Two Instances of LocationServices? - Moto X Q&A

Can someone who is rooted stock check to see if there are two of these, both labeled version 1.0, but one weighing in at 120KB, and the other at 136KB?
I'm seeing two under Settings>Location, and am wondering if this is what's causing my GPS lock issues.

In titanium backup I also have 2. One is 120kb, but the other is only 4kb...And has way more permissions. Strange. But my gps works fine. Other than using gps, mine is always off.
Not sure what you mean about settings/location tho... That screen is normal. No double anything.
Weird tho.

Odd indeed. Do you see two instances in settings>apps>all?

Yup, 120kb and 4kb still

I tried to google this, but using location as a google search term pretty much throws way to much unrelated stuff at you.
Couldn't find anything about this. Lol

K... If you look at the details of the two.... One seems generic and has a one line description. (my 120kb one) and the other lists all these things it is used for... A bunch of stuff. That's my 4kb one.
I'm on 4.2.2 by the way. I'm thinking one is specifically for maps maybe, and the other is for anything else? Just a wild guess.
Both of mine have 0kb for data. I think I haven't used it at all since I factory reset a few weeks ago.
Actually, looking again... The one listed 2nd in my list in Tb looks like it may be all Motorola related.
Perhaps one is Motorolas version, made for Motorola apps... And the other is probably the stock google one. That's my official guess now. Lol

I have a LG G2 (D800) and I have two instances of LocationServices in Apps\All. They are both 4Kb in size though. I found your post while trying to figure out why there were two of them.
I am on 4.2.2 also so I am wondering if you are on AT&T. This could be an AT&T implementation of LocationServices (possibly to support their battery eating Carrier IQ service).

I am on T-Mobile with stock 4.4. Guessing these are both Moto X binaries as stock Android 4.4.2 on my Nexus 4 has neither of them.

I'm 4.2.2 on a Rogers phone...on telus. So don't think its a carrier thing.
Sent from my Moto X cellular telephone...

Was this ever figured out? I've been doing some searching and this was really the only thread I found mentioning it. On VZW motoX 4.4.2 seeing the same thing. One at 120KB and one at 134KB. The bigger one has far more permissions.

that's normal, one is used by motorola and the other one is for google, don't know why...but it's not malware or anything, so nothing to worry about.

I'm on xt1058 retail 4.4.3 and I also have this doubt. Got 2 locationservice since 4.4.2 (first time I realized there were 2)

4.2.2 had it too. As said above
....must be a Motorola thing.

Mine are 316k and 344k, Ive both GPS and WiFi location on so presume from one poster who had 120k and 4k and only GPS enabled that one is GPS the other for WiFi

I'm only curious because I've noticed what seems like more than normal battery drain lately with really high counts of com.google.androidgms.nlp.alarm_wakelock_locator alarms waking the device. Thought maybe this had something to do with it but I guess the hunt continues.

Bought another HTC One (M8) it's a little different

My 1st phone I bought on day one started with S/N FA has the "NO 3G of Death".
Sprint still has not even given an ETA on replacement (since last Sunday). F that. So I bought another one.
I did buy a Galaxy S5 first at best buy but they were $100.00 more. I caught them just before closing. When I got home my wife asked, oh you bought a Verizon Phone !!
So I returned that and figured if I'm gonna buy and return something why should BestBuy pay the price. I'll let Sprint take that hit.
So I did compare every setting in every ##nnnnn# I could find.
They were EXACTLY the same. Including Signal Strength.
But I noticed this phone is a little different. For one it works, that's always good. Side By Side they do not behave the same. On multiple Towers.
I notice the Power button is way more recessed. I like that. The first one was kind of high.
Second on my first one holes behind the speaker grill on top and bottom look whitish on the right half.
On the new phone they are black (hollow) all the way across.
This phone Serial S/N starts with HT.
Hardware Rev is the same.
I have applied S-OFF, Unlock, Recovery (Captains 2.7.0.7 this time) and running Bad Boys Harman 1.1. But I'm staying on Stock Firmware for now. Stock PRL too.
The Sprint fellow (through chat) that helped me activate the new one, was very good. We tried everything to fix the old one. By activating new one, then going back to old one etc.
It just misbehaved.
Some Sprint people thought it was my account. Nope.
Some Sprint people thought it was my towers. Nope.
It was the phone.
Still not 100% sure if it's hardware or software.
I did back it up with QPST first thing.
I can confirm that this does happen on HT serial numbers as well, waiting for my device which should be there on tuesday
Interesting. I had five OG Evo's, and three Evo Lte's. I remember the certain build of the Evo's having issue's, and trying to avoid those. I have an FA. Runs smooth.

