I love the nexus 7. My device had the screen lifting issue and I am getting it exchanged. No complains with the exchange policy or the timing. Understand first batch of hardware faces problems but thats a small price to pay for being the early adopter.
What I am concerned with - given how prominent this screen lifting issue is- i hope google/asus is not recycling. That is, i hope they don't take my device, tightened the screw/put on new ones, factory reset, wipe it, put it in a new box and ship it out to the next guy. Coz that means the device i'm getting soon will be someone else's failed device; and given i have already tightened my screw without success, i am wary of my next device showing the same kinda progression after some use.
Furthermore, what if i get a device that had more screen issues that some unlucky folks here are talking about (i feel for them, but mine was perfect, i love the device and every aspect of it, except for just the screen listing issue). I don't want to end up with a hardware that has experienced the screen lifting issue (hence returned and recycled) and/or other screen issues that few folks have talked about. I want a brand new device - from a new batch - but i know that may be asking too much.
What do you guys think? Anybody got their's exchanged yet? If so, what are your experiences with the second device?
I guess it depends on what they told you when you asked for a replacement. If they said you were getting a new then that's what you will get. And honestly at this point they probably don't even have stocks of refurbs yet so they couldn't even send you one if they wanted.

Well, they just said "we'll send you a replacement". Did not mention new or refurb. As for stock running out, I had to be on hold for about 30 minutes (high call volume). So i'm guessing there's a lot of devices coming back and i am wondering if those will be sold later as refurbished products or sent right back out? I don't know manufacturer policies, do all devices that get sent back (even within the first two weeks) fall in the refurb category?
I just ordered a replacement for mine too for the same reason and the replacement order actually says "Nexus 7 16GB Tablet UK - New", so if there are any signs of the one I receive being anything but brand new, I will be very unhappy!
As noted, since our orders say "New" on them, Google would be breaking all sorts of laws if they send out refurbs as new.

I hope none. My speaker is rattling at anything above half volume. I didn't notice it until this weekend when I was watching zero-punctuation. I think that is the first time I've had the volume up past a quarter of the way. Calling them today.
I just got my second one today because the first had a screen separation issue and the second one was way worse, there would be a cracking sound when pressing down on the left side of the screen.

Well this is good news. I contacted Google via email on Friday to have my N7 replaced for screen separation and a bulge on the back cover also on the left side. If they are indeed shipping a new run with better quality control then I have high hopes for my replacement which should ship today. I plan to send the original back once I have the new one in hand.

Had the same problem so I called them last friday night and ordered a replacement unit. I am keeping the old one till my new unit arrives
Ive been waiting to replace my N7 until reports of a better batch. I have some screen lift but I don't want to go through multiple devices.

Same. Called Friday and awaiting second one. Delivery date on Wednesday. I had a C70 and curious to see if it's changed. Well fingers crossed for all of us that we get a nice defect free unit!
Just got off the phone with them. The rep I talked to mentioned that all the issues that they had with the first batch should be fixed also.
ETA on the new batch and what the SN starts with?

Is there anyway to identify a second prodution? I have no had any issues with mine at all.. But I bought it from a local seller that got it in on friday 8/24 could mine be a second production? Or should I be looking out for these defects? Do they form overtime? I have been looking at this thing testing everything I could think of and things I found on here but found no issues so far..
Google Support has been saying that every known issue has been resolved since launch. They're not in the loop. They're just there to read the FAQ and inspire confidence however possible. I spoke with several reps when I was dealing with screen lift replacements, and every one of them told me that it only affected a small number of units, that the cause has been identified and resolved, and that I should go ahead and order another one.
If this really is a distinctly different run from the initial units, this is potentially good news. But in my experience Google has been classing all defective units as aberrations, or saying that there was a bad batch. When your rep said that you won't have the same problem with a unit from the new run, he was more or less implying that it would be bad for you to get one from the previous shipments. If only a minor percentage of units in the initial run were defective, then there would be no reason to boast about the quality of new units.
If you'd asked him to clarify why a unit from the previous run would be a significant risk, he would have rescinded that stuff about the new ones being better.

