Hello,
My O2X is almost dead. I can't power him up and I can't access the S/W Upgrade Mode (Vol down and plug in USB, with or without battery) to use Smartflash or KDZ Updater.
The only way I can get some life signs it's in the APX mode (Vol up, Vol down and plug in USB, no battery). However, when I try to use NVFlash to restore it with Paul O'Brien's release of stock firmware (from Modaco), I'm getting stucked at "waiting for bootloader to initialize".
This happens every time. I'm using the official USB cable and had tried all the three USB ports on my laptop (OS Win7 64 bit).
I'm getting desperate. Since I live in Brazil, the risk that the LG assistance will blow out in my face, for rooting the phone, it's HUGE. I believe they will look carefully into it.
So, am I screwed or not? Any thoughts?
Thanks, in advance.
Hi i doubt they will dig some evidence of rooting if the device is that dead. Fist step they do is flashing official rom anyway, if it will be still bricked, they will replace motherboard.

It's hard to know since you don't mention how it all started... I would say they'll replace it. I also suggest changing the drivers on the PC but I assume you don't get any signs of life by just charging it.

I have doubts of how it started. But, there were two main problems. I'm going to write it down in cronologycal order:
- In the afternoon, I did a backtoEXT3 (I was using CM 7.2 RC) and a flash of the Modaco ROM. Everything worked perfectly;
- In the evening, my O2X suffered a considerable fall, hitting hard on the floor. But, it continued to work;
- Little later on, I noticed that the phone became a little laggy. Then I decided to turn it off and than on again (since Modaco doesn't have reboot). In the power on process, the phone stood stucked for several minutes in the first "LG" screen. I decided to remove the battery and tried a new boot. That's when the phone went "half dead".
My purpose with this post it's to known if I can try something different or if I should go directy to the LG assistance.
I'd appreciate any help you guys can give me.
Maybe the falling hit it too hard, so it could be a hardware problem. Try apx/smartflash on a different computer (32bit), if it doesn't work, then give it in.

Yup, if LG can't start the phone, they will change motherboard. Not worth their effort to diagnose

I've downloaded from www.lg.com a software "LGMobile Phone Software Update Tool Install" and running always freezes with approx. 10% of progress-bar. (in each windows xp, vista and 7)
How long must i gonna waiting?
Same thing happened to me today.
I got it to work by rebooting my computer.
However it was not worth the effort. The tool informed that an update was available but then after a couple of other steps then it then informed me that my phone LGP990 (Optimus 2X) was not supported by the update tool
Jake
same here...
update tool
Same problem here.
I had the same problems using the program when connected to the internet through a proxy server. It seems that you need a direct internet connection to start the program.
Anybody knows why the on the phone "check for updates" menu is giving id check errors or not running at all??
I wasnt able to update the phone The update freezed, and I got the message to unplug my phone and take out my battery I tried it several times with no luck Finally I changed the cable, and the phone updated fine The cable I used first was a brand new original cable I think there is something factory wrong with the cable and the charging unit It doesnt seem to charge the battery as it should do either I am taking it bacj to the store today for repair My LG O2x is running 2.2.2 like a dream now

