RULE #1 ALWAYS RETURN TO STOCK TO RULE OUT WHAT EVER CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE ARE NOT CAUSING THE ISSUE
It really irks me to think how many units have been RMA'd and the consequences of increased cost of future devices because noobs don't have the common sense to follow this basic rule.
Mods can you please make a sticky?

Anyway, it's happening to me and I haven't found a solution. I did read this thread though: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20540860&postcount=9

Wow i forgot all about this thread. I flashed stock and it fixed it, after that i did a little reading through google and i found that there is nothing wrong when this is happening. Although it shouldn't really do it. But its ok, just more of an annoyance.

your n7 cleaned his cache with every reboot
i think you can implement this into your startup script obviously it is too late to find it out now but i think we could have fixed it without complete wipe although if ,,you'' played around with your system without knowing it it is a good time to do a full wipe.
that s how i do it with my phones and tablets: it behaves in a way i don't expect it to do -> wipe.

So who all out there, when you get a new phone and are ready to root it for the first time, get even a little nervous about bricking your new toy, even if the method is solid and sound? I know I almost have to pump myself up to root my new devices, and then realize I'm doing it, and think it's rather silly. Just wondering if anyone else does this.
Rooting? Nah, no reason to be nervous about that at all. Even the first time I flashed a Rom I simply made sure it was a day that if I messed anything up I could go without the phone for a while if necessary.
Just a tiny bit, but more excited than anything. It's pretty fun imo

There's nothing to be nervous about. As long as you carefully follow instructions, you should be fine. It's actually quite difficult to brick a device. I still don't understand how people do it.

First time I root my device I was nearly s***ing my pants. Now it's nothing spectacular, but using Odin always give me the creeps. Also rooting and flashing devices of friends is a little adrenalin rush
Nice device but the drop down menu is nasty and the stock keyboard leaves something to be desired The stock launcher is also driving me nuts (no landscape). Rooting the thing was also a nightmare but I suspect 2 of my 3 my PCs were the culprit. I finally rooted and tested the N7 against my Tf101 Transformer and a little disappointed that FF7 plays identical on the new Tegra3. Perhaps FPse isn't taking advantage of the new cores. Meh.
I bought the tablet last night on a whim. I walked into staples and they had a bunch. Overall the build quality is great. Feels like a stout little tablet. I'm just not sold on the Phablet mode. I already have a GalaxyNexus and it kinda just feels like a large version of that.
I definitely am going to try tablet mode and a new keyboard (thumb keyboard was my choice on the 10"). I also recommend just unlocking ASAP just so you don't lose everything if you decide to root in the future.
Overall the device is a good buy for the $$ but just a heads up for new owners with prior tablet experience that it feels a little off from other tablets IMO. This doesn't have to be a bad thing.
I was pretty impressed with the battery even for through the night. I picked it up at 5pm and was pretty much constantly on it testing and rooting and testing until 3am. I gave it a good charge over night so well see how today goes.
Now if the awesome devs here can somehow get HDMI out working, I'd be set.

Easy, guys. OP said his PCs were the reasons for the rooting nightmare. Probably ADB drivers or something.
And OP is just telling the community a few observations. I hardly think this is a complaint thread.
Drivers exactly... plus Windows 8. And for the record rooting has never been the problem... just driver issues. Plus if you look at my signature, you'd tell I've been around.
Anyway that said, the thread was just posting my initial thoughts and woes for new owners. Windows 8 is the future and its driver protection crap is horrible. If you guys actually found the steps for installing the drivers on windows 8, you'd know it wasn't an easy process. You basically have to reboot the Pc in a special mode that disables this security feature and really hack around with it. The Galaxy Nexus drivers went in without s hitch so it boils down to infancy drivers that aren't signed properly.
It IS an issue, just not for you guys apparently.
Overall once the drivers were locked in, yea ADB commands are cake... or use the 1 click app that's available.
Anyway, after replacing the stock keyboard to my fav Thumbs Keyboard and some heavy gaming, I got over 9 hours with almost 6 screen on time. The 7" form factor fits in my cargo pocket of my shorts and very easy to tote. Very nice tablet.
Missing HDMI out. And the screens whites have a red tint compared to my Transformer. Both, hopefully can be resolved by some custom kernels.
Thanks for the unneeded ball busting comments

Don't Initial thoughts typically happen within the first day... right? Isn't that the topic of this thread? Initial Impressions...
I currently own a Nook Tablet, Asus Transformer, Samsung Galaxy 7, Galaxy Nexus, and a Nexus 7. I think I am more then experienced in Android devices to make educated comparisons between units. Nothing is really negative anyway. Battery life is stellar, even for the first day. I got over 6 hours while gaming. I'm liking the N7... alot.

My first three days with the device I didn't think it was a big deal, what's the fuss all about. But I haven't put it down since. I just love to pick it up and use it.
At first I thought it was just basically a big Galaxy Nexus (it really is) but that extra screen space sure is nice. Anyway dude, give it some time and if your anything like me you will get a lot of use out of it.
Really?! It's like everyone's getting upset because you basically said the N7 isn't 100% perfect. I just ordered a Nexus 7 a few hours ago, so I appreciate the post. I'll be the first to NOT bust your balls ( leave that to the old lady right? )
I'm glad you mentioned the sorta phone UI...every time I look at the home screen I cringe, and I was wondering what was up with it. I didn't really plan on running the stock launcher much, but I had no idea it was portrait only ( wtf? ) now I KNOW I'll never use it. Thanks for thoughts.