I saw a tear down video that showed spring contacts to connect the antenna's BEFORE I bought it.
When I saw that, I thought, oh sh$t not again. HTC One X (I think that was the model, the model year before M7) was plagued with antenna Issues.
Some DIYers soldered wires to connect the antenna to fix it. I never had an issue. You could squeeze that model to "Temporarily" fix it because it was plastic.
You can't squeeze the M8 to test the Theory.
I was very tempted to take my broken M8 apart and retention the clips. I may still, since the broken one is going to be returned anyway.
You can see it in this Tear Down.

I could be completely wrong that those spring clips are related, but I was concerned BEFORE I bought it.
So I'm concerned too. One day at a time. I still prefer the M8 over S5 (Having never owned a Samsung).
I might have HTC repair my broken M8. Since I have a running phone (at the moment) I have the luxury sending it to them.
I just googled it. In the case of the old HTC One X it was the WIFI Antenna

I came from the galaxy s3, it was a damn solid phone. Never had issues with it. I like sense more than TouchWiz though. I just was in sprint chat again and they told me to go to a different store, and that they advised the store that the device doesn't seem to be working properly. I'll be going there tomorrow to see if I can make any headway. If not, I may end up switching carriers. Not sure yet.

I feel your pain man. Every store I went into I was more upset leaving. With them saying things like we know it's broken, we have shinny new ones here we can't give you.
You have to wait in line for a refurb.
What really got me was I was on the phone getting status on my back order and asking why he can't give me one from the store, you have them in stock.
He said "who told you that, we don't have any". That's the same store I bought the 2nd phone at !!!
I was ready to dump them too. But they are all the same. I have Verizon for FIOS and they are just as slimy and way more expensive.
TMobile seems reasonable but I'm not sure I trust having a GSM phone at my cabin. Most GSM phones get no service up where my Cabin is.
I also have the SERO 500 plan on two lines.
Sprint used to be much better in situations like this. I've never seen anything like this. I think I've been with them for like 15 years. New phone every year.
I think I'll be buying my next phone through BestBuy. But it's tricky with SERO Plan because I don't think BestBuy can activate it.
And I won't be buying another phone on release day. I rarely do.
I have the same plan. Hopefully I have better luck tomorrow. I don't know what carrier I would switch to anyway.
Just so you know you can't go just on the first 2 characters.... That just says where it was made....have to use the next few to determine a time frame... Seen some come out of the same factory and be world's apart.
There's a thread in the One forum going over SNs.....
Sent from my 831C using Tapatalk
I'm amazed you still have the SERO plan. I had it then Sprint made me move to a new plan when I got my OG Evo when that came out.
Looking through other forums like T-Mobile and their new phones and there isn't much talk about this. Makes me wonder about good ole Sprint.

Yeah this is the first time I ever heard of this. I just switched to T-Mobile but still browse the Sprint forums to see whats happening in my old neighborhood. Ive never heard of the "No 3G of Death" on any other carrier forum. I wonder what the issue could be???
I don't think that Sprint has their network hitting on all cylinders. Upgrading their system to Sprint Spark while releasing flagship phones hasn't been smooth.

The Network has it's issues. But this phone (some instances) has issues of it's own.

Moto X for $220

I can get an unlocked Moto X from someone on craigslist. They bought it from amazon in May and are willing to provide the receipt.
I currently have a LG G2 but the battery has become defective. It happened the first time I got the phone but I chalked it up to a fluke. Then it started happening more and more as time went on, but it was infrequent. But now it's happening daily and at the point where it will lose charge nonstop during the day and if I don't touch it I'll be lucky that it will make it by the time I get home at night. There is NO wakelock, my phone sleeps very well. GSAM and Wakelock detector and BBS cannot find any reason why this is happening. I've tried numerous factory resets and have very few apps on the phone, disabling a lot of the carrier bloatware. This is definitely a hardware issue.
So I know that the Moto X+1 is going to unveiled on Sep 4 but who knows when it'll actually go on sale, or worth the new phone sticker price at this point.
So what do you guys think? Should I go ahead and get this Moto X if it's in good condition? I'm really torn at this point because my phone has become so unreliable. Sometimes I'll go to bed with it at 100% and it will drain during the night to 0 and I've missed my alarms in the morning to wake up even.
Why don't you replace the battery ? Moto X+1 should be good

These are AT&T's requirements:
1. Does the device power on and off?
Yes No
2. Is the screen intact, free of any chips or cracks, and functioning correctly? Loading
Yes No
3. Is the body of the device free of breaks or cracks in the housing, keypad, hinge, or battery cover?
Yes No
4. Is battery included?
Yes No
5. Has the Activation Lock been disabled? (e.g., Find My iPhone, kill switch)
So my phone meets all of these I think.
If you can get Moto X in exchange without spending anything then go for it. Except camera I like everything about the phone.