LG Mobile Update Tool
Guys, I had a bad experience with the LG Mobile Update Tool. My recommendation is DO NOT USE IT. Here's why:
I recently got 2 Optimus P500 for me and my gf, experimented on my phone updating to 2.2.2 using this tool. Everything went fine until it got stuck at 50% or something and the phone's screen on Emergency Mode. Luckily after removing my battery and turning on the phone, it booted fine and I checked the software version and it updated, that was my 1st scare.
Now, after convincing my gf to update her phone as well (she witnessed my 1st scare), I start doing the same thing with her phone, it downloads the update blablabla when it is supossed to start flashing it got stuck at 4% and it lost connection to the phone. The phone was in Emergency Mode as well so I proceed to remove the battery, it boots, I check the software version it was 2.2.1 (same version it had) so I decided to retry (BAD DECISION). I plug the phone back, and hit Retry, it starts updating, then again it gets stuck on 4% and loses connection. The phone's screen in Emergency Mode, I remove the battery again and no luck. Now it just boots straight into Emergency Mode and my PC won't recognize it.
Now, I'm not an expert on these phones but there's the KDZ tool which you can find somewhere in this forum and use that. Find the latest .kdz for your phone and flash it yourself without using the Mobile Update Tool, I should've done that myself after the 1st scare.
My optimus P990 got stuck while using update tool...can't get it runnig again. Please wait while upgrading.....for four days now. :-(
I am wondering if I made the right choice switching to LG instead of SEx10!
i was facing the same problem, then i switched the cable onto another USB ports of my PC... suddenly it worked... but if i knew it's not worth it, i wouldn't have it done...
sucks, now i have to re-install all of my apps and restore my datas...
LG firmware upgrade 4% emergency mode problem
I agree -- if you are considering upgrading your LG P500 Optimus One firmware, then I would suggest that if you are happy with the way your phone is working then it's not worth the risk of the problems that it could cause you.
In my case, like a previous post, I was going through the process of installing my first firmware upgrade for my Optimus phone -- it also stopped at 4% and there was another window in the background saying that the USB connection had failed (even though it was still connected). The phone was showing a yellow screen saying it was in "emergency mode". I had previously decided to do the upgrade after scanning the internet for any possible problems that people had with their LG firmware upgrades, and had read about the "emergency mode", but trusted the software to do it's job, so I was surprised that this was also happening to my phone. Luckily, after taking out the battery and restarting the phone, it booted up to my usual screen and I hadn't lost any data. It is not as responsive as it was before, sometimes apps don't respond, so something may have been written to the phone, though I don't want to go through the process like before and have problems occurring.
Therefore, my advice is to NOT upgrade firmware using the LG software until they can improve it and not have everyone facing these kinds of problems.
I tried to update my phone with the official software. Halfway through, it said it lost connection with the phone, and then after following the instructions, and taking out the battery and trying again, it said that the phone did not require updating. Unfortunately, it would turn on, being stuck at "Software Upgrading. . . ", so I had to use nvflash to sort it out. The LG update software is flakey, and I wouldn't risk using it!
so how to by pass the hanged phone now?
i encountered yesterday.
I also have freezes too often with software and i reported about it to LG and they just said "try with another computer"...
If my computer can't ****ing handle that **** bit soft then no other computer can i would say...
But thats LG and their taughts... bad devs!
i have the same problem, install freezes at 10% so so...
but had somebody deleted all the LG registry entries to try reinstall it????
i'll take a look at it
possible fix
I tried something and it started updating again. You should try to go to the "Customer Support" tab on the LGMobile Support Tool and click on "Recovery Phone." Now look on your phone for the IEMI # and enter that in the IEMI field, then hit check. It should start the update process again. Hope this works.
Stupid LG
To make it work use Windows XP or windows 7, then put the phone in upgrade mode (turn off, press volume + button and plug into usb) then hit retry on the ****ing tool
I just bought the phone and using LGmobile update. It downloaded a file about 420mB and in the process update I got a message problem communicate with your phoneme. please disconnect take phone out etc.. and turn phone on and connect.
I follow the instruction but my phone won't turn on regardless to what I do.
Please help.

Follow every step but got stuck when it trying to flash and stop at 20% just like when I update using LG software. Order new battery hope fixing the problem. My first LG android phone can't return bought it on craigslist
Hopefully the battery will help...good news is if you can connect and start the flash each time it is not bricked...i have not seen this problem posted before so doubt it is hardware...does adb see it...if so i would try to wipe system and data and reflash...i would also pull sim and sd card before flash to see if that helps ?

Replace the battery with new and same problem, my phone doesn't even read my AT&T sim card.
Any button that I can do hard reset?
I had this same problem is your phone not turning on or just not downloading the update? I bricked my phone installing the update and it can be fixed but if you having problems with the connection during update you gotta keep trying it will go through. If it wont turn on at all there is a fix.

