Oh please find me the part number for this thing - Off-topic

This is kind of very off topic, hope to find the answer here before having to create an account on a electronics forum...
I just started messing around with arduinos, circuits and such, and I NEED to buy more of those things like the one in the pic

this one I extracted from a shock prank pen now I wanna know the part number/name so that I can learn about this thing and buy more of them, Im pretty sure that it is a step up transformer of some kind, it takes 3 lr41 batteries
Here I strapped the blue cover off looking for any numbers but could not find any... the only print on this thing is on the white circle soldered on the top and it has to marks 'lxm' and '6B'

IP65 style case for Athena?

Does anyone know of a supplier of IP65 rated cases (or something close to this), along the lines of the otterboxes http://www.otterbox.com/products/pda_cases/1900/ ?
There used to be a company that made clear perspex cases that I don't believe were rated to IP standards, but they looked quite nice. Can't find them anywhere on the net though, and cases purposly made for the Athena seem few and far on the ground.
TVM in advance!
Have you tried contacting OB, and seeing if they have a box that will fit the 7500? They prob. do...
dude, where do you work !! in a war zone ? don't forget that the athena can only take so much shock, although the case might be up to it you will have to pad it to protect the phone.
What an ugly case!
The ameo/athena still gets "ooooohs and aaaaahs" along with "is'nt it pretty, (pretty BIG), how do you answer it???" most times that people/nokia users see it.
OK, the ameo is'nt a beauty and its not small, why would you want to make it uglier and bigger?
maybe you have a job where it gets knocked around alot (like a night shift raiding villages in iraq under mortar fire - (well noticed ice-coffee)
however, i think i know why you need to protect your valuable piece of kit, and also why making it uglier/undesirable and bigger/impossible to lift and steal.................
Ive a feeling brummagum is not a real place??? however it is code for "i live in birmingham but i want out!!!!
I have seen many a nice phone stolen and many a person in birmingham robbed by demented hoodies that could spell "ppc"!
good thinking!!!! Now, how do i produce a 100000volt current that pulses across the metal housing of the ameo and frys any would be muggers
Did you look at Pelican? With some modifying something like this may work for you:
http://pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=1060
You'll need to add some padding inside to keep the Athena form rattling around in there but you could utilize the extra space for accessories.
EDIT: This is IP67, not IP65 but, Christ, what are you going to do with it???

Yep, Birmingham, Twinned with downtown Baghdad.
To be fair, I think in my OP, I went a bit OTT with the description, and whilst it would be nice to have a device that can save me in the event of the common drive-bys that go down, it was more of a well padded crystal case, something along the lines of http://www.pdamods.com/proddetail.asp?prod=CRDLX50 that I was after.
Oh, if only I'd used the search...

That Pelican 1060 case I linked to above also has a foam insert in the "Accessories" section.

New case!

OK then,
I was going to get a new housing for my sad looking Ameo. They come in the standard Ameo silver or a rather smart HTC black. I already have a silver case, but here is the question.
Do the black housings, wear, scratch, or paint rub away easy? I don't want to get one and find it looks crap after six months. They ain't cheap! before anyone else says it, I know it depends how you treat it. I'm on about normal wear and tear use. How does yours look now? are there any signs of the metal underneath showing?

Black Case On The "advantage"...
Hey Jay,
I have a HTC Advantage x7501, with the black case of course, and have been using it with "typical" every-day use now for about 6 months. I have never even seen one of the silver cased "Ameo" versions of the device in person, so my review is a bit "one-sided," if you will... Also, I have a friend with whom I work with that also owns the same model as I. With saying all that, and without having experienced the silver model, I would bet the silver model would hold up a bit better on the finish due to the fact that if the silver gets scratched, the metal beneath it looks much closer to the silver finish than the black. I have a couple small blemishes on mine, and I am very particular with my mobile devices, but after using day-by-day at work and home, it has managed to get marked up just a bit. The biggest problem is, if you get a scratch on it, the metal below sticks out "like a sore thumb!"
I definitely believe that the black finish is a bit more professional looking, where sometimes the silver finishes can make a device look cheap or make it stand out.
Anyways, to give you my honest account on TWO Advantage x7501 devices (black finish) after 6 or so months of daily use, it is overall good, and neither one shows any major signs of wearing finish. Also, we both use a case that the device "slides" tightly in and out of each time you use it (without the keyboard attatched), and the device really hasn't shown any real signs of wear on the sides where it rubs the case. However, if you do happen to mark it up in any way, you will definitely notice it. Again, I am very picky, so keep that in mind, but so you have a better idea of what I am saying, I attatched a couple of pics so you can see what it looks like when or if you do scratch or mark it.
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
-Ryan
Also Note: Only one of the devices I wrote about is pictured, but are very similar in condition, and were both purchased slightly used.
X7501 Cosmetics...
I have had my X7501 for almost 10 months now and it only has one very tiny mark on the top right corner (you have to look hard to even see it).
Since I'm also very particular about my devices (I always keep them looking new) I just used a Sharpie (permanent marking pen) to "erase" the offending mark. This works great and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to touch-up black anodized aluminum like the Athena housing.
Wow! thanks for the reply Guys, Ryan that was one hell of a reply. Must have took you a while to do that and I appreciate it. toyfreak, the idea with the marker pen is a great one. I think on just that idea alone I will get black. Its harder to touch up silver! It looks better too.