The only issue I've got with mine is the unresponsive screen which seems to appear intermittently! A reboot sorts it out (haven't tried the apparent power on/off fix as it hasn't happened to me since I found that one out...) but if I know I've got a 1st Gen device I can put up with that until the new batches come through!
It certainly isn't any units made in the first part of this month. Still had the flicker with weak wifi.
Are retail stores exchanging the defective units or do I have to contact google for replacement?

C8OK is the new production run!
Well I just received my Nexus today and the SSN is C8OK which appears to be the new production run. Still charging but noticed no visual defects, for example, screen lift and or creaking. So far so good! DD

Exactly what I was thinking. They have been saying that since last month, people need to quit taking what csr's say as gospel. However, there are good ones in every batch (I have a c70 that is great after four replacements, so don't give up)

Those of you experiencing issues with the screen display being garbled, it finally became listed as a known issue for Sprint. This is good for those of you having it! You should be able to get into a store and get the phone replaced for free even without insurence. It will say in the "known issues" area for techs to waive the exchange fee if thats the reason its being replaced.
I had the issue and the reps said it's a known issue. Seems to be related to a certain batch of phones and the latest update. They tried replacing the screen first and it didn't fix it then he went to the spring employee forum and then he seen its a widespread issue and they replaced my phone for me. Hope this helps

Yes. That is the exact issue. I did a factory reset on mine. I dont have the issue as much. Only when it gets warm. But i am going to get it replaced

Yeah, where it it displays Snow on half the screen. We just got an offical email about it today to say that its now listed as a "known issue" for the device with an exchange waiver. So hopefully any of you with the issue can go in and get it fixed. You should be able to do so even without insurence. If they argue you that you need to pay tell them to check the site...it will say "waive fee"

Thank you for this I had to argue with the Sprint Tech support last night about this and they came up with a deal to pay my insurance for a month to swap the phone out and are sending me a new one. I reset my phone as well and haven't messed with the DPI and I have even heated it up a few times and don't seem to have the issue. I also quite running Google Now launcher and don't seem to have any problems today. Odd. Almost feel like it don't need to swap the phone but maybe I'll do the Xposed mod on this one as a test and still swap it when the other one comes....
Well it looks like they went back on the known issue and won't replace for free till LG admits its an issue. I replaced out a screen and the issue persisted for a person. Makes me wonder if it's motherboard issue. I'll keep you guys posted once it becomes official.

Are there any current known issues that they will replace the phone? I am having random reboots which is very infuriating. However, I was stupid and bought from Best Buy so I am not even sure a Sprint store could help me as they can't even activate my old phone! I have to go into Best Buy for them... I don't think I am technically a Sprint customer anymore but a Best Buy one with this weird plan they got me on that "saved" me money. $5 a month is not worth it for all this craziness I am now gong through!
Anyway, sorry to hijack this thread but I don't know if the screen issue relates to the random reboots people have been having but it seems that the first batch may have faulty CPUs according to another post. I really don't want to claim insurance because I want to be positive I don't get another phone that is the bad batch. I heard LG have been sending some people new phones so maybe I will try to go that route as the likely hood of them still having stock from the bad batch is less likely then Sprint or Best Buy.
This is the worst electronics purchase I have ever made!
It's not a listed known issue so sprint won't replace it unless you have TEP. If you do just take into a repair center and have then do all their tech crap and once they see its still rebooting randomly theyll replace it. My ATT one never did any of these stuff that sprint ones seems to be having issues with.. Makes me wonder about model numbers lol

So it started again this weekend and I think it is tied to the phone being hot. If I am running intense video play back or high graphics games it will happen. I have left everything stock just to test it out and it has returned. As long as the phone is cool then it doesn't happen but the minute it starts to warm up from prolonged screen use then the problem returns. FYI.... Hopefully the new one gets here today and doesn't have the same problem.
Newest Update. I have been discussing this issue on Facebook on the Sprint page because they don't seem to understand the difference between "Warranty" and "Insurance". They are seeing it my way but does bring to light the BS they are shoveling that you have to buy insurance on your devices for things that should be covered by a Warranty. They need to review their policies on this and make things easier on folks who have defective merchandise and aren't just clumsy with phones.