This is the problem:
1. I bought new phone on Craigslist running 2.2 and everything working.
2. Connect to PC and set up driver, software etc.. there is an update so I did.
3. Got stuck about 17-20% and message disconnect and re-reconnect etc.. and I did.
4. Ever since I can't t urn it on unless connect to a charger.
5. I will not read SIM card and kept saying reorganized when check on setting and mobile network.
I am stuck here cause tried so many time. Also, phone turn off with full battery charge but next morning when I turn on completely drained. I think software screw up some how during the initial upgrade. Just don't know how to fix it
OK try this take your battery out and plug it into your computer and hold the volume down key until you hear or see your computer recognize it. It should beep a couple times. Be sure to leave your phone off this whole time. Open up your LG support tool. Once it says your connected open the customer support tab. Click on "Recovery Phone." Enter your phones info and click the check button. It should take you through the steps from there. I had the same problem and had also bought it from craigslist. The good news is even if this doesn't fix it, your phone is less than a year old and can be sent to LG for a fix or they'll send you a refurbished phone. They will want a reciept but if you don't have it just tell them you tossed it. Same for the box if you don't have that. They will do it just start getting angry if they give you the run around. I was freaking out just like you LOL. I couldn't find anything on the web and the LG lady was just as stumped as me... I just happened to try this before I sent it in and it worked. Let me know if you have any luck.

As far as the update goes I eventually did get it to work. Just keep trying. I plugged it in to try again one time and it said my phone was already updated. I went and checked and sure enough it was. The visual change isn't dramatic your signal bars turn green and you get some more bloatware like a 3d game converter. The reason for this is the phone has a custom LG UI and will not adopt the gingerbread UI. Don't freak a lot of people insist its not GB but it is. There is a lot more to a OS than the user interface.

Warranty thru LG or at&t? You mind give a little more. I didn't even know LG has a warranty in US?
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
The warranty is through LG at&t wont do anything for you cause they will know you got it off CL. You'll need your imei and your s/n from under your battery. I wouldn't tell them you got it off CL. The only way this wont work is if the previous owner registered the phone with lg which is unlikely since they didn't even have the GB update. Call 18002430000. Again do not tell them you got it from CL. The phone is under a year old and they will do it for you. If it has to be told that it isn't yours say you had a step brother or friend give it to you. They will want a reciept but you can tell them you tossed it all and your imei Ans s/n will be enough. Also tell them it happened using their support tool. Good luck.

download mode: I got a little confused cause someone told me take battery out connect phone to PC and put battery back. Yours didn't mention anything about put battery back in
Yeah when I did mine it wouldn't turn on at all even when it was plugged in so I think i left my battery in and did it bc it wouldn't respond to anything. I would try to get it to recognize with the battery in but if it turns on after you do plug it in then it will need to be out. You can try to put the battery back in after the computer and the LG support tool recognizes your phone bc after it gets done it reboots. I'm not sure if the battery is needed for it to work but mine was in but you can try it multiple times with it in and out. I freaked out too I had just bought the phone off CL and plugged it in to update and it had the connection failure a couple of times and then poof nothing no vibration no boot screen nothing. The LG people tried getting me to do a hard reset and when that wouldn't work she told me I would have to send it in and that it was still under the manufacturers warranty. I was desperate to say the least so I tried all kinds of combinations. The key is to get your pc to recognize your phone while it is off. If you can do that with the battery in I would try it that way first. If you don't have the box you will need to copy down the phones info, (IMEI and S/N) which is under the battery, for the recovery phone part of the support tool. It worked for me so I hope you have some luck with it. Also I would consider waiting until the ghost call thing gets fixed before you go to gingerbread. If I had known I would have stayed with froyo until they fixed it.

