. You might need to get a 3rd party program to do this as Windows XP won't format a drive in FAT if it's larger than 32GB (IIRC). USB flash drives are almost always formated in FAT16/32, which is why your Athena has no problem with them.
2. The HDD requires more power than the Athena can give. A standard USB port provides 500mA, but Windows Mobile devices that have USB Host/USB2Go only provide 100mA. That's good enough for nearly all keyboards, mice, and USB flash drives, but insufficient for HDDs (which can take as much as 700mA before spinning up).
Solution: You have to run the drive on external power if you want the Athena to read it.
I've done both the above and once got a 80GB drive mounted as an experiment. One odd thing about the Athena though - it'll only mount one drive from a USB hub.

I don't see why not, if you can figure out how to get a network drive mounted. It's supposedly straight forward (I've done that before with WM2003SE), but WM5/6 appear to be a bit more 'sensitive'.
the power Ok - I'll test it with an FAT32 formatted Disk!
And extarnal power!
Can I Use an USB-Y-Cabel for the power and plug the power USB to an running PC?
And it works fine
Trekstor USB 120GB works fine with HTC 7500 WM6
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
this will help "others",
because I tried a lot of different hardware for my athena HTC 7500
(dgimate ,like optical10 did suggest;it works but drains battery and wasn´t very foolproof)
but none did really satisfy my desires,
Today I bought a TrekStor USB 1 1/8 inch usb drive 120 GB and it works since a few hours very well,
I am using a HTC cable 4in 1 with mouse and a stowaway external bluetooth keyboard and everthing is working witout problems.
With SK-Tools I made a benchmark-test with Trakstor HD:
Reading : 15554 kb/s
Writing : 171 kb/s could be a bit faster
Hardware :
Athena Ameo T-Mobile
8 GB micro SD Sandisk
8 GB in build microdrive
external USB Digimate 160 GB Toshiba HD (battery draining)
Trekstor 120 GB 1 1/8 inch very small (like a credit-card)
a batterypack 6x1,3 V with an usb car adapter for the right voltage wth 10000 mah x1,3x 6 ist nearly 75000 mw or 7,5 Watt
Bluetooth Ear-Phone (usefull in car for speaking commands)
Simore silver Dual-Sim telefone-adapter wich works very fine (GSM only )
Stowaway bluetooth keyboard
USB cable mouse
Favorite software:
mortscipt,PocketDos(all my old clipper programs are working fine ) JKWörterbuch
Total commander
TomTom, IGO2008 and Navigon
(I tried them running all three in parallel and they work without problem)
System :
WM 6 professional CE OS 5.2.1620
Why I am writing this:
In many forums I found very divergent opinions about using the above hardware. Some human beings seam to like misleading "others".
P.S.
("I am searching an USB-Trackball WM-6 and 4in1 cable compatible), perhaps s.o. can give me a link where I can order such helpfull technic")
"Even until totay everything works fine because I copied this answer"
Ok
I tried 3 HDD all three formatted as fat32 and plugged to 4in1 cable.
The VGA software was turned off.
no one did work at all! I always used a power cable plugged into another running PC!
Do you think it might be the rom-version of T-mobile - should I take HTC?

Hello Speedy2101,
I didn´t make any special settings on the Ameo,
I am using WM6 profesional
CEOS 5.2.1620 (Build 18125.0.4.2)
2007 Microsoft
Its original German WM6 from T-mobile
I upgraded from WM5
The first things you proof:
Does the 4in1 cable work correctly with an USB-Stick?
If it does , did you proof the microdrive with an other PC
With the HDD from Trekstor I didn´t even format it or did something like that
Otherwise I do not understand why it is working for me and not working with your application.

Get the Mobo Manual and check if there is a CMOS Reset (Jumper Reset) on there, that might fix it.
Other than that, check all the connections, if that doesn't work, unplug all un necessary peripherals.

how many beeps? Now I am not sure, but probably one on start (as normal) and nothing else
hmm, one beep is fine..maybe it could be your Vid card and then ur CPU
hook up ur lappy to an externa; monor and see if it works, else the fan stopped working and burned the cpu
maybe the vid cable is old and broken esp if its a old plastic ribbon or vid cable could have come loose
cable (graphic card - display) seems to be good, because I disconnected it from video card and later I tried to boot - without succeed...
so it could be graphic, cpu, and mobo... graphic card is installed on motherboard so if it or mobo is broken I must change this part. How can I check CPU?
that only why i can think of testing the cpu is putting it in another working motherboard with the same socket
But is 386? 486?
How many sockets suports 3-86, 4-86, 5-86, processors?
IBM i think with 21MB on Ram the processor must be 486...
but tell us how can you plug in to test your 21Ram Dimm or SIMM or rimm grimm frimm trimm PCB tablet on other mother? the minimal i saw this days are near 128Mb i cant figured out how your IBM motherboard supports that.... maybe searching for a 64 can run cause...
Im still with the Memory Issue....
I will be happy if it is RAM...
I have also older thinkpad with 128MB RAM (64x2 100MHz). This is with 192 (128+64 133MHz). I removed all 192MB and plugged 64 from older one - it is this same problem... but I will tried again in free time - weekend.... I will check this 192 MB RAM on this older laptop...
What sockets are you talking about? And what is this 21MB? Sorry, I don't understand
The processor made by Intel, it is Pentium III Mobile 800Mhz 256kb L2...