Wait I thought EVERYONE was having this issue. If you get the patch of visual "snow" on your screen occasionally, you're saying the phone should be replaced completely?
My phone also gets REALLY hot sometimes. Pretty annoying. Obviously tanks the battery

I had the same issue where the screen would get garbled, show different colors (pink/purple/blue/green etc..) all screwed up. The camera app would crash when I would constantly switch from front facing to rear facing camera. My device got really slow had to reset/reformat it a few times. I thought it was due to rooting it or whatnot. I don't think that was it. I think it was a bad batch. I sent it in to LG two weeks ago and got it back today. Their message back on the paper was replaced flash/memory.
They actually sent me a completely new device. I think the touch screen issues are gone as well as the original issue. This feels like a brand new device not part of a bad batch. I'm glad I sent it in. You should do the same. It's probably part of the same problem posted in this thread. I'm a happy camper now.

The issue I have is that I shouldn't have to pay insurance for a company to warranty something they sold me. If I didn't break the device then they should be the one to handle it for me with the manufacturer that they represent. I shouldn't have to go back to the manufacturer because they didn't sell me the device. If I had dunked it or broken it I agree I should have to pay out of pocket but that's not what happened.
This answer explains it and since I am already paying Sprint for cell service I shouldn't have to be inconvenienced as the customer to get a warranty item taken care of.

A Google answers thread isn't policy. Sprint guaranteed the phone to work in the first 14 as per policy. The warranty you're claiming is a manufacturing one, not sprints warranty. It's lgs warranty for a year.

Here's a straight answer to your issue with warranty vs insurance.
THE WARRANTY IS THROUGH LG. They are the only ones who guarantee the phone to work for a year.
Sprint Asurion insurance: Will cover your phone for 2 repairs/replacements for free in a year, after that 25 dollars a repair or replacement, and if you have a lost, stolen, water damaged, or cracked display over an inch will be a deductible.
If you don't have TEP, then after 14 days Sprint will not cover replacements for your device UNLESS its a KNOWN ISSUE. As of right now, Sprint doesn't have anything officially listed as known issue till LG admits they have a problem and work out a deal with sprint to pay for the replacements.
You're arguing that Sprint has to honor LG's warranty, which is simple not the case. If that was the case Sprint wouldn't offer insurance at all.
I appreciate your take on things and having been with other more expensive carriers the question of insurance is a matter of perspective. With At&t within the first year they will just swap the phone out. Now this may be because they charge you more for their service and as they see it they would rather reduce the hassle and take care of the device with the manufacturer. With Sprint they have chosen to try and compete on a price model that requires that they charge for insurance as they don't have the money built into the plans to cover these sorts of issues. They may never admit that openly but in seeing how the two companies have addressed similar issues that would be the appearance of it.
Either way I now know that if it want to have anything close to the device coverage I had with At&t then I have to pay for Sprint "Insurance" so be it.
I am having the vertical split screen issue as well...it's just started happening and I am up to 1 month of ownership. Where is the best place to go to inquire about an LG warranty replacement?
Been searching and reading dozens of articles about N7 recall, all repeat same story, none explains what the actual problem is. Only one mentioned something about thermal mismanagement causing thermal runaway during charge. Why would that info be important? Because if lets say some batteries don't detect battery temp properly during charge, allowing it to overheat and causing reactions to create more heat until fire (runaway effect), then temporary fix would be trivial, until replacements arrive don't use fast charge, keep the phone in cool place during charge (for example laptop cooling pad), maybe dont let it get too hot while playing games. If there is physical fault, like weak separator causing internal short etc, then avoiding fast charge may not be enough to protect the phone from fire. Also, did we have at least one problem reported in US, or is it certain markets only, like Korea? Also it seems Korean batteries are mostly the culprit, not the Chinese, which would be contrary to popular belief that Chines or Vietnam made phones are inferior. Don't seem like replacement phones will come for at least another 2 weeks and some detailed info would be helpful to asses actual risks and separate it from hysteria.
I would say this, Samsung issued a global no sell and a global recall meaning all phones regardless of components used in them. Not hysteria, fact. If they had even a known temporary solution that could possibly prevent further issues they would announce it themselves and the reason you are reading the same story repeatedly is because that's the story. T-Mobile is offering you a different phone so you don't have to wait, I understand you wanting to possibly find a safer way to use the phone should yours have whatever the issue is but either that's not an option or that info hasn't been released. The way I see it is they would not issue a recall unless it was deemed a necessity.
According to info already published, Samsung sold about 2.5 million phones, 24 in a million have issue, so estimate about 60 faulty phones total and 37 incidents already reported. it doesn't take a genius to see that either that 24 per million number is hundreds fold higher, or the problem shows up pretty much right away, so either your phone was faulty and already burned, or it is not and as safe to use as any other.
There is probably more to the story. Recall right before iphone 7 premiere! Samsung is going to take huge loss.