Volume down for recovery and so on. Volume up for download from tool.
If your doing the recovery method that TheDarkLestat setup then your gonna need to do the software setup and drivers step by step. Assuming you have done that. Remove the battery then plug the USB in and quickly hold down the pwr, and vol UP till it vibrates then let go. Start the loader and place the battery back in while its doing its thing . Then don't touch it till its done.
Only simply way I can think of to repair a soft bricked thrill. As long as it loads to recovery or download then our phone Is fixable. You might be able to politely ask TDL to remote in and provide a fix. He was doing that for a lot of us for a while. Though if your not gonna donate for his time then don't bother lol.

I have a Samsung Captivate i897 for AT&T
Firmware version: 2.2 Froyo
Ok, so I had tried to foolishly upgrade my phone through Kies to 2.3 Gingerbread, knowing that I was
upgrading to the SIII in a few weeks anyway. Kies came back with a response that the upgrade
could not be finished, so I proceeded to follow the instructions and do an emergency recovery
of the phone, but after a while, that also failed.
After the recovery failure, I ended up with the "phone ! computer" screen (fromw what I've found, a
disconnect of the phone and computer). It took me several tries, but I found a forum somewhere
that showed me Odin (something I had never really played with for fear of bricking my firmware).
I followed the steps outlined in an xda forum by opening Odin and trying to flash the phone
back to stock.
But alas, my phone's screen turned red...which from some forums seems to be a problem with the
Odin installation. I had looked around a bit more on how to fix this issue, and eventually
arrived again at the Downloading... screen. This was promising at the very least,
but trying to connect to my computer started to fail. I would continually get "USB device
not recognizable" by Windows. I've tried multiple USB ports, reinstalling the phone drivers,
but could not get Kies or Odin to recognize it.
Now...the worst part. Someone somehwere suggested to restart the Download mode, which I did,
and now...the phone won't even return to the Downloading... or phone/computer screen. It's just blank.
Some have suggested that the USB cable or USB ports (more likely the computer) may be at fault
here as well. So I have ordered a cheap USB cable off of Amazon to maybe solve this issue.
The phone does not boot up to any screen, nor does it seem to charge (either in wall or
computer).
So my question is..., does anyone believe I have achieved an unsurmountable task in "bricking"
my Captivate, or is there hope yet that I can revive it from the dead. I plan on selling it online
for around $85 so that I can lower the price for the SIII, but a bricked phone won't get
too much.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to anyone who can enlighten me a bit here.
If u have zero signs of life, even when plugged into the wall charger, then u r hard bricked...

What did you do before losing download mode/phone-!-computer? Did you flash boot loaders?
Sent from my SGH-I897 JellyBro
If you are interested in trying to save your phone instead of scrapping it for the S3 you might look into either making a jig or ordering one. There is a thread somewhere on here that shows you step by step how to make one and it will force the phone into download mode if it's not completely bricked.
I have made one myself and it worked flawlessly and provided you have an extra micro usb sync cable that you are willing to destroy in the process it will cost you less than $5 to make.
been there..and i fixed mine
can you still do the up+down volume and plug usb to download mode?

Dont know if this method works but its still an option for you to try, might as well.
Install Odin3 One-Click Downloader [I897UCJF6-final-OCD-REV0.exe] mediafire /?0w2y31maz8mdom4 (I cant seem to post link because Im a new member)
Its basically a hard format.
-Unplug your Phone from USB
-Launch the application
-Take out your battery for about 30 seconds and place it back
-Press and hold Volume Up & Down buttons
-As you're holding the 2 buttons, plugin the USB
-If the application recognizes your phone, just click [START] button and it will wipe everything on your phone (And I MEAN EVERYTHING, so its a sacrifice of losing whatever you had on to fix your phone), and have your phone in factory mode.
I fixed my phone when it was bricked this way. I reinstalled all the mods and updaters.
Hope it works for you!
So I was flashing my OB with a newly rooted verion of 20i using the auto root tool and began flashing it. I've done this before many times without issue. This time part way through it stopped and eventually I got an error saying it had timed out. When I pulled the plug and plugged it back into the OB to try again, it won't go into sw upgrade mode. It won't do anything. Even if I try to power it on using my batter, charger etc...nothing.
Did I fry the OB?? I think I made the mistake of not having the right files for the CP and AP bin selections (backwards) but I can't imagine I fried it?