1. Flash the hex edited hboot that says "locked" and "s-on"
2. Flash one of the stock roms from either viper or indirect, but remove superuser!
3. Flash a stock recovery

Sprint tech here. The techs you're talking to are idiots. Our M&P officially states that we support rooted phones. Worst case scenario, they will have to RUU the phone for you. After they've done that, the issue will still be present and they'll have to order a new one for you. Go back and insist that they do their job. If you need me to, I can try to pull our M&P document tomorrow and send it to you so you can show them.

I thought that had been Sprint's policy for a long time. But I took my rooted LG in the spring for a problem with the speaker and the first tech 'flagged' my phone in Sprint's system. I even took it back home and set it back to stock. But after it was flagged I was forced to upgrade or replace it though Asurion because nobody would touch it. So you're saying I wasted a perfectly good upgrade?!? WTH?!
How long have your M&P docs stated that you'd work on rooted phones?

Yeah. Any tech that flags your device as DBR for being rooted is breaking policy and majorly ****ing people over. If root is suspected to be the cause of the problem, the procedure is to flash back to stock and wipe the device then try to replicate the issue. If the issue persists and there's no physical damage, it's a hardware defect and needs to be replaced under TEP/warranty.

My bad. I got busy today and totally forgot to snatch the M&P. Let me see if I can get it really quick before my shift ends just in case something like this comes up in the future.
Also relevant to note here is that there's a good chance your newphone will have the camera issue because, from what I've seen, there's circumstances in which ever One does it. It seems to be related to how hot the phone is. Some phones are worse than others so YMMV.
EDIT: That took all of five seconds. Official whatever thing attached.

I know that the reason it is not on here is because of I\O wear out on the flash memory.(Crappy chip)
This device can't handle the strain of ART.
I'm just a little irritated that google won't put it in the DEVELOPER!!!! options in there stock build.

im using ART on my 2012 nexus 7 without issue. sure, a few apps donr work on ART(like pandora) but the device seems like it took a dose of speed. its fast without ART, but faster with. ART isnt available on the nexus 7(2012) stock img, but it is available for the nexus 7 on aosp builds.

I love that kernel
And thanks for the second link in your sig.
I dont want to load up another build though.
And geez. I would figure that google would put it in the for crying out loud developer options.
I like it completely stock.
I start from the ground up with modifying the build to my liking.
Thats why I'm a huge fan of Xposed Framework and the Arch Linux model.
Rant^
Why complain here? is anyone significant going read it.?
I think an explanation is what we need. Obviously it was a technical issue, but like every technical issue, Google leaves us in the dark and leaves us to speculate. I'd also like to know why we can't get a kernal higher than 3.1 when nvidia actually makes a 3.4 kernal too.

I really don't care that much. As far as I'm concerned my nexus 7 feels more like an antique these days and art or a new Kernal isn't going to magically make it a tegra 4 or give it another gig of ram. I was just replying to the topic that's all, wasn't my creation
More or less agreeing with the op. But I think he meant click on the original link and post your complaints there, not here

So I've tried my hand at porting miui to our device to no avail. It's actually making me reconsider this phone. Has anybody attempted a miui 8 port yet. I shot for 7. If we can get either working I'd actually keep this device for another two years. I absolutely love the hardware and it's hard to get rid of. 6 inch screen, front firing speaker, screw a fingerprint scanner. I have all of my files on my laptop.if anyone could be of assistance.

I would to help development
I'd prepare for all the haters to start posting about how chinese roms suck, we have a nexus, blah blah blah.......I'd be willing to test it for you when you get it booted, I haven't used miui in a long time, probably since I had my galaxy s3.

Oh yea. I'm prepared. Lol. I Pay no mind to it. I've almost given up on the 7 port. Wanna try my hand at v8. If enough of us come together I Believe we can get it ported. I ran across a guide for porting v7&8 to devices with snapdragon processors.

like others its been a while since I last used MIUI (back on my old htc one x). Id be happy to see it come to the nexus, im no professional dev but I will help/test how ever I can.
Hope you port global version ( no Chinese stuff)
I love to test you MIU.
It flashes but doesn't boot. I'll post after work tonight.

please dont..
it would be neat of someone actually doing it(not that im interested in miui, because im not)
I'd love to see MIUI on the device. I used it on my old Galaxy Nexus. I like the diversity. But I hate to say it... many others have not successfully ported a working port to this device.

Yea. Crazy enough, I barely know anything about coding but it's so many retarded proof porting guides out here. With a few ppl putting their minds together I don't see why it can't get done. Lol

I think it was a kernel issue but I agree with @GenoAndroid that it can be done with all our minds!
Okay guys. Lol. I'm super late but I will be pm'ing @biggiesmalls657 in a few minutes now and we will be getting the ball rolling. I've been on 6 days at work for a couple weeks now and I finally have a free day

Hope some of you guys can make it happen. Miui on my note 3 was a bliss. Never experienced something that smooth in terms of speed and feeling to it.