Thats why this whole world recall seems to me more like a PR thing than necessity, I may not even bother replacing it, depending on what the whole story is. BTW, now that Samsung sells refurbished phones, we may see a lot of refurbished N7 soon flooding the market.
It's due to people using 3rd party chargers instead of the OEM chargers that came with the phone. That's what a T-Mobile rep said when I talked to him on the phone.

Reps will never know the details of these things. Often it's regurgitated things from the skuttlebutt.

it may be combination of third party cables/chargers and some fault with battery not detecting/acting on fault condition. The first and only video I saw of N7 burn, it was said guy used 3rd party cable. There was at least one cable sold, that, due to it's faulty logic, could send 20 volts to phone designed for maximum 9v, which would cause definite damage and possible fire.
The part that bugs me is the lack of details for sure! Samsung is causing a lot of the confusion and hype themselves by not coming out with exactly what the problem is and exactly which units are affected. If it was simply a "Bad Battery" supplied to one manufacturing plant for example, then it would be easy to isolate the effected units. A simple webpage could be set up to check your Serial number and see if it is an effected unit or not. This would save a TON of unnecessary returns and would have reduced the impact of the recall greatly.
The fact that they didn't do this and just did a global recall could lead one to believe the problem is actually bigger than they are letting on. If say only 100K units were effected by a bad supply of batteries, why would a company do a global recall and possibly take back 2.4 million units if not needed? If this wasn't a design flaw and they are just going to send out new units manufactured in China for example, then I already have one of those with no issues so why should I get another one that could have some issue I don't have now? I used China as an example since some reports say that the China units were not effected.
Now if there is going to be a design change to incorporate a protection system so 3rd party charges could not damage the device or something like that, then I would mostly likely want to get a new unit. Come on Samsung, release the actual issue and what exactly you are doing to correct it!

Personally I don't believe new units could be redesigned, produced and shipped for replacement in 2 weeks and of course there is upcoming China launch, uninterrupted. Which makes me to believe only one factory made some faulty units and it seems to be Korean one. I also lean to believe World recall was more of PR gesture " we messed up, but we fixed it, so return it for full refund, or get replacement, whatever makes you happy", than necessity. I'm actually surprised Samsung went extra mile, at huge cost, to fix this, they didn't strike me before as so consumer oriented company. I like my N7 as much as I did before, it works great and until I get all data to make informed decision, I'll just be careful when charging, so in case something goes wrong (probably very unlikely), I won't burn house down, but I'm using phone all the time so would notice something wrong. 3c tools has recording option, ill run battery temp during fast charge, just to see how hot it gets, it gets warm to touch, but thats normal.