Jay
Indeed is surprisingly hard coating, I carry mine in my pockets and can't say I'm careful with it, rather the opposite, I have it since it came out and there is only a little wear in one of the corners, hardly noticeable, where the scratches are more visible, is on the silver border next to the screen, not that it look bad or anything.
Black housing - Where?
I would like to know where you can buy a black housing for your Ameo, mine needs a new one as well!
And what about your keyboard, can you get a black one too?

Silver / AMEO
Hi guys,
Proud owner of a wonderful brick since 6 months in grey color I should say that if I new I would have choosen a different color.
The grey AMEO housing is far from being "time resistant"...
Since few weeks the "video camera" around the front cam as disappeared and the "Alert" will soon do the same.
I allways take good care of my stuf and I'am bit disapointed for a 1.000 bucks machine to see it !

Hi,
Just a quick update on the new housing. It's arrived, and I put it on. It looks great, so glad I got black. Thanks to those who took the trouble to answer this post so well.
If anyone needs a new housing for their device then let me know and I will let you know where to get them from. He claims to have a few left!

The X7501 does not have the internal or 2nd camera, the X7500 does. So I would have a big hole in my unit if I used that one. I don't know if the inside layout is any different but that's the only visible thing on the external end.
I need a new housing too.
Anychance you could PM me a link or contact for this.
Thanks in advance.

hi
you are talking about a extra case to protect the athena right?, the thread is about replacing the cover / housing of the athena itself, a step that becomes nesesary when you not use case like your nutshell .
anyhow (and to really come back to subject ) i have to replace my housing too and wonder, why nobody can simply post the web/email adress of a reseller here?. i searched alot now an only find companies in asia and prices 'far away from reality', so if someone know a good reseler please post here.
thanks mad

Anyone that can make stickers please read

Hello, I need some help. Ive been searching all around the web for a site that will let me upload a pic I have and turn it into a sticker. Either they are too small or need to buy in bulk. Im looking for just one single sticker, about 8inches in height and 12inches in width. Maybe a little smaller then that. Is there anyone here who makes stickers and can do this for me?
Do 'em yourself. http://www.staples.com/Staples-Sticker-Paper/product_490429
Thanks ill look into that. But i need it a gloss finish
Sent from my double barrel Shooter. BANG!

I think you can search the store about stickers and ask if there are stickers of the size you need, so you will get a better answer.
Maybe do a Canva order?

Finally broke my streak 7

I cracked the screen, the reason I posted this is to see if anyone wants some of the stuff I have for it for free, I'd rather give it away to someone that might use it rather than throwing it away, it's not much stuff, 3 silicone covers, a folio type cover that doubles as a stand, the data cable, and even the broken unit, someone might be able to use it for parts, pm if you want the stuff
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
Is only the screen damaged? I have a previously donated one that had an intact screen but a damaged mobo.
I would use it to play around with the ICS beta if I had a 2nd, but at this point I dont think I'd have much to contribute on the S7 (besides documentation)
I would likely use it to update my disassembly guide to include taking apart the LCD, i didnt want to risk further damage to my good lcd as I only had one.
just bougt one
Hello, I just bought a dell streak 7 and would really like the case and other stuff, I can pay for shipping. Im new here so could you just reply in the form, Im not sure if their is some sort of message thing. Thanks!
There are private messages, just look at the top right underneath the "Welcome, spencermott" for "private messages" or just click on the one I just put in my reply then.

(work in progress) DIY Xperia SP dock

Hello all! As i saw earlier in february a user had made his own homemade sp dock, so i taught to myself to make one.
Here it's my concept and the main idea was to be a minimalistic and modular easy to mount dock. The material that i'm thinking is plexiglass (not hobbyglass, most of laser cutting workshops won't cut hobbyglass because it's made with vinyl and also plexi is more resistant). Soon i'll upload the drawing with measurements and the cad file ready to be cutted, but i need to figure out a way to make a modular holding for microcharger without affecting the dock and to do this i need to build a test model first.
Cheers!
haha im glad i inspired you, that idea looks neat and i do happen to have some plexiglass which i can use maybe when i get some fee time i can post 2 guides, for the carger try getting one with a square plastic cover over the charging tip and then cut out the glass and sort of wrap it around you will get like a charging stick type thing and with that you can make a cut out in the stand in which you can put the cable
Thanx man! keep in mind that i've used 3mm thick plexi, i forgot to mention but i'll update the topic next week probably
Cheers!

i had an idea where instead of using the 3mm plexi in layers with spacing you could use a solid piece and use a light diffuser so that the xperia sp lights diffuse into the whole stand lighting the whole thing up
I thaught myself, but i don't know where i can obtain a full piece, beside 3d printing wich is very expensive for this kind of diy project.
