I followed instructions on a link via the cyanogenmod website, to try and get cm7 on my phone. The instructions were on a wiki website which I now know is not reliable!
I got to the stage "flashing cyanagonmod" to find out that the zip files had to be in the internal sd card BEFORE starting the whole process!
I can still access download mode and recovery. But my phone gets stuck on the "Samsung galaxy i9000" intro screen.
I tried restoring and factory reset but still no joy...
any help is very appreciated!
Download some odin flashable ROM, and flash that in download mode.
where do I find an odin ROM and how do I know which one to use?
corrected: samfirmware.com
If you want a custom rom, then look through here however your going to have to read which is odin flashable...
This is a guide and rom i have used myself. Click here
BTW this is obviously assuming you are on SGS I9000 the second link should be quite clear...
here's a nice link to finding stock firmwares and using Odin:

Thanks for your post. Only problem is ODin doesn't recognise when my phone is plugged in? i.e. there isn't that yellow box showing...help!
Ok so im guessing your trying the 3 button combo for download mode (vol up + home + power). Alternatives to force download is a homemade jig, which is easily obtainable from ebay for a relatively cheap price. Other ways you can try is holding the combo for as long as you can, some have reported it may even work after 3 mins. Another method is hold the combo and then whilst holding it insert the battery. Also the last method but have the usb plugged into with odin open, then put the battery in. Many many ways... just search
Is that what you mean or that you CAN get to download mode and Odin and the computer does NOT recognise when you plug it in. If this is try re-installing the drivers using kies, its under the tools menu. Try a different version of odin, plug phone in then try the combo (with battery already in, then without). Have you closed all Kies applications background processes? (use task manager in windows). Use another computer..
Also have you read this
Edit: Forgot to add, can you get into Recovery? Then use your nandroid backup which you should always do before flashing.. If you dont have a back up try use ADB to force download mode "adb reboot download"
Need to know what options you have available in-order to help, what can you do? Is there any response from your phone with pressing buttons or key combinations??

That diagram you had is the same thing as the download mode. So treat it as such and flash your rom and kernel normally and it should work. I had the same problem before. To be sure, tried the following thread. Go to the 3rd post in this thread and follow the installation instruction. It will work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382055
I get that every now and then too. I reinstall the drivers (included with Kies), and reboot the computer. After that it will work.

Does ODIN still recognize your Tab? If you are upgrading from froyo to gingerbread, you may need to load new PIT file as well as new dbdata.rfs.
If ODIN still recognize your Tab, try to download your choice of firmware again with PIT file included. I'll attach a working PIT for you.
Note: Please extract the attached file to get the .PIT file and put it on PIT field on ODIN along with your choice of firmware you are flashing.
Once you are done and reboot, mostlikely you'll be in a boot-loop stuck at SAMSUNG screen. Now reboot to download mode again, then flash the DBDATA.rfs.tar I attached on the following post in PDA field on ODIN:

wakak make sure you got the proper Samsung driver installed!
I've got stock SG2, DVKF4, from Telstra and I rooted it using ODIN and XWKDD_insecure.
Last night, when I was updating the firmware on the phone, after reboot - all I got is SG2 boot screen with yellow triangle - after that blank screen/power off.
1) Did I brick the phone?
2) I 've been reading the forums and I can probably flash the original fireware, on there?
But I am not sure whethere I should do the kernel as well as it was rooted.
I've already got files from intratech but - not sure which steps to do - kernel and firmware or just firmware only.

First: If you can get into a download mode then you have NOT bricked the phone. You can call it a soft brick max. In my opinion get an odin flashable stock firmware and flash that by putting your phone into download mode. you can find a complete guide how to do that on samfirmware.com
hope this helps