In this day and age it is more prudent to do a total recall. It would cost them far more in lawsuits if harm came to even just a few persons worldwide. What if one of these phones caught fire on an international flight and it could be proven that this phone was the cause? Right there everyone on that plane would have cause to sue, plus the affected airline. Also the brand could be ruined forever as people wouldn't trust the product anymore. It's too risky for them. I'm getting a $25.00 gift card or credit in addition to the free stuff I've already received. Plus, I don't have to give up use of my phone, I just turn it in when the new one arrives! Hell, I might even get Samsung/T-Mobile to pay for the new fire extinguisher I bought and keep next to my pillow to ease me into slumber at night, IDK, LOL!
Android central's article said it was bad batteries, the ones from China are okay. All others are questionable.

I'm with you on this, I've been digging through the nets to find out the possible cause of the few burnt phones and I've wondered if it was the USB-C issue, coupled with crappy aftermarket chargers and crappy aftermarket cables that are really causing the issue. My phone has barely been warm in the last 2 weeks or so even while playing some games.

Which makes me to believe only one factory made some faulty units and it seems to be Korean one. I also lean to believe World recall was more of PR gesture " we messed up, but we fixed it, so return it for full refund, or get replacement, whatever makes you happy", than necessity. I'm actually surprised Samsung went extra mile, at huge cost, to fix this, they didn't strike me before as so consumer oriented company. I like my N7 as much as I did before, it works great and until I get all data to make informed decision, I'll just be careful when charging, so in case something goes wrong (probably very unlikely), I won't burn house down, but I'm using phone all the time so would notice something wrong. 3c tools has recording option, ill run battery temp during fast charge, just to see how hot it gets, it gets warm to touch, but thats normal.

It is very likely that Samsung felt pressure from US providers and had to issue replacement program. Some European countries are not so lucky, for now at least. They halted sales but no clear what next: replacement, repair, software update?

I'm thinking of purchasing a Pixel 5a off of eBay, but I just started seeing all the (very large number of) threads on reddit about the BSOD/motherboard issue with the 5a. How widespread is this problem? Is it better to avoid this phone and get the 4a5g instead?

It's widespread enough that Google officially extended the warranty from 1 year to 2 (https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/11833075?hl=en)
I don't know if it's a bad idea or not. I've been running the phone with the hope that it won't happen.
i´m using my 5a in Argentina from more than 1 year now, all ok, never any fail
I got mine in November 2021. Still using it. I'd be more concerned about getting one off of eBay myself.

Yeah, I saw that they extended the warranty. It doesn't seem like a great sign. Although I suppose it's possible Google did that because of the level of complaining, rather than because the problem is greater with the 5a than other pixels (there also are some, though far fewer, reports of the 4a5g and 5 suddenly bricking themselves).
I sort of wish I'd never looked at reddit. I also wish there were good statistics on the actual failure rate. But now I think I may always be wondering if it will just suddenly fail one day.

Quite a few people say it happens around the 14/month mark. Some people say they got more than one replacement from Google and they all failed. It's a little crazy if you look at reddit. If you search on simply "5a" in the pixel reddits, literally just about every post is about the phone suddenly dying. It is interesting that you don't see that here on xda so much (although the reddit threads are much more active, with many more people).

