(Question) About rooting Nokia 8 (Locked Bootloader) - Nokia 8 Questions & Answers

So, I would like to ask some questions. Since we know that HMD Nokia hasn't given us any news about unlocking bootloader which gives me bit impatient. I was wondering if it is actually possible to achieve ROOT without unlocking bootloader.
I dont really care with Custom recovery TWRP for a while and unlocking bootloader. Seeing how many apps in Play store or to unlock full potential of the phone requires root, it is like as if your phone is restricted or limited. Backup is essential for me and I frequently use Titanium backup.
I tried using Framaroot, King root, Kingo root and none of them worked. Based on the thread in this below, someone managed to successfully root Nokia 8 but it's a prototype from what I saw. I am using Nokia 8 non-prototype one. Is it possible to do it?

https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-8/development/question-nokia-8-partitions-t3682617
It has been 6 months since the release (CMIIW), the phone is still not unlockable which makes me sad that I regretted ever buying this phone. I was wishing that people in the community or someone out there can manage to hack + mod the phone with root like Sony Xperia XZ Premium. Been waiting for it.
So back to summary, is it possible to root with locked bootloader?

For now, it is not possible. Sadly. We just have to wait for nokia to make unlocking bootloader possible or someone to figure some way to bypass security bs and get root.

This might be a solution

What is the Nexus One Warranty worth?

I am an Android Developer, but so far I've avoided rooting my phone or trying custom kernels, but lately I get the feeling I could learn so much more by really getting behind the curtain so to speak. I keep reading that if you root the phone you may void your warranty and no longer get over the air updates.
I'm on AT&T an paid full price for my Nexus One. I also got the phone engraved so I'm wondering what value if any the warranty actually has. Is it worth mucking around with custom kernels on the Nexus one, or should I get a cheaper dev phone like the G1 ?
Looking forward to hearing advice from other developers and what you've learned versus the risks involved.
Oh, Do you still get OTA updates as well?
I'm interested in hearing from people who decided the warranty was or was not work the risk. Looks pretty easy from what I can see.
Thanks all.
Just root it without unlocking the bootloader and you're good to go

^this
root is fun and even better you can keep your warranty
Does using the technique of not unlocking the bootloader also mean you can run custom ROMs and/or recoveries? Or just gain root access to the stock ROM?

You CAN root your Nexus One without losing your warrenty.
I had my bootloader Unlocked, then i got a issue with mounting SD cards.
I sent the phone to HTC Repair center and just got it back today with the issues gone and Bootloader locked
Unlocking your Nexus One bootloader does void your warrenty with HTC, but if you experience hardware issues, they dont care if you unlocked your bootloader !!
By unlocking your Bootloader you can put whatever ROM on your phone you like, doesn't have to be stock
About the OTA's.
Yes you will get them if you run Stock ROM's.
You will not be able to install them however since you are not using a stock recovery image.
Wow, didn't know they didn't care about unlocked bootloader as long as your problem is in hardware. My GPS doesn't work at all and I'd like to send in my phone for repairs but the bootloader is unlocked. How long did it take for you to get your phone back?

I sent my phone from Denmark to UK, it took 1½ week quite fast
Can you point me to a link with instructions on how to do this?
I've found a few videos and articles that say this can be done, but reading to the end they all say seem to be closed or say not to do it.
Is it still possible to root the phone without unlocking the bootloader? I've searched google, but keep coming up with dead ends.

[Q] unlock BL or not to root?

Im not sure what the advantages is to unlock the bootloader then obtain root, now as there is a way to root without unlocking bootloader..
can anybody elaborate?? obvious advantage is that sony cant disclaim warranty issues with a locked bootloader.
i would also like to know this

So read under android development
At a guess unlocked boot loader will allow installation of custom roms
Root will allow running software that requires root like root explorer

Are there any ROMs worth installing yet? I feel like its a lot of bloatware that I dont need are installed with it so it would be nice to clean it
i think everybody that even visits xda know what root is, but unlocking BL vs locked prior to root?
if it`s only the custom roms that cant be installed I`m keeping mine locked and just gonna root. im quite happy with the stock rom.

You can install stock based ROMs with a locked bootloader, as long as you stick to Sony's kernel.

Are there any risks rooting the P20 Pro?

As i am coming from Samsung, i want to know if there is any risk of loosing functions that are protected???
With sony, it were some camera functions i lost when i rooted it, on my note 3 it was the efuse etc...
So is there anything i have to worry about?