This adapter can be used as an alternative for the USB-Host functionality but I was afraid the microSD part wouldn't be long enough to fit the HD2 MicroSD slot.
So I managed to get its microSD part length according to expansys' product image:
The length is only 17mm but the minimum length to get it work with HD2 must be 20.5mm. I used a calliper to measure that.
So, I was hopping anyone would come up with an idea to use this adapter with HTC HD2.
Please notice that the adapter price is £29 excluding the shipping cost so I prefer not take the risk to disassemble it for extending the microSD length if it isn't possible.
Thanks in advance,
that's a very interesting product..
What is it for, are you trying to use a USB stick instead of your micro SD card?
If so, why?
a portable HDD caddy LOL
shame though, the MicroSD port wont put out 5v 500mah
although its probably enough to power a CF/MSproDUO/XD type of reader for example to clear some space on your digital camera card without deleting images (or simply to view them on a bigger screen )

Sometimes you really need work on a USB stick but you don't have access to PC.
Or as quasi_mojo said you can connect a card reader to your device...
Will I be able to play some mp3's directly from a pendrive with this device? Because I have about 25GB of music and I can't afford a 32GB microSD card.
i THINK (i could be wrong...) a pendrive would require more nearer 5volts to work...
opened up my SDcard reader a few days ago, plugged into usb with a 2gb sdcard...it was pulling 3.4-3.6volts while accessing the card, which is damn close to the MicroSD maximum voltage...
Anyone knows where to buy?
There is a shop in the USA, but who knows a shop in europe?
Greetings Ottschke from germany
PS Why not attache a harddrive to my Tab
Nook Color option
It would be cool if someone could make a Micro SD socket adaptor (with a usb converter cable) that would allow the ability to connect to and drive a scanner and a printer. One would need the appropriate app designed for it too. A nice option for the Nook Color.

to clarify transfer is what to be expected but the loading of thumbnails and data amount or size. once youve loaded all of them its fast.
but it takes a few minutes sometimes.
phones generally have good SSDS so does my computer processors on the phone is good, I cant find the bottleneck, does every device do this???
Windows need to read all your photo, every time you connect the phone. And if you have many photos... it could take some minutes ...
For example my Lenovo Legion y540 with i7 gen9 12mb cache, 16gb ram dual chanel, SSD Samsung 980 Pro 256gb for Windows & Samsung 870 Evo 2 Tb for storage. In my case it takes a few minutes. 2, 3 -5 minuntes. Yes is annoying !

If you use the stock Oneplus red cable between the phone and the desktop, it most likely is a 2.0 spec C-type cable (most likely, at least the one that came with my 9 Pro is). Go buy a 3.1 C-type cable (nowadays USB 3.2 Gen 2) or 3.2 C-type cable (nowadays USB 3.2 Gen 2x2)

That's annoying, I thought the point of a thumbnail was a low res picture for quick access. You'd think in 2022 we'd have a better way.

Ok so at 2.0 speeds 480 Mbps, suppose all pictures are 15 mb big and they're 1500 of them I'd take 48 seconds to see them all (high res no less)
(But they're not because you click on them and it takes an additional 7 ish seconds to load the image when opened. )
By this logic using a 3.0 cable (4800mbps) ( if ssd supports the speed) should only take about 5 seconds for all images
And it does not because I've used a c to c pixel cable to connect.
So they're must be a software bottleneck preventing a few things
The thumbnail should be small and in turn it should really take no longer than a couple seconds to load low res images ( unless these thumbnails don't exist on the phone and they have to be generated once the phone is plugged in)
It could also be a Windows issue (anyone have a mac that could try accessing their data through the file browser) just like the search feature in Windows takes ages and it's often so bad it can usually be faster finding the file manually it could be a matter of a broken or outdated protocol to read files off a device.
All I'm saying with all of these advertised speeds 5 minutes for 1000 5mb (yes not 15) and a couple big videos is too damn long. I'll be trying to see if there are any softwares out there that let you read of your device in a similar way itunes ( does itunes still exist??) does with apple devices

Maybe the 10 Pro has slower USB type C then, my 9 Pro is way faster with a 3.1 cable.
are using a usb 3 port on your computer?
i don't have any issues with transfer speeds.
I forgot to mention, my laptop have only usb 3.1 ports & 1 type C for charging.. & Windows 11 Pro x64.
Type C ports are produced in different versions, from 2.0 from 3.2.
Thumbnail are not the problem. I set my View with Details & select the newer first. Same amount of time. Still the green bar charge all hundreds of photos. Like i have a hdd from 20 years...