Auto root tool? Do you mean smartflash tool? If your referring to smartflash tool, it happened to me before. After flashing 4 times a got an error and saying i had a time out. What i did is just turn off the phone and leave it for an hour maybe 10hrs After that try to turn on the phone or try to flash again. If you have problem entering sw upgrade mode try to hold the volume up a little bit longer like 1 minute until it enter sw upgrade.

Yeah the timeout was with the smartflashtool it happened to me and just like what i said before i pull out the battery and i leave it for an hour then i flash rom again using smartflashtool. Try this hold volume up( keep holding even it takes 1 minute just hold it) then connect it to the pc using usb. Keep holding volume up until it enter sw upgrade mode. I have a case sometimes that it takes 30 secs to enter sw upgrade. In case you enter sw upgrade and you flash rom check also if you still have battery left on your phone. Don't unplug it quickly just take some time to charge the phone. If this method did'nt help you, I think you need to go to lg service center. But before that try your best and look for all possible solution to your problem.

Doesn't look like its going to work. The PC won't see it and it won't turn on. Tried a few different computers too. I'll leave it overnight with the battery out but likely it'll be shipped out tomorrow for repair.
I have to say, after just shy of a year of ownership with this thing, this is the first phone to pile up on me like this. Yet another reason why I'll never buy LG again. (Oh and their refrigerators SUCK too!)
GOOD NEWS! My replacement phone came in today!!!
BETTER NEWS!!! It's a Galaxy S2X and I'm putting a modded ICS for my carrier on it as we speak! Far better phone, and way more support.
Thanks to devs for your hard work here. Sorry there were so many tools asking for ETA's. I hope there are less foolish people in the Galaxy thread.
Peace
Lucky you!!!
I must try that trick and fry my phone too.
Really hard on the devs trying to fix stuff without full source code and drivers available. I am on the verge of swapping my ob plus some money for s3 right now, will wait until September but that will be the end of it.

LG NO MORE!
Hey guys, I'm no regular here but my friend has a LG Optimus 2X which I rooted for him and installed AOKP (this was a couple of months ago).
Anyways, today I saw him and he said he was having problems with the sdcard in the phone so I took a look and found that the sdcard, was for lack of a better word, ****ed. In CWM I tried to partition the SD many times, to no avail, and each time CWM hung up at partition command. When I saw this I pulled out the battery, and the phone worked as normal. The last time however, I did the same things, but when booting up after the battery pull I tried putting it into recovery mode (which I believed to be pressing all three buttons in while booting (STUPID ME)). Anyways, now the phone refuses to do anything at all (ie. boot up, vibrate, turn screen on or indicate charging). I plugged it in to charge at the possibility of a dead battery, and the phone is getting a little warm (good sign?!?!). I'm not sure where to go from here, but from what I've seen there haven't been many complete bricks of this phone, only soft bricks. SO.... (sorry for such a long winded post) does anyone know where to go from here? Many thanks in advance, as although this phone is also Android, it's fairly new to me.
-Adbirdie
First thing first: To check if the phone is dead or not, take out the battery. Hold volume-down while plugging in a usb-cable attached to the computer. This should bring up a software update screen. If it does not, it might be dead.
Secondly, if its alive, the Wind is a P999, not a P990, so head over to the G2X-forum and look for smartflash or nvflash-instructions there.
You'll want to look for the thread titled something along the lines of "ROM for recovery under NVFlash" it will place stock tmo 2.3.3. Then look for one click recovery installer which again uses nvflash. All in the tmo g2x section. Which should be labeled as p999 section. This should be labelled p990 section.

OMG. I LOVE YOU (NO HOMO). All I did was check if the software update screen would appear (it did), after that I tried booting the phone up normally again, and it did XD.
Thank you so much man you saved me a lot of time.
You're welcome. I wish all problems were solved as easily