As described above, yellow triangle normally suggests Download Mode so no you have not bricked your phone yet. If you had you would see a different and rather obvious screen where you would know you have bricked your phone. As long as you can initiate Download Mode and you have the tools on your machine, Odin, Heimdall etc than you should be able to recover from this situation quite easily. It's always best to read as much as possible when choosing a Rom / Kernel pairing if you are moving away from stock. Even though we may have the same devices it does not mean we will all have the same experience when flashing new Roms...
I would suggest Firmware first, then Kernel.
Hope you resolve your issue.
black screen on sg2
Hi I had a problem with my sg2. I was trying to remove the yellow triangle after putting ICS on it. All of a sudden it went to yellow triangle screen and then went blank. However I did not noticed the the phone came on still but no Galaxy boot up screen. If you have this sort of problem, the phone can still go into download mode.
1. Take the battery out and put it back in
2. Hold the Home(middle) button, volume down and power on button for about 10 sec. Just as you would to put in download mode
3. Open Odin and leave it open
4 While Odin is open press the volume up (Odin will indicate that it is in Download mode since the phone cannot).
5. Download the files from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=788778&d=1321782075
6. Extract the files and click the PDA button in Odin and select the file called 1
7. The phone will start but only stays at yellow triangle and turn off.
8. Now u can easily put the phone in DL mode and Recovery mode and re-flash with an ICS version you your choice. Either using Odin or putting it on your SD.
This worked for me...Using the original Kernel did nothing at all. Enjoy...I still need to get rid of my triagle after reflashing but I think I need an original ICS kernel or something. I will experiment with my phone more...Hope this help.
i'm not an english expert, but i'll try to explain you what happened, and i hope you can help me.
i have a samsung galaxy tab gt - p1000, with an old version of android, 2.3.3, because it's one of the devices wich haven't got the update. but i have bought it about 5 months ago, so i didn't want to waste it. so i decided to put in it the new android version ice cream sandwich, 4.0. and i followed theese instructions:
Requirements and Reminders
To be able to flash the MIUI 4 Alpha ROM on your Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000, you need to satisfy the following requirements:
Root your Samsung Galaxy Tab 7″ and install ClockworkMod Recovery on it.
Fully charge your tablet’s battery.
Back up all important files and data on your device ( i.e. bookmarks, contacts, SMS, APNs, etc.).
Download the MIUI 4 Alpha ROM for the Galaxy Tab from here and save the file to your computer.
The procedure has been tested to work on the Galaxy Tab GT-P1000. It may or may not work on other models.
Use the instructions at your own risk. We shall not be held responsible for any damage to your phone if you follow these instructions.
Installation
Here’s how to install MIUI 4 ICS on your Galaxy Tab 7″:
Connect your tablet to your PC.
Copy the MIUI 4 ROM to your device’s internal storage.
Disconnect your tablet from the PC.
Turn off your tablet.
Reboot the Galaxy Tab into ClockworkMod Recovery by holding down the Volume Up key and the Power button simultaneously.
Once the device has booted into ClockworkMod Recovery, create a backup of your currently working ROM. You can do this from thestyle=”font-style: italic;”>Backup and Restore > Backupmenu. This backup will come in handy in case you want to revert to the original ROM of your device.
From the recovery menu, select “Wipe data/ factory reset” and confirm that you want to perform the action.
Select “Wipe Cache partition” and confirm that you want to perform the action.
Select “Advanced”, then “Wipe Dalvik cache” and confirm that you want to perform the action.
With your phone data completely wiped, you may now install the MIUI 4 ROM. From the recovery menu, select “Install zip from SD card”.
Select “Choose zip from SD card” and choose the ROM file that you have copied to your tablet earlier.
Confirm the installation by choosing “Yes”. The ROM will be flashed after confirmation.
Reboot your device.
Congratulations! You now have Ice Cream Sandwich (via MIUI 4 Alpha) on your Galaxy Tab P1000.
but at point 8 or 9, (i don't remember, but i think it isn't too much important) i had to stop, because i stucked. so i reboot the device, and i've formatted it. the device worked like always, and so i decided to download rom manager from the market. when i launched the application i saw that i could flash the system that i had put in the device directly from there. so i touched that option and i followed the first instructions. i flash the system as the rom mangaer app told me. but when the device reboot for installing, and doing it's thing (i'm not a computer and technology expert to D: ) it stopped at the first screen, ( the one that says "galaxy tab, samsung"), and it didn't go ahead. so i reboot in recovery mode switching off the device and rebooting it pulling the volume up button + the power button, but it doesn't worked. so i tried to reboot it pulling volum down button + power button and appeared a yellow triangle with the android man and the written: downloading do not turn off target
but it stucked there like the first screen. i waited that the device discharged, and i charged it another time, but when i charge it, it appear on the screen the battery icon, but it is blocked. and now i can't open it, and it doesn't work or answer at all.
i know that it's possible that i made mistakes following the instructions, or the instructions doesn't worked.... but now, how can i reboot or format my device.
i only need to reuse, the information or the documents in it are not important.
if you can, help me, thanks
Read my post here. Should be same way.

You can stop right after flashing gb-stock-safe-v5
But you would probably want to go all the way and try overcome from.

If you are getting the download screen then flash it with stock firmware. You can download from samfirmware.com for gt P1000, Android 2.3.6 is available. Just use Odin and flash. You can get a working tab.

Hey guy, I can't give you all links now...but I will help you! I think I can
Excuse my spelling too, I am Russian and English is not my native language.
Watch the team overcome.net website for restock bundle and overcome kernel.
There are some modems, from,Odin in the bundle. I am not very good in English, please read some instructions on flashing roms by Odin, I can't fully explain...
You just connect your tab to Odin via download mode and flash restock. And then you flash kernel. OK, you have a clean 2.3 rom, but I really want you to go to CyanogenMod download center and download the latest nightly build. (OK, I don't know how to access it I just go to Devices page, choose any phone, select NIGHTLY BUILDS link and search for p1 in the list and download the nightly and flash it.
Something you can find or can't.
After flashing kernel for restock go to recovery and do wipe user data/factory reset and wipe cache. The system will startup then. Without this you'll get an infinite boot.
The overcome kernel will convert your file system. Please wait for it when your tab is charged and is booting. A robogirl will talk to you then
After flashing CM wipe it too!
Download GApps on goo.im to have Market and other Google apps! (Flashing via recovery)
I think that is all. If you have problems, send me a message, I'll try to help! Good luck!
you have to return to stable xxjq1 gingerbread. you have a soft brick. follow the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133590
then flash chainfire's cwm
after that, follow this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1523174
Please thank me if you found it useful
ok, but i can't download the right firmware from sammobile.com
can someone explain me how to download the right firmware from the site, and how to choose the correct one? thanks
Go to www.samfirmware.com and select the firmware you want to download.