Rooting itself does nothing that you mentioned.
Using a firmware other than the one intended or flashing outside of the natural progression which was intended is what breaks those things
Samsung- efuse chip is triggered when you use Odin, not rooting.
With Sony when I had a Z1 it was using a non standard ROM or: Cm or aosp which meant the standard savers didn't work as it wasn't ported unless they really tightened up their DRM.
In this regard its the same, but the camera has already been ported, its in the ROM section of this forum, so no worry there, I don't know if there is an efuse chip on the Huawei but I do know they're funny about bootloaders being unlocked and further modifying so there may be a way for them to know and they'll probably blame any issues as a result of that regardless of what it is if they can prove it.
That being said there are reports of users who've totally bricked their phones and already have replacements so I would say it depends.
With unlocking the bootloader and modifying your phone against the advice of OEM's always carries a risk, so it's up to you if you continue.
Personally I'll do what I want with my phone, by buying it it's my choice and I'll do what I want.

No, first of All you need to do is unlock the bootloader.
I came also from Samsung, i unlocked my P20 pro and then i rooted. And i had no impairment.
Regards
Okay, thanks for your answers. So ill root mine too, got my bootloader unlock code from huawei.
I suppose you loose warranty the moment you use the bootloader code. P.s. how do you request a code?
Thx

Check out guides on this forum. There are quite a few places that explain how to do it.
For example a thread has all info: [GUIDE] - How to root debrand and/or remove Retail mode for P20pro CLT-L29
Can't post any links yet gotta get through my first 10 posts.

ota updates while rooted

Hello!
I unlocked and rooted my p20 pro with magisk. I have the CLT-L04. I was wondering if someone could help me figure out where to get the updated ota files and how to flash them with fastboot. I have done some reading although it is unclear.
Also unsure if it's worth keeping my phone unlocked since Huawei won't be providing codes in four days.
Best regards
Download firmware here:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teammt.gmanrainy.huaweifirmwarefinder
And flash via hurupdater
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279
And even you relock your BL, you can use the same code unlock it again.
Great thank you that worked. I can't seem to find the code I used to unlock my bootloader, does it need to be the same? (Not planning on relocking, just curious)
Also my live wallpapers have now disappeared? I would appreciate if anyone have the theme files.
Cheers

Hi there bro! Noticed that you might be from Manila, too. I am also using a Huawei P20 Pro and on the verge of rooting. Been using Samsung mobiles for the past 4 years and have rooted all of them. Got the P20 Pro 3 months ago and somehow I cannot go on not having it rooted hehe.
Here are some notes:
1. I got the unlock code for the bootloader 2 days before Huawei stopped giving them out last month.
2. I have downloaded the TWRP (praetorian version)
3. Got Magisk v16.0
4. ADB and fastboot ready for use on mac.
A couple of questions:
1. Is it a good time to root now?
2. Why do some unlock/relock their bootloader??
Looking forward to your pieces of advice. Thanks in advance!
Cheers!

Hi,
to answer your questions:
1. Rooting is a personal preference. IF you're rooting to flash customs, there's no really available custom ROMs for this device at the moment. IF you need apps that needs root access and don't care about warranty, then root.
2. Not sure about his one. I don't see any benefit of locking BL aside from the disabling of the annoying "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted" warning when booting. Maybe claiming for warranty....

By the way, do I need to download newer tools for rooting or I have all the things I need?

Root honor 9n? A mystery yet to be solved by magisk

I bought honor 9n but can find anu root method. Pls if presnt im simple steps,
You first have to unlock your bootloader, but Huawei is no longer giving those unlock codes out
Sent from my H1611 using Tapatalk
Honor/Huawei completely locked their botloader and it is impossible to root or tweak them.
Depending on which huawei devices and which firmware, you can still be able to unlock, for now, using alternative paying service.

Even if he pays, it won't be of much use because in their latest update, they patched the kernel in a way so that we can't root their phones anymore even if the bootloader is unlocked.

yes, this is true.
i'm on Nova 2s, same thing happen on me after i flash latest upate (Patch01), magisk is not working.
although when i check, my bootloader is still unlocked, that is a small good news.
when i check and compare older and latest kernel.img and ramdisk.img, they've made a couple changes in them, maybe seniors will find out how to workaround this and we will have root again!