Yes, but how long you had it? Exchange or return is usually a limited time. After you have to deal with the manufacturer. And obviously they will only fix or exchange. Not refund or give a different phone maker.
I'd look into it anyway.
I guess the Sprint (CDMA) versions have the lowest sale/resale value. Got a mint condition X1056 off CList for $120 sometime ago. Battery life and having only 16GB built in are my only dings against the Moto X. Nice little fella.

Go to the battery thread in general and troubleshoot your battery issues. The X can have good to great battery life.... Depending on your usage, setup and signal. And if you have issues or not.
No one should be saying battery life is poor. That only means they haven't taken the time to figure out why theirs is poor. ?

Already done/tried everything and came to the conclusion that battery is poor compared to other comparable devices i've owned. Sorry, but it is what what it is. The Moto X doesn't have good battery life in my opinion. Everything else is fine, even the camera that others complain about, i have no issues with.
I have screen shots in the Battery thread... Many.... From 6 to near 8 hours screen time... Over a 24 hour total drain. Many others do too.
Perhaps it's your usage or setup.... But it's poor for you either way. But "the moto x" in general, has outstanding battery life for the size of the battery. Which is smaller than many other devices. ?
But, you say you've done all you can.... Then I'm sorry to hear it's bad for you. I'm betting I can tell you exactly why it's bad for you if you provide info and screenshots from gsam. But not here, in the Battery thread. Your choice. ?
Sorry for the off topic.

Sorry Mr. Extreme number 1 fan of the Moto X (it seems), but you're not going to convince me otherwise of my own experience. The Moto X gets bad battery life in what i have experienced. It's not the end of the world and i don't see why you're getting such a hard up on this issue. I am but one person (amongst others i know also feel the same way) who has a differing experience, let it go. It's almost as if no one can have a different opinion/experience in your world.
"...I'm betting I can tell you exactly why it's bad for you if you provide info and screenshots from gsam. But not here, in the Battery thread. Your choice..."

What model X? is it the XT1053, XT1058 (att), XT1058(other carrier), XT1060(verizon), etc?
Is it SIM Unlocked or bootloader unlocked? If bootloader, Ask for proof of bootloader unlock.. (screen shot of fasbootAP screen showing Unlocked Status 3).
Remember, you will have no warranty on the phone, either way. At least per Moto's documents, it says warranty is non-transferable.
Are you sure the IMEI is clean/clear? Have you checked/verified with the carrier?
If its clean/clear and bootloader unlocked, that is not a bad price. But the cost of an X might dip when the X+1 gets announced.. If that happens, its almost worth waiting and getting one that is brand new with a warranty. Unless you are planning to get a non-dev and unlock the bootloader and root (which voids the warranty anyway)

Official Verizon Lollipop Betting Thread

So, if/when do you think Verizon will get official lollipop out? (I know speculation is pointless but idrc)
I'm putting 40% on it never comes out, 50% between 2 and 8 months from the d802 and 10% within 2 months of the international g2 getting it (probably next week).
date
My guess would be at the end of March or beginning of April. Probably around the same time the Galaxy S6 and One M9 (or whatever there going to call it) come out. Since it will probably be out on AT&T right before then.

I'm going to say mid-May 2015. Or maybe June. But with VZW, you never know, so maybe December just to screw with everyone.
I still think sometime in the next few weeks to a month since Verizon has been pretty quick to updating phones to lollipop. Granted they still throw all there garbage bloatware. But atleast google has been nice to create ways for people to uninstall it without having to root.
Have you seen this?
http://pressandupdate.com/lg-g2-android-5-0-1-lollipop-update-everything-know/
That article was useless since it tries to blame on the problems on "older hardware". The snapdragon 801 inside the g3 is not much different then the snapdragon 800 inside the g2. It's just companies being lazy and wanting people to buy a new phone every time there is a software update. Especially with the markup for the cost of these devices.
Look at this link someone v posted in another thread. We Verizon users might be first!

I think I'll still wait for the next update. Since Lollipop is so hit or miss on phones/tablets. I have a 2012 Nexus 7 which it works great on along with my nexus 9. A friend has 5.0 on his Verizon galaxy s5 and his phone is now laggy and the battery life is garbage.
Verizon sent out lollipop to my wife's M8 last night. Seemed pretty snappy after the install. Guess it will take a week or two before start noticing any small issues though.
I thought LG was supposed to be quick with their updates? How did HTC beat them to it?
Updating now, just got back from vacation, so don't need root and tether that much...
If I do, can always go back to 27A
I'm running stock verizon 5.0.2 lollipop now, runs pretty good. If you have a vs980 try it out

Well... This is new. Half screen freeze?