You have indeed sofbricked your tab.
Google for "Overcome guide for galaxy tab 7" (can't post any links yet)
There you can find a direct link for the file "GB-stock-safe_v5.zip".
This contains the needed firmware and Odin tool to flash it.
Follow the soft brick guide given by gogol1996 with the content of the zipfile and you're back in business.

No such thing as a "soft brick". It just a term that newbies like to throw about for any occasion they haven't flashed device correctly and dont know how to use download mode or recovery to get their OS back up and running.
Your device is either "bricked" or it isnt. If you can use download or recovery, it isnt.
Here we go again.
What about if you can get to download mode but the internal flash is stuffed?
A few guys here got that. Not a brick?

Ok sorry, edited. If you can "use" download/recovery its not bricked.
99.9% of times the term "soft brick" is used though its simply that the user doesn't know how to use download mode and they have screwed up rom flash/kernel, get no boot or just boot loop etc and cant use recovery.
I like your original definition else where that says it is not bricked as long as you can flash it.
But that is obvious.

Thanks to all of you, i have fixed my device. now it goes in recovery mode and in downloading mode. i guess i have only to put a new version of android on it and i'm cool
Depending on your luck.
Some people can go to download mode but flash keep failing due to damaged internal SD.
You can read about here somewhere.
Good luck.

That usually only happens though when you are flashing via USB and you lose power or pull cable early etc, ie pull handbrake when flooring it
so there is a possible brick even if you have download/recovery mode.. another new thing I learn daily.

to hard brick your tab, ie to make it useles, you have to delete the bootloader files (boot.bin & sbl.bin) from the .tar package before flashing

bring it to a shop for JTAG.
Or maybe you can try the Unbrickable Mod

before writing, I'm so sorry for my pooooor English.
I live in Toronto, Canada. I bought my Galaxy Note(SHV-E160L) from Korea, so change sim card from LG U+ to Rogers.
but when I sleep, Note encounter Unlimited Reboot.
so I try to repair in 3-way.
first, Factory reset. but I could make Download mode only, couldn't make Recovery mode.
so I try Samsung Kies Recovery mode, but Kies show me binery Error.
last, I want to use ODIN, but ODIN show me Error Message, too.
"Complete(write) operation failed"
What this means?
If it can't be repaired, I must send my cell phone to Korea.
I'm very embrassed...
please help me!!
and Merry Christmas for you
Is it sticking on factoryfs.img in ODIN ? this usually means its bricked which kernel where you on when you did the factory reset ?
I had a similar issue last week, stuck in odin, everything failing, I was convinced it was bricked, I manage to repair it by (no joking here) flashing a million wrong things in ODIN.... But DO NOT TRY THIS lol
try to flash a safe kernel through ODIN, and then see if it bring back recovery, then you can wipe and flash a new rom (hopefully)
otherwise there is the pit file method to revive from a brick, which works well, but loses around 3gb of internal sd space
hello
hello bro...
try this method:
download a stock gingerbread rom then go into download recovery, flash it with odin, root your phone.
from here you can install any custom rom, this is how i do when i got bootloop.

Same problem as OP
Hello guys,
unfortunately, I have the same problem with my 32GB SHV-E160L as OP. Little backstory:
I bought the GNote in Korea and brought it back to my country. I successfully rooted it with one of the guides here on XDA (Tegrak kernel, no OC whatsoever). No problems so far, the phone worked for weeks and I was able to do what you can do with rooted phones. One day while surfing the net it just crashed and was stuck in a boot loop. This is where I am now.
I tried:
Go into tegrak recovery. result: It gets stuck on samsung logo, funnily the phone would establish a usb connection if plugged in (as if in download mode)
Reset from Kies. result: After beeing told by Kies to go into download mode, instead of flashing the new software it gives an error message in Korean about missing binaries (see attachment)
Flash from odin. result: the dreaded red box with "fail" appears after the NAND write command
Now, after doing my research here on XDA I found out that my emmc might have damaged partitions and I need a PIT file. Here's where I'm stuck.... I can't find a PIT file for my 32GB note, only for the N7000 or the I717. And I don't want to mess things further up... so if anyone here could provide me with a PIT file, or tell me how to fix the phone through other means I would be really grateful
Thanks in advance....
You should ask hg42 if he can make one - in his thread I read that he did this before even for other devices.
So try a pm or post in his thread. Good luck