I hear you. But I'm pretty careful about who I buy from on ebay and ask lots of questions first. So far I haven't had a problem (fingers crossed). I know people like Swappa. But Swappa seems to have been completely taken over by businesses, selling the same type of refurbished/open box inventory as you see on ebay. And you can't ask businesses questions on Swappa, which I just find bizarre.
I just picked mine up after second mothboard replacement. First mobo replacement has radio issue. My wife's just died too. We bought exact same time from google store unlocked. Glad to hear about the warranty extension.
Welp, mine just died yesterday. Got the RMA approved by Google. Pretty sad, I only used my Pixel 5a for a few months before switching to other devices. Then I switched back to it. Probably had less than 6 months total power on time.
I was using the phone and screen went black. At first you could tell it was still on, like it would still vibrate. Then it just died and won't power on. Battery was at ~68% and trying numerous chargers/cables did nothing.
Google also gave me a single use 20% off coupon towards Pixel 6a, 7 and 7 Pro. If they were still on sale for $100 - $150 off it would've been a no brainer for me, but they went back to full price and decreased the trade in value on the 5a.
I'm going to dump this phone as soon as I get it back. I've never had a phone die like this.

Sorry to hear that, but thanks for the feedback. Interestingly, it seems from reddit that this doesn't really happen with the 4a5g or regular 5 (though failures are not entirely unheard-of with those phones). I wonder if that's really true and why that would be considering how similar the three phones are?

Wow, that's crazy that your's died three days after you replied to this thread. Sorry to hear that. It's such a bummer, because the 5a really seems like the best of the 4a5g/5/5a trio. Especially the giant battery is nice.
The way your phone failed, from reading a lot of posts on reddit, sounds exactly like what people have been experiencing: screen goes black, you can interact with it even though you can't see anything, and then it completely won't power on. Some people seem to only have the black screen issue, others it just goes straight to dead and won't power on, it's interesting that you went through both in quick succession.
I would get the 6a, even though I don't like the size (the new phones are so large and chunky) and a hate the visor, except the 6a/6/6pro/7/7pro are all notorious for their poor signal/recpetion issues. The modem in the Samsung exynos chipset that Google uses as the base for Tensor is just crap. Tons of people say they get the worst reception they've ever gotten on any phone, with the 6a/6/6pro/7/7pro.
The rumor is that the 7a will have a Qualcomm modem, which says a lot that Google is only going to use exynos for the CPU and not the entire chipset, modem included, as is normally done in cell phone designs. I wonder if that will make sticking to five years of updates hard, since Qualcomm sucks so much at providing driver updates. Anyway, I would hold out for the 7a and see if the rumors are true, before getting another Pixel device.
I'm sort of trying to find a phone that can tide me over until the Pixel 8, which hopefully will have a better design, smaller, thinner, drop the visor. Probably I'll pick up a 4a5g, since it seems like the 5a BSOD issues are definitely real. I like the 5 better, sizewise, but the under screen earpiece is just too poor quality; it's really a shame Google went for that gimmick on the 5.
I bought mine off eBay barely a month ago and so far I have no issues. Is there anything I should look for? I've never heard of this BSOD issue.

I don't think there's any way to tell if you will have the issue or not. Reports are that after typically about a year the phone will just suddenly stop working, wih a black screen, like Dopamin3 describes above. It's a problem with the motherboard failing. If you want to get a sense of it, search for Pixel 5a in the r/GooglePixel reddit. Most recent posts about the Pixel 5a concern this. It seems to clearly be a problem with this phone model in particular, that the similar 4a5g and 5 don't have (or it is much less common). What I can't tell is, okay yes, this happens to a lot of Pixel 5a phones, and so there are a lot or reports online, but what precent? How likely is it? On the other hand, it happens enough that Google extended the warranty on this phone for an extra year, as Dopamin3 points out above.
Mine just died. Going through the process of having to send it in. Wish me luck.

Problem just happened to me, 16 months owned. I'd say stay away, not only because of the mobo problem but honestly, the phone isn't all that great anyway. It's pretty slow. And I don't know if this is related to the mobo issue but there are times when I would screen press an icon 4-7 times before it responded.

