Hi, I have an international varient of the UNROOTED Galaxy Note GT N7000 which is running on OFFICIAL ICS ROM. On using 'Chainfire's Got Brick App v1.1' says:
eMMC Chip
Type: VYL00M
Revision: 0x19
Verdict: Danger! This eMMC chip is "Known" to have the brick bug!
Details of the phone:
Build No.: IML.74K.DDLPA
Base Band: N7000.DDLP4
Android Version: 4.0.3
I'm planning to sell my phone and want to delete all Google Accounts associated with it and other files, so-
1. If I Factory Reset/wipe using the in-phone method ie. the option in 'Back Up and Restore', will that hardbrick my phone?
2. If I Factory Reset/wipe using the recovery mode(3 buttons combination) will that hardbrick my phone?
I have never ever rooted my phone nor installed any leaked ICS ROMs/kernels or custom ROMs/CWM.
If all the above questions have an answer of 'Yes' then how can I factory reset my device before selling it off?
I got one answer on your 1 and 2 questions.... YES... 50/50.. either you'll get lucky and your phone will bootup fine after fully wiping it.. or it gets toasted. It's just a simple lottery draw... it's either your lucky in the first time (when wiping and booting it fine after), or you get the unlucky fate of hardbricking it.
how can you factory reset your phone before selling it??? Simple... flash it back to Gingerbread and factory reset it from there.
Cheers!

Flash to GB Stock ROM via PC Odin and wipe / format from there
Gb is safe
So flash it.....

And don't forget to format your sd card because factory reset only wipes the phone memory.

Yep - once you're back on GB.. Do your wipes in recovery, boot up and then choose to format internal / External SD's through the Settings > Storage Menu...
Ok, thanks all. Followed your guide and sold off for $483.4
Hi everyone, this is my first post in the forums!
I have two questions:
1) I am going to update my Galaxy s I9000 from stock GB 2.3.3 I9000XWJVH with no root to 2.3.6 using Odin The thing is that i dont know wich firmware shall i use, I9000XWJW6 or I9000XWJW7. Which version of odin do i have to use?
2)Do i need to do a factory reset before installing it? if answer is yes, do i have to use the 3 combo key to (home, volume up and power) in order to wipe data from there?.
Thank you!

Firmwares are based on your location, and it might be easier to just download the latest KIES and let it update your phone for you without worries automatically, but do backup your contacts images etc to your PC or to a Google drive and KIES also has its own backup...follow instructions as given in KIES carefully
KIES used to be problematic, but its improving lately

The problem is that kies keep telling me that 2.3.3 is the lastest firmware for XEF. I live in south América and there is not any New firmware for my region, and my actual 2.3.3 firmware is from france. Thank you for your time!

ok, if you want to use same France Firmware, you should download XWJW5/XXJW4/OXXJVC/Sbl (MultiCSC) or any other for Europe from Here and follow that guide using Odin3 1.85 or latest
Make sure your phone model is not i9000B (South America) with DMB TV as firmware for that would be different
Formatting SD card and factory reset would give you clean installation, but make sure you move all your important files and backups to PC or ext SD card for save keeping first

First UNDO any lag FIX , you may have applied, before doing any factory reset,
to Format SD card, you can do>menu>settings> storage> unmount Internal SD card> Format SD card
to factory reset, menu>settings>privacy>factory reset ,
yes also do the full wipes (depends on the recovery you have) for a clean installation
IF formating SD card is not your preference, you can skip it

The idea is to do a clean installation so i am thinking of formating the sd. This is my first experience with rom, odin and everything so i dont have recovery root or anything. I saw in the faq and in the forum that the metod to do the wipes is 3 key combo (home volume up and power) is that correct?

Try flashing a GB rom using odin. Boot into recovery and do a factory reset and check what happens.

Glad you got it sorted, in future never use a pit unless you're facing certain brick scenarios, it can cause more damage than good, you rarely need them.
Happy new year to all btw

Hello i have a big problem..
There was a problem with a custom rom that i flashed and when i was connecting the phone to the pc it was taking too long to show me my internal memory etc. So i decided to do a clean flash from odin by flashing an original firmware for i9305.. The phone then stuck to the samsung logo! I reflash it but still the same. I even use re-partion and stills it reboots and stays at samsung logo screen i dont know what else to do?
Tried to go into recovery and factory reset / wipe cache?

lucky for me i flashed the recovery and i had atmy internal memory an old rom.. i flash it and the phone is working now thank god.. but i can understand why it did that.. i will not be able to flash an original firmware? and btw is still slow.. i connect it to pcamd takes time to open the internal memory and external..but at least it works
I have this problem when flashing through odin. Battery pull reset data clear cache always does the trick. I usually have to put back into download mode and then restart device from there. Worth trying.

I'm trying to repair a i9070, I think the owner ticked flash lock because all the data is preserved no matter what. Reset via settings, reset via bootloader, ODIN flash 3 parts, flash 1 part versions up and down. Nothing seems to work, the device is stuck on the same firmware with the same files. Same background and same notifications. The only thing that changes is the date and time on the device.
Like I said I think the owner ticked flash lock while trying to root it. Is there anyway to repair this issue?
Enter recovery mode and try Wiping Data, Cache and Dalvik Cache from there. See if it makes a difference.
Nope

Yup, using ODIN nothing changed even with pit format and Heimdall give's an error that it couldn't upload pit.
Go to your nearest sevice center may be they can help.

I am the service... I don't think there's anything anybody can do. There's vert little information about this feature in Odin but I think it blows an e-fuse in the MMC so it becomes read-only. So unless I can repair this e-fure the MMC will always be read-only.
Maybe a riff-box can reset the fuse?