Happens at random on any ROM... Any ideas? Left side doesn't do this but right side freezes. If I lock the screen/turn it off and back on, its fine. Should I RMA it?

Additional info: Bell Canada phone. The half screen doesn't go blank, it does freeze with the last image it had. Right half vertically.

Damn, you couldn't have posted that about an hour sooner.
I just took my phone back to my carrier to have it "fixed". I will probably get a refurbished one now
I have a baby LG Android phone for a temp
If I knew it was software I could have just kept my brand new phone and stuck it out...

I doubt that it's software issue, be glad that you will have it replaced.
This is replacement 2. The first replacement was brand new but I doubt that this one will be.

For some it may be software like myself while others it is hardware. I haven't had the issue since deletion of the at&t apps. I'll update the op. Thanks

In that thread motorola confirmed it is an software issue. I am not saying they are wrong nor right, but its a start to figure out what the issue is.
Edit: Can anyone confirm if this is issue only on carrier related models or is it spread out to like GP/Motorola also?

Sorry man, I was in the discussion where the forum moderator Matt from Motorola stating this. Just found your thread and figured it be some help.
Haha, no worries.
I am pretty sure it doesn't matter if you get it from a carrier or GP I am sure I read that in the other thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/help/half-screen-t2949162

Duplicate texts on T-Mobile?

Is anyone else experiencing this? Seems to be only when I'm on mobile and from T-Mobile users only.
Yeah, I am.. Its getting annoying now.. I thought it was because I side loaded the update but then today I flashed the whole system images and still.. I do want to try and call T-Mobile and restart the network for me. Maybe that will help..

I am having the same issues and I just got this 2 days ago and now. Some people not everyone is "double" texting me its very annoying. On 5.1 I might flash back to a previous rom if I have to. I know Sprint users were having this issues but it wasn't an issue until 5.1 at least I didn't have it long enough to notice.
Edit
I am getting doubles from Verizon and T-Mobile users.
Edit 2 7:55 EST
I called a T-Mobile rep not sure I can trust them as far as I can throw them. I was informed that it is a Network issue plaguing random people and multiple devices including iPhones as well. So we will see how true that hold going to download and reflash the 5.0.1 rom and see if it works.

Did the T-Mobile rep say that we had to do anything or they would fix on the back end for everyone?

There was nothing that we needed to do. Keep in mind it could have just been the same stuff we get fed to get us off the phone. So take it with a grain of salt. Phone is almost charged back up to 50% so I will flash 5.0.1 to see if thats the issue when its charged enough.
This is a random issue of T-Mobile. I've experienced it from time to time. Sometimes I get doubles, doesn't matter whom the carrier, or I'm told I'm sending doubles. Their customer service either plays dumb, or says to do random things that won't help the fix in any way.

Been with T-Mobile for over 2 Years, With my Nexus 4 5 and now 6 and am I not sure if its T-Mobile or my new Nexus 6 but on my other devices though multiple stock roms and custom roms I have never had the issue I am having today.
Thanks for creating this thread, I am also experiencing this on T-Mobile.
So update again. I know I am posting a lot sorry for that. So still on 5.1 no re-flashing yet and the duplicate texts seemed to have stopped.
Edit
Annnnnd its back fml
Thank you for the thread. Issue started right after I fastboot flashed 5.1. Tried clearing data on both Google messenger and Hangouts but issue persists. Very annoying. I'll keep trying stuff.

And it is indeed from other T-Mobile users only
Flashed back to 5.0.1 Not sure if its a timing issue but no duplicates yet
Guys would you mind testing something for me?When I uncheck advanced LTE services in the cellular network services the issue seems to stop.
I am still on 5.0.1 with updated radio/bootloader and I m experiencing the same thing.
Test 1-5 are done without advanced LTE services
Test 6 and 9 with LTE advanced on
Has anyone tried 5.1 with the older radio? Maybe the new is causing an issue.

I unchecked Enhanced 4G LTE, and the duplicate SMS issue stops. Confirmed it via self-SMS and SMS between me and a friend who's running 5.1 on a Nexus 5.
Yeah the issue disappeared for me as well. I wonder if it's a Google mistake, or if we need additional files from T-Mobile.
Also getting duplicate texts here on T-Mobile. Does anyone know if restoring back to my stock backup would resolve? Or can I restore that, and then flash the old radio/bootloader?
Try it.. It wouldn't hurt

I'm getting duplicate texts too. Seems like they are only from people with iPhones.