Phone went black on me about 4 days ago. It took about an hour but I was able to get it started again. Plugged it in to recharge overnight and in the morning, found it had shutdown again. Was able to reboot immediately, this time. It worked for 2 more days and then yesterday, while on a hike, it died and has not come back since then.
It's almost funny how they tell you to backup the phone and then erase it before sending it in. Hard to do when you can't get the phone to turn on!
I spoke to one of the uBreakiFix stores here in Silicon Valley and the guy told me that he doesn't have any mobo's in stock and that they are difficult to get. If I brought the phone to him, he has 5 or 6 people ahead of me and he is only allowed (by Google? or store management?) to order one 5a mobo at a time.. So I am sending mine into Google for repair.
I had been thinking of trading this phone in back in Dec for a Pixel 7, when they had those good offers. It would have cost me $150 for the P7 with the trade in then. Wish I had done that now!
@joe99joe Sorry to hear your phone died. The way you were able to get your phone to come back a couple times, I wonder if you have a battery issue, rather than it being the motherboard. It sounds a little like how I experienced a bad battery replacement in an OG Pixel. Anyway, good luck, whatever you do.
I ended up getting a Pixel 4a5g. It doesn't have anywhere near the kind of reports of dying on people as the 5a. I'm hoping it will be good for a couple years and then maybe I'll get a Pixel 8a or 9 or something. I'm still waiting for Google to sort out their low quality modem issues in the Pixel 6 and 7 series, causing really bad signal/reception.

No, it was power. I sent it to Google on Monday, Arrived Tuesday and was confirmed power problem. They are working on repairing it now and should have it back in a few days. No charge, no postage fees. Sometimes Google does good. Meanwhile, I am using my od Pixel 3XL, which truth be told, is a better phone than the 5a. It's lighter, speedier but the battery is dying and the screen is cracked.
This happened on my 5a. No signs of life. Since I needed a backup phone for my Xperia, I'm gonna get the Nothing Phone 1 today.

I would just get the 4a honestly I took mine to ubreak today and they replaced the screen a bunch of times then told me there was nothing else they could do even though the receptionist told me it's Google's policy that they have to fix any phone they open. I contacted live chat and they told me to send it to them and it would still be covered even though it said my warranty expired in October.
I cannot believe it's happened to me again (first was august last year). i should've traded it in for a pixel 7 when i had the chance, although idk about using pixels anymore. this is ridiculous. last time it looked like they installed a better display, because this one looks free of scratches without using a screen protector. but i wish they knew why this happens. also looks like they allow an extended warranty for this kind of damage. they should honestly at least upgrade me to a 6a.
For those who have experienced this, how heavily do you use your phone? Like how often do you have to recharge, and do you run things where it heats up much? I am wondering if the typical failure is some problem with thermal cycling and fractures, or flash degradation. I assume its not just the battery/power supply if they have to replace the MB to fix it.
I bought mine direct from Google back in Aug 2021, so have been using it about 20 months. But I am a light user and typically get 7-10 days on a charge... I was originally assuming the hardware would last longer than Google is going to support the firmware.
k, so i'm really p*ssed off right now. the inspection came back saying audio problems that would cost $99 to repair. got nowhere in chat, so i called. she said there was a speaker problem and a volume button problem (they would have had to occur concurrently with the main problem, cause i would have definitely noticed em) no mention of the display or power issue. how? when i sent it in, the display would simply not work. i tried re-flashing stock firmware using google chrome's flash tools, and it would fail at booting into fastboot. i could tell the phone was on, though, because i felt the vibration and the usb connect sound on the laptop. so how was there no mention of those problems? i'm not sure if i should just assume that the phone's display is working. she would only say that the phone powers up properly and there was no mention of a display problem. the language seems too vague, and knowing full well what happened this time *and* how it's exactly what happened last time, i'm skeptical. how last time they replaced the motherboard, but this time, there's not even a mention of a display or power issue. and when i asked what the trade-in value would be if i forgo the repairs, she said $25. if it powers on and is free of scratches, it should be the normal value. should i just take my chances on getting it back without repairs and take the trade-in value, whatever it'll be, for the 7a?
edit: i see the trade-in value is $25. idk why it went down so much, but i'm sure it'll go back up for 7a deals
